Hi metalheads

When I woke up yesterday, I could see in my twitter account that my beloved band Iron Maiden are going to release his studio albums...again, now in digipak. So...why? I know money matters; but besides the "cute" package, talking about music, there´s nothing new. No enhanced? No bonus songs? No bonus disc? Well there´s a toy...

You can find them in almost any music store...

What do you think?

Thanks

They appear to be releasing some recent remasters as the 'canon' commercially available recordings in all formats. For any other band I'd assume that they were reclaiming control of their back-catalogue or something similar (see: Saxon), but I don't imagine that Maiden are in that position ?

It also seems to harmonise the packaging design available across the entire discography, something that I know annoys the real collector nerds (80's stuff rereleases having a design of Eddie on the spine, modern stuff having the album name / band name basic treatment).

https://ironmaiden.com/news/article/the-studio-collection-remastered

Does anyone know if these remasters offer anything in terms of quality ?
(eg: versus my Somewhere in Time which is the 1998 rerelease with the videos etc., or my Fear of the Dark which is the original press)

The patch really looks crap, you can buy a lot better looking iron maiden patches from nuclearblast

what the hell is that patch?

I get it, collectors will buy it, kinda shitty thing to do to your fans though. Any idea on how comfortable the life of an Iron Maiden member is? Other than Bruce, dude seems well off.

I can't blame them dude. We all need some fucking money and if you could make as much as them releasing digipacks, you would be a literal idiot not too.

the Piece of Mind CD art is exactly the same as the 98 remaster. :(

Did a little googling and found some of the members' net worths and they goeth thusly...

Bruce Dickinson: $115 million
Steve Harris: $30 million
Adrian Smith: $40 million
Dave Murray: $15 million
Nicko McBrain: $30 million

I couldn't really find anything on Janick Gers or Paul Di'Anno. I guess Blaze Bayley is estimated at a little over $1 million so there's that.

How the hell is Adrian Smith worth more than the guy who's the leader of the band and has written 95% of the bands songs including most of the hits?

Yeah that makes no sense. Nicko has the fewest writing credits of any of them yet is worth as much as Harris? How is Bruce worth that much more than the rest of them?

And if you don't want a product don't buy it. I don't want any remasters yet if people do I hope they are happy with it and get their monies worth.

Bruce has a lot more sources of income than "just" Maiden. He owns a big airplane maintenance and training business and has probably invested in more, has been a radio host, he was a pilot, now the book, the Beer (who knows how the profits are split - I see Bruce promoting it all the time). I guess Adrian could have invested successfully as well.

Maybe Steve Harris spends all his money promoting his offspring's shitty bands! :P

And maybe those net worth figures are more guesswork than actual estimations?

They are guesswork and yes outside income sources are a big factor. Didn't know Bruce was doing all that stuff, good for him.

The net worth numbers for any celebrity/entertainer found on search engines are notoriously bogus.

Bruce Dickinson is a machine, I have no idea how he manages to do all of this shit without collapsing or having a breakdown.

Basically the metal version of Elon Musk, except he doesn't call people pedophiles :P.

Also, from what I understand, the airline business is tough to turn a profit in (maybe it's not as hard in airplane maintenance as in owning airline companies, and hell maybe that's just an old wives' tale), so that seems to make it even more impressive.

I wish they were reissuing Dance of Death with better artwork. I'd actually buy it.

As stupid as this sounds, I just can't bring myself to buy it because I absolutely hate the cover.

^It is indeed a pretty awful cover. Maybe it's just because it came out when I was in high school, soon after I discovered Maiden and is thus pretty nostalgic for me... but Dance Of Death is one of my favorite albums of theirs. It's got some fillers like all Maiden albums do, but its strong songs are especially great IMO. I definitely recommend picking it up and just putting a sticker over the cover if it'll get you listening to it. :)

Agree, Dance of Death is very good, much better than the albums that came after it. Still "amazed" by that cover. The ugliest thing ever. Don't usually buy multiple versions of albums, but with a better artwork I might make an exception.

Dance of Death is a swell record; if the cover bothers you so much (can't blame you) grab one of those sheets they use to censore artworks (like The Last Supper or Twilight of the Idols) and you're good to go ;)

Might do that. Not that big of a deal anyway. Just wondering, did they at any stage of creating that album think the cover was any good. Maybe those kind of graphics were the newest new back then, can't remember.

According to Dave Patchett, that wasn't even his final design and the band just thought that draft would be good enough to use. I think there's a really good idea in there. Part of me would like to see a traditionally painted variation but I'm pretty sure it'd just end up being a Cathedral cover art.

Same here, I may buy that box. Don't know what to do with the patch but I could gift that figure to my little brother

Yeah, in his book Dickinson says the DOD cover art is embarrassing and that it was not complete. He says Harris wanted it.

Looks cheap and like a typical cash in. Waste of an opportunity to release these albums individually in special editions like they deserve to be, with bonus tracks....b-sides, live sets, alternate mixes. Or even original mixes. As far as I can remember the 98 reissue of Somewhere in Time was a remix and sounds way less cool and totally 1986 than my LP copy.

I love a lot of what Harris has done, but honestly, that there seems to sum up so much more than just the cover art for Dance of Death.
