Megadeth- Dystopia

I can't explain why, but it's pretty strange to see Megadeth put out a more proper thrash album recently than Kreator did.

Brainstorm - Jeanne Boulet (1764)

Honestly not that impressed with this yet... I liked the advance singles and the first song ruled, but everything else is sounding OK at best and the vocals seem to be getting weak.

edit: yeah, eh, it's uninspired. Lot of moments that just remind me of their better albums.

Cradle of Filth - The Twisted Nails of Faith

Oh my God, the whole song is great, but those last few minutes is a universe in its own right. The synth and the riffs and Dani's vocals just send shivers down my spine. One of their greatest moment of songwriting.

Sodom - Little Boy

I've been binge watching the documentary series, "The Vietnam War" recently and this inspired me to revisit Sodom's Vietnam War-themed album, 'M-16'. This is also some of Sodom's finest and thrashiest work to date.

Anatomia - Necrotic Incision

I really dig the Autopsy-styled death/doom of Anatomia and their fellow Japanese Coffins. It's like a slow, lumbering monster that's creeping up on you.

Type O Negative - White Slavery

I kinda feel like listening to "World Coming Down" when my anxiety's been acting up is a bad idea, but I dunno - it's cathartic in a way.

Running Wild- Pile of Skulls

Damn, if that wacky vocal effect on Rolf's vocal wasn't there and they sounded like they did on Blazon Stone, this would be the greatest Running Wild album ever.

Apparently the original lineup of Arch Enemy reformed in 2016 and subsequently went on a tour performing only their first three albums? I had no idea until this morning!

It's on DVD, so I've been listening through it all. I'm starting to understand why Johan Liiva was originally sacked, but he's not necessarily bad. Honestly leagues above newer Arch Enemy.

Not a bad final record for Jack Owens. Some killer riffage and songwriting on this one.

Black Sabbath- A Hard Road

This riff is what Walk should have been. At least in rhythm.

Apocalyptic Raids - The Third Storm

Amazing Hellhammer worship hailing from Brasil. Just picked up the guitar and been doing a few Hellhammer songs, so got in the mood for this kind of stuff.

Opeth - Demon Of The Fall

Hard to hear it now with fresh ears after hundreds (maybe thousands?) of plays and years gone by. I think it's still one of the most evil, menacing songs ever made. I was Genuinely unnerved upon hearing it the first time. Mikael's vocal delivery is absolutely insane. And that main riff is downright demonic. I always love showing this one to people that have never heard Opeth (and some that have never heard much metal past Metallica / Ozzy).

I am watching this now, thanks for posting this. I knew they were doing this a few years back, but I never got around to hearing it. Sounds killer! Personally, I don't know why they got rid of Johan. His voice is better, his stage presence is much better and more intense. Overall he's just way more authentic than either of the women they have had. Replace Chris with Jeff, and give him free reign to write, and you've got one hell of a band.

Again. God these guys are so good, well used to. Their newest album was such a boring slog to listen to.

Dynazty - Firesign

This is actually fucking killer. It's interesting to see a band that appears at first blush to be so generic, taking all those parts of the sound and actually making them a Dynazty unique sound. Powerful, tight writing and a lot of bombast and style.

Xenoblight - Transcendence

A great up-coming technical death/thrash band from Denmark who won the Danish WOA-battle and got a 4th place at Wacken. Very, very good band!!

Ironflame - Tales of Splendor and Sorrow

Holy crap this is nothing short of spectacular. I would say even better than their debut. At first Visigoth was sitting at the top for being my favorite 2018 trad metal release, this one (and maybe the Black Viper album) might dethrone Conqueror's Oath.

I know a lot of people dislike this album, or say its disappointing compared to their catalog at this time. I really like this album though.

Hammerfall - Dreamland

Legacy of Kings is one kickass album full of upbeat songs that'll make you pump your fists and sing along to the choruses. This song is prime example.
