Check out Bergtatt - Et Eeventyr i 5 Capitler and Nattens Madrigal. Each album was created by a band named Ulver. I think you might really like both releases. However, Nattens Madrigal is quite raw. :-D

There's also Walknut who basically sound like Hate Forest except much better than anything Hate Forest has done.

The similar artists tab has a lot of goods ones, I'm sure you know a lot of them already. For lesser known stuff I'd try:

Sentimen Beltza: I've mentioned this guy before, just noticed he has a new album coming out and it sounds more raw/aggressive than previous, but I'm excited. Not as "pretty" as Drudkh, but I think it has the same kind of atmosphere and feeling.

Folkvang: Atmospheric Black and Six Stories Without Keys are criminally unknown:

Fluisteraars: Luwte and Dromers are both utterly top tier albums.

I'm looking for blackened doom similar to Argentum's Ad Interitum Funebrarum. Thanks in advance.

I am looking for something similar to Darkestrah meets Hellenic black metal. So, something epic and atmospheric with folk influences, but preferably not straight-up pagan/folk. Macabre Omen is probably the closest band which comes to mind. I am also aware of Tatir and Kawir. Outside of the Greek scene, Ohen is a close example of what I want. Really anything in that general area is of interest.

Also, is there any distributor in North America from which one can purchase Hellenic black metal albums of lesser-known bands in the scene?

Anyone know more "kvlt"/raw mixing of black metal/death metal and shoegaze-ish stuff? I've been listening to Tideless and Tides of Emptiness and I'm curious if there's more out there that sounds like these bands.

Anybody got good recommendations for bands that sound somewhat like Negative Plane and/or Funereal Presence?
I did obviously check the similar artist section, something more to check out would be great.

I love it when bands sing in their native language. Could anyone recommend black metal albums that are not in one of the "more common" languages? I suppose you could argue what those constitute, but I guess I'd say anything not in English, Norwegian, Swedish, German, or French.

Off the top of my head, I think all I have is two albums in Portuguese, one in Chinese, one in Romanian, one in Korean, a few Ukrainian (Drudkh), but that's about it.

ungod - in numele metalului est-european is in romanian too (they had a romanian native as a guest vocalist for this one). some arkona lyrics are in polish. also, check out xerion, whose lyrics are in galician, a spanish variety. nocturnal misantropia is an amazing album.
also, nazgul from italy play symphonic BM with latin lyrics, but I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for.

edit: how could I forget this absolute classic: master's hammer's jilemnicky okultista is in czech, and their newer albums as well I think.

Check out Brünndl then, Pagan Black Metal in the Zimbrian tongue, basically a variation of Bavarian that's only spoken in a tiny corner of north-western italy.

Some great bands that sing in Icelandic:

Misþyrming
Carpe Noctem
Naðra
Auðn

Less awesome, but with Icelandic lyrics, and still worth hearing:
Mannveira

Two of the best italian BM bands sing in their mother tongue: Spite Extreme Wing and Tenebrae in Perpetuum. The first is unique kind of warm black metal and the second is a more traditional Darkthrone influenced one

Not that easy. Teloch's guitar style is very much his own, combined with the tight, hard drumming and Cpt's commanding vocals, they sound like not much else. I guess Svart Crown can have a similar feel, although they're more in that desolate death metal style, and the Polish band Outre might have a similar melodic quirkiness, combined with excellent instrumental prowess and intensity. Both bands feel less straight-forward than Nidingr, but then, few things are as straight-forward as Nordic black metal. :D

Anyone know of any BM bands that touch on similar musical themes that Martyrdod do but in a black metal context rather than crust/dbeat? Couple examples:

Martyrdod - Elddop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50Ajun4tKUE

Martyrdod - Mer Skada Än Nytta: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHtEoPdHRC4

Can anyone kind of just give me a basic starter pack of good black metal bands (excluding Behemoth and the oh-so-obligatory Penis Metal EP from Hades Archer)? I've never really taken a minute to listen to the genre or find enough of the genre to appreciate or like, and it's honestly something I want to do more of.

Pretty much taking any and all suggestions. Whether they're PMs or straightforward replies is fine, I just want something to listen to from the genre.

^Those are good, I love seeing Thy Primordial on that list ;) There's always the obvious Norwegian bands everyone usually starts with (Burzum, Darkthrone, Immortal, Mayhem, etc) For Marduk I still think Opus Nocturne is their most classic.

Some others:
Urgehal - Goatcraft Torment

Judas Iscariot - To Embrace the Corpses Bleeding (his last, but my favorite album)

These 3 Finnish bands are kind of a package deal:
Horna - first demo "Hiidentorni" and their albums "Envaatnags Eflos Solf Esgantaavne" and "Sanojesi äärelle"

Behexen - "By the Blessing" "From the Devil's Chalice" "Poisonous Path" Horna/Behexen Split

Sargeist - All the albums

I'll just throw in some of the later black metal stuff I've enjoyed in particular. The classics are well-liked for a reason, but the genre has become more refined, focused and technically advanced as well, so it would be a huge mistake to miss the later developments in black metal:

Svartidauði - Sterile Seeds (Flesh Cathedral, 2012)

VI - Par le jugement causé par ses poisons (De Praestigiis Angelorum, 2015)

Deathspell Omega - Devouring Famine (Paracletus, 2010)

Nidingr - Greatest of Deceivers (Greatest of Deceivers, 2012)

Der Weg Einer Freiheit - Repulsion (Stellar, 2012)

Baptism - Satananda (Devil's Fire, 2015)

Devouring Star - Sanctified Decomposition (Through Lung and Heart, 2015)

Zhrine - Utopian Warfare (Unortheta, 2016)

This is the sort of stuff that should be listened to very loud. Have fun!

And as you can see from some of these videos, if this is the kind of stuff you enjoy, Season of Mist is a label you ought to take a good butcher's at. Finland, France, Norway and Iceland have some of the best bands and scenes currently, in my opinion, with some odd amazing bands coming from countries like Germany, Sweden, Poland, and even Portugal and Spain.

What are some more melodic Gnaw Their Tongues releases/songs? Something like Blood Drenched Altars is what I'm aiming for. I realise more or less all of GTT's output has orchestration in it, but there's something about songs like these that feel less like horror movie soundtracks but rather like something more hauntingly beautiful altogether.

Blood Drenched Altars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtFSsOeVGY4

In other words, just give me beautiful GTT songs.

So today I was yet again floored by the majesty of Blut Aus Nord's Memoria Vetusta II: Dialogue with the Stars. I know a lot of black metal which is beautifully melancholic, but this album doesn't even need much sadness to get its beauty across. It just gets across sheer wonder at the universe, and is obviously packed full of fantastic and interesting guitar work.

Hope that makes sense! Any other albums remind you of this masterpiece? (Yes, I have part III too!)

A good black metal starter pack would include The True Werwolf, Tjolgtjar, and Zarach 'Baal' Tharagh.

Yup, obvious troll is obvious.

I actually think just listening to all the bands Shatraug is in or has been a part of makes for a solid black metal "starter pack." It's all remarkably consistent in quality, and one would get exposure to a bunch of different styles of black metal.

That, or that infamous "antifa against black metal" list that was posted somewhere on this forum actually makes for a pretty solid starter pack for black metal. I would unironically recommend that list to someone looking to get into genre.
