Winterfylleth - A Valley Thick With Oaks

Love the album 'The Mercian Sphere', and love the rawness of their sound - metal or folk, it sounds 'real', rather than somehow artificial.

Rotten Sound: CURSED Blunt force trauma. I've never felt this was as good as 'EXIT' or 'MURDERWORKS', but it's grown on me over time

Very good song. I need to listen to this again - been too long!

Slægt - I Smell Blood.

Amazing melodic exteme metal from Denmark. Got this blackend thrashy heavy metal sound that not many bands do. New album The Wheel will be released tomorrow, and I will be up front at the release show!!

The Pillows - That's a Wonderful World

Aside from the incredible stuff used for FLCL, it's amazing how many excellent songs they've put out over the years...well, since 1997 in any case. Those first couple albums were a little rough.

Tribulation - Wanderer in the Outer Darkness

Something about that disco breakdown just amuses the hell out of me.

Wytch Hazel - "Save My Life"

Probably the most Thin Lizzy-esque guitar harmony I have heard not from Lizzy themselves. The light touch to the rhythm section and slight folksy vibe really let the heaviness of twin guitar shine through. Awesome!

Holy Moses - Dear Little Friend

Possibly the best Thrash I have heard recently. It is nice, raw and consistent... plus very rock n roll!

Light Bearer - Beautiful is this Burden

On a bit of an atmospheric post-metal kick lately, this album definitely provides in this department. Shame the band is split up.

Going through some shit these days. Listening to Pink Floyd is a cathartic experience.

Destroyer 666 - Violence is Golden

This is pretty rockin' track. The searing guitar solos contribute a lot to the overall attitude of this song.

Manilla Road - Whitechapel

Funny how over the years I've been listening to less and less metal, but this band, as metal as any that ever existed, have gone from annoying me to fascinating me. Normally I don't go in for remixes/remasters of old albums but whoever is doing the old MR catalogue is doing a good job with them. I like how the Out of the Abyss remaster backs the guitar off a bit to augment the bass, giving the riffs a more percussive attack. Sort of but not quite like an early '90s groove production, but of course with better riffs.

Much better riffs. Mark Shelton was one of a kind. "It's ripping time!" indeed.

Revocation - Vanitas

One of the heaviest and darkest tracks they've ever written. Loving the evil, outlandish vibe from this song.

Stratovarius - The Hands of Time

Of the albums Timo Tolkki both sang and played guitar on, "Twilight Time" is probably my favorite. A big step up from the debut in terms of both his songwriting and singing.

Striker - The Iron Never Lies

Saw these guys for the second time on Monday and they're really a brilliant band. Their new album is another excellent release, and they've built a hell of a catalogue. Amazingly, they're better live than on record.

Fear Factory - Powershifter

A standout track from Mechanize. The hallmarks of a typically great Fear Factory song are here: Burton C. Bell's harsh/clean vocals, the stop-start riffing of Dino and the machine-like precision and tempo.
