Warlord had so much potential, they should've been huge after "Deliver Us" and Cauldron Born's albums are all excellent. The USA came up with some awesome trad metal bands over the years.
Medieval Steel, Brocas Helm, Exxplorer, Tyrant, Chastain, Riot, Vicious Rumors, Jag Panzer, Virgin Steele, early Fates Warning and the mighty Cirith Ungol. Also Nasty Savage's S/T album and the first albums from Metal Church and Armored Saint were wicked. I liked how they mixed a bit of thrash and doom in with the power and trad.

I grabbed a bootleg copy of Evil's Message on CD. Hoooooly SHIT this thing smokes! Son of the Bitch is as good a heavy metal song as you're gonna hear. Everything is sharp as fuck and they keep hammering you with that relentless speed.

I can't believe how much a song called Take Good Care of Your Balls rules. 1984 really was a magical time.

Just listened to it and was loving the intro section then the vocals kicked in and that's where it all went downhill for me. The music kicks ass and sounds great but the lyrics and vocal lines were sub-par. Not a bad first effort for the band, would've been interesting to hear what they could've come up with after this.
Got anymore obscure '80's recommendations?

"Take Good Care (Of Your Balls)", "Rent a Girl" and "Kill Your Woman in Bed". Classic stuff. Got a chuckle out of me. That Evil logo was pretty darn good tho!

Wow if Evil's vocals are sub-par to you, you're not going to have much luck with obscure 80s metal.

Indeed! This is pretty great. I get some serious Tank vibes from the chorus riff of Bad Ideas.

I'm looking for something similar to The Dying Race by Crows; accessible melodic metal with both a speed and proggy twist if that makes any sense.

Been listening to a bunch of Iron Savior recently, and while everyone seems to like Unification best, holy shit is Dark Assault solid, or what? I think it's easily my favorite of the bunch. It doesn't really get hung up on Gamma Ray-isms; it's like the best bits of their debut (Atlantis Falling, title track, Assailant) but they keep it up for the whole album.

Talking about Toxik, "In God" and "Black and White" could also fit. Almost all the album "Think This" could actually, but "In God" has the best solo I've ever heard.

As incredible as John Arch still sounds, I wonder what he was thinking when he decided to sing on this thing...

Can anyone recommend me black/heavy metal or blackened heavy metal in the vein of Vaultwraith, Demontage & Tulsadoom? Preferably with both extreme and clean vocals. Thanks!

New track from Storrsson, and it kills.

From his facebook:

Quote:
Chucked this together over the past couple of days. Still working on the Celtic album, needed a little break. Speed/thrash does the trick. Very much inspired by Frost and Fire London - great gig, great crowd, pure metal madness!

Depending on how people receive this, we might take this direction for the next Storrsson album (after the Celtic one's out). Other possible avenues are Black Metal, Black/Death, or old school Heavy Metal - samples of each will be uploaded soon (I'm giving you all a vote!).

There'll be a promo track for the Celtic album out next week as well - we're almost ready to release!

Hope you're all doing well.

Over and out!

I'm really, really amped for the full-length. The 6 (now 7) tracks he's released so far have gotten a whole lot of plays from me over the past few months, and they haven't started to get old at all. Really solid stuff.

New Black Viper! It's great as expected.

A reminder:
Guitars: Arild Torp (Nekromantheon guitarist)
Drums: Sadomancer of Deathhammer (main composer here)
Bass: Christoffer Braathen, Condor's bassist and vocalist.
Vocals: dude named Salvador Armijo, don't know him.

So basically, part of the Kolbotn /Fenriz brigade. This is not infernal thrash like their other bands, this is the speed metal vehicle. Their 2016 demo Storming with Vengeance (great combination of titles I find!) was my favorite of that year.

Are there any newer bands that have revisited the sound of Sacred Oath's debut ? I apologize if this has been asked before , but I didn't really have the patience to sift through all the results for Sacred Oath on this thread . :-D

NICE!!! I was hoping that demo wasn't a one-off. These guys are something special. Can't listen right this second but I'm gassed, thanks for the drop!

Quite accurate... It's tough since both albums don't have the same sound (or actually they aren't supposed to mean the same thing) but if you're searching for power metal with a very heavy and huge sound try Metalium (for instance with the song "Steel Avenger"), Wizard, Stormwarrior or Twisted Tower Dire in a slower aspect (try the album "Crest of the Martyrs").

I really wish Blaze (Japan) would get cracking on another full-length already. That kind of laid back, borderline hard rock stuff isn't normally my thing at all, but their debut has been a favorite of mine for years.

Agreed! Blaze had a special touch. I think it's the way they channel those 70s Scorpions moments. Have you heard their EP The Rock Dinosaur? It's more of the same killer stuff. I think the songs stand up to the debut.

Please help - black metal fan who has really fallen deep into Kamelot’s new ‘The Shadow Theory’ album and would love some good album recs along those lines… I’m a total power metal newbie, so nothing will be too obvious!

Disclaimer, I’m not into the cheesy overblown symphonic stuff like Rhapsody etc, but rather something with a darker, heavier and more modern edge a la Shadow Theory but still has those amazing vocals and catchy fist pumping choruses. Thank you so much.

Manacle and Traveler are both as good if not better than everyone said. 100% total killer shit. JP is a really special vocalist. And Manacle sounded extremely authentic in every way.

frostyj66:

You need (choice songs in links):

Symphony X (V, Paradise Lost, Odyssey, Divine Wings of Tragedy)
Brainstorm (Soul Temptation, Ambiguity, Metus Mortis)
other Kamelot albums (Epica would be my recommendation although the later albums are closer to their last one)
Might also wanna check out Myrath, who mix their stuff with eastern/arabian stuff
...and I'll throw a sample of the US Power scene from recent years: Vicious Rumors - Right of Devastation

Definitely going to delve into back catalogue of Kamelot, but I'm impressed with what I'm hearing from Brainstorm, Symphony X and especially Myrath who are intriguing. Vicious Rumors was too thrashy for me.

You the man Vic! Great recs, they definitely deliver the sound I was after, nice and thick guitar sound with killer vocals and melodies.

Satans Host "By The Hands Of The Devil", "Celebration", "Virgin Sails" and "Pre-dating God, Pt.1&2". A great blend of Power and Black Metal. One of the best bands around at the moment.

Mindflayers by Illegal Bodies has some very subtly integrated black metal influence in the riffing. The vocals are pure USPM majesty though. Really neat, weird little record.

Onto why I really came! Not sure how many of you use the bandcamp app but I recently found that Aragorn have their full 82/83 (unreleased?) album on there. You can spin the whole thing for free and it RULES SO TOUGH! An impeccable combination of whiny vocals, relentlessly energetic riffing, and sheer power.

Aragorn "Night Is Burning"! I want it, needs to be reissued on CD. That Illegal Bodies album is very cool indeed. I'm a big fan of Manilla Road, Cirith Ungol, Brocas Helm etc and the spirit is strong in this one. Great recs.
