The Swedish band Void Commander has changed its style completely to psychedelic/blues/classic rock on their new release Void Commander. There are absolutely no metal riffs on the album, instead the sound is similar to artists like Cream or Jimi Hendrix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V297_Rye5jM

I couldn't find any samples for the band Leon, but their genre is listed as Dark Progressive Metal and their name change is listed as just Progressive Metal, so I don't think it would hurt to just lose the "dark" in the genre until a sample is found. Later known as April Ethereal (genre: Progressive Metal).

This is all I found for Ur Nord Germanisch; I don't know about the other albums, and there are quite a few, but this album is purely Ambient and should be included in the genre. Also, for the time being, I don't think it would hurt just to lose the dark tag and make it solely "Pagan Metal" until something new pops up.

Withered Garden is Black Metal with some melodic elements here and there. I cannot speak for the "Death Metal (later)" tag; I was unable to find any samples of their later stuff. I hate to assume stuff on this site, but they changed their name to Sightless and have a black/death tag. They appear to have stayed consistently blackened in some way, so maybe "Black Metal (maybe melodic) (early), Black/Death Metal (later) would not be a reach regarding the sound. Perhaps the lighter sounding "Blackened Death Metal" would even be better in this case since we simply don't know.

Vanguard is... interesting. Their current tag is Symphonic Gothic Metal (early), Dark/Gothic Metal (later); however, their sound does not really change over the years. I don't think they are Gothic Metal, for I feel was put simply because it's female vocals. It's somewhere between Melodic/"Heavy" and Symphonic metal with extreme metal screaming. I'd say just Symphonic Metal.

I cannot find any samples for The Dying, but they have a early/later tag while only having one small EP. For now, I think deleting the later tag should be fine.

Due to the generic band name by Metamorphosis and no albums to show on the archives, there's no way to find any samples on the web. Just removing dark from the long genre tag is probably fine.
Formerly, later known as Akallabeth (genre: Melodic Death/Heavy Metal)
* https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Me ... sis/116190

Hyra I'm afraid may just be a rock band that has no place on here; however, this is the only song I can find of them to clear the "dark" tag. It's just Indie/Alternative Rock. Their older stuff may actually be death metal, but I cannot find any other songs at this time. There's also the possibility that some of the albums on their page are from another band. Based on the artwork, "The Half World" is the only one that looks like a metal band; the other two look like something that would fit the indie image.

I'm curious as to why Metal Church and Anvil have power metal listed in their genres. I couldn't name a single album either has put out that display these traits. Metal Church should be labeled "Heavy/Thrash Metal". Anvil should be labeled simply "Heavy Metal", although if any additional genres were to be tagged, "Heavy/Speed Metal" would make more sense.

No. Metal Church and Anvil definitely should have power metal listed, they just aren't euro power metal but they're still power metal.

No way Enslaved's just Metal. ''In Times'' (2015), ''E'' (2017)- basically all their later era works- have a huge ammount of Progressive Rock elements. Clean vocals, synths, samples, clean guitar works, generally cleaner, more polished sound.

I recommend Progressive Black/Viking Metal/Rock, or something along those lines.

No, Enslaved is NOT rock and does not need it in their genre at all.

Their post-10's works have more than enough Prog Rock elements. If anyone bothers checking it, that'd be cool.

Even their reviews that got accepted here claim so.

Well they are Progressive Black/Viking Metal, sometimes including more progressive elements, sometimes less, sometimes more black sometimes more viking, but at it's core it's always metal.

I just wanted to segregate my Dark Metal list from other genre related issues. I removed these two from the greater DM list above.
Bonziepsycho wrote:
This is unrelated to the Dark Metal stuff, but I think Morlok Von Grimorog should be "Progressive/Heavy Metal." It's just prog metal now, but it pretty much sounds like progy King Diamond/Mercyful Fate.

Sorry, they deleted their YouTube and Bandcamp, for some reason, so these are the only samples I can provide.

Callan Vincent needs a before/after tag now. He released his EP Synth City under his new style and has been the same with three more EPs and a couple of singles. The genre should be Melodic/Progressive Metal (early), Electronic/Chillwave (later). I know this site doesn't dive deep into non-metal genres, but chillwave is a subgenre of synthwave and electro/dream pop. Think of it like a slower, dreamy synthwave/electronic with a "chill" feel to it. Also, he blends the style with various other electronic genres, like 2-step and drum & bass (not to a significant degree at all), so having it "electronic/chillwave" is the most accurate way to describe it.

https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Ca ... 3540408546
https://callanvincent.bandcamp.com/albu ... d-of-light

And just so you know I haven't made up this genre:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chillwave

Also, I don't want to clog the report queue, so I'll let this sit here until someone gets to it but:
Bonziepsycho wrote:
Deafened is also unique. The first album is Depressive Black Metal and the second album is Black/Stoner/Doom Metal, both of which make up the before/after tag currently. However, the third album is Ambient/Synthwave/Electronic. The genre should be condensed to something along the lines of Depressive Black/Stone/Doom Metal, Ambient/Electronic, or something like that.

https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/De ... 3540373701
https://deafeneddsbm.bandcamp.com/

I posted this and there's a typo in the genre, Stone instead of Stoner, and it seems to have accidentally been copied to the band's genre tag. Also, I still think that Electronic should be added to the end of the tag.

Liturgy's new album, that everyone apparently hates, is incredibly different than their other albums. The Ark Work is Experimental Rock and an experimental/electronic subgenre called glitch, so the genre should be extended to "Experimental Black Metal, Experimental Rock/Glitch."
https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Liturgy/3540287759
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHWmwfLqjT8 (sorry)

Knuckle Dragger's genre is fine, except I think Hardcore should be added to the tag; their three releases prior to the new ep were very hardcore, and less so death metal. So "Powerviolence/Grindcore/Hardcore/Death Metal."
https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Kn ... 3540450521
https://knuckledraggertn.bandcamp.com/ (4-Way Split, Pinion / Knuckle Dragger, self titled)

Since it's been a month since I originally reported this and my report is still there, unattended, I thought I'd bring it here.
Right now, Karg is labelled as Ambient Black Metal, which is true, if we listen to their earliest releases, but Dornenvögel, Weltenasche, Malstrom and Apathie are Post-Black for sure. Thank you very much.

Pyrexia has just returned to its roots of Brutal Death Metal with its new album ''Unholy Requiem''

With this, they should update their gender as:
Brutal Death Metal, Death/Groove Metal (without the ''early'' and ''later'')

Band Siniac from Macedonia (FYROM) ------- https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Siniac/12530
They have been accepted as a sympho black metal band, but their music is far from that...You should add Progressive Black Metal as their genre. They have a lot guitar solos, complex songwriting:

I would like to bump this. If you are going to keep Peste Noire's genre as simply "black metal" I would at least like an explanation as for why a band that has a history of incorporating electronics, hip hop, folk, circus music, and hard rock that just made a trap album doesn't warrant a genre update.

Alright, I think it's due time to update Peste Noire's genre. It doesn't make sense to describe them as pure black metal anymore, and really it hasn't since about "Ballade cuntre lo Anemi francor". What made me think of this again is that their latest single wasn't metal at all, but rather hip hop:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lOdqUmUubM

Peste Noire has experimented with a lot of other genres than black metal through their career. Some examples being the french folk music that has been present really all along, the industrial influences and progressive song structures on "L'ordure à l'état pur", the rapping on their self titled album and "La Chaise-Dyable", and the borderline punk and noiserock on the previously mentioned "Ballade". All this doesn't even mention their unconventional way of writting riffs and songs in general. I find it kind of strange that MA has resisted updating KPN for so long when I think they pretty evidently are more tha just black metal
I suggest updating their genre to "black metal (early), avant-garde black metal (later)".

The band Await the Desolation should probably have their genre changed. They are listed as death metal. They might have a little bit of death metal in their music but it's pretty firmly in the deathcore camp to me.

Tanker from BiH ------ https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Tanker/3540310110

The genre says sludge metal, southern rock....Leave it only on Sludge Metal, there is no clue of southern rock. When I was submiting them 9 years ago, i just copied the description from MySpace...erase that "southern rock":

Gorguts is set as Technical/Avant-garde Death Metal, and it's true. But, in his first works were clearly traditional Death Metal, his first 2 albums, and is not put on the label of the band. If Death is crossed out at his early stage, why not Gorguts? They are equal cases

I've already posted a report but the mods usually give a link to this thread without changing anything, so here is it.
The band I mentioned really played Black Metal (maybe Heavy/Black) on their first 2 albums. Here's a song from the second one as a proof: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZuwVbagoi0
However, now they obviously became Heavy/Doom Metal (https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_cont ... A1mIgrAlO8) but it is not reflected in their genre field.

I sent this report more than a month ago and nobody paid attention to it, and I was forced to post it again

Pyrexia in their new album '' Unholy Requiem '', have just returned to their roots of Brutal Death Metal, leaving aside the Death / Groove they had been doing for years.

The label that Pyrexia would have to be updated in the following way:
Brutal Death Metal, Death / Groove Metal

Somebody listen to it and do the favor that change it:

An Empty Room needs a slight fix to their genre. When I submitted them, I realized there was a typo. The genre is "Sludge/Drone/Doom Metal, Industrial/Ambient/Noise." It's fine except there is no Industrial exactly. It might start to get more convoluted but drone would also work here, but drone metal is in the other side of the genre. "Sludge/Drone/Doom Metal, Drone/Ambient/Noise."

https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/An ... 3540428997
https://anemptyroom.bandcamp.com/album/unbirth-ep
https://anemptyroom.bandcamp.com/album/ii

The Psychodox also needs a slight fix. In his 10+ albums it's all Gothic/Sludge/Doom Metal, but there are a handful that have infused Industrial Metal. So I think Industrial/Gothic/Sludge/Doom Metal is more accurate.

https://psychodox.bandcamp.com/album/an ... trip-vol-3
https://psychodox.bandcamp.com/album/su ... mpty-space

Sirenia's first two albums are a good example of great symphonic gothic metal, but further releases are too watered-down to be considered gothic metal. I propose to split their genre into three phases, first one is symphonic gothic metal:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckJY8KiuZDk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00p2f8H3oUU
Second phase is a little bit hard to classify, but I would say it's symphonic gothic/power/nu metal. You can definitely hear power and mallcore influences, the latter especially in the second song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njPWBTIv9qw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouZQ7rgAq-I
Third phase is straight-up symphonic power metal à la Nightwish:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGePool-Heg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=323wCp6ZTaE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vdsvIdiXz0

If you feel like three phases is too much for this band, then I believe it can be something like "Symphonic gothic metal (early), symphonic power metal (later)". But current classification is too misleading. Gothic metal is a very watered-down genre, so I think being a little bit more "elitist" in defining it will benefit the archives.

I'm not familiar with the band's discography or anything like that, but the sloppy and wordy genre in of itself stuck out to me. There has to be a better way to describe this band's sound.

They should update the Chimaira genre

It is true that before they did Nu-Metal, but they did not follow or finish with that. The first album '' Pass Out of Existence '' was an album entirely Nu-Metal, under the line of bands like Korn and Mudvayne. In the later albums they changed their style to the Groove Metal / Metalcore, but not in the style of Lamb of God, but they had their own label. In the first 2 albums under this new style, you can see that little Nu sound they inherited from the first album, but the truth is not so much to continue giving it the Nu label. After those 2, they continued with the style without the Nu touch with which they started.

The truth is that the first album of the band sounds more different than the later ones. It's just a matter of listening to your records.

If they did not put Chimaira before the 2nd album, then they knew that the first album was Nu-Metal, right?

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

It would be nice to update the genre of the band as:
Nu-Metal (early), Groove Metal/Metalcore (later)

Albums:
Pass Out of Existence (their entirely Nu-Metal album, with which they did not let the band enter the page from the beginning):

Chimaira (Here it is still under the same line as the previous album):

I feel like Plaguewielder from Luxembourg has a misleading genre tag.
https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Pl ... 3540370664

"Atmospheric Doom Metal" to me is standard or traditional doom metal with atmospheric qualities. Warning or 40 Watt Sun are atmospheric doom bands. Doom metal with heavy riffs, but clean vocals.

Instead this band sounds like Doom/Death Metal, and they are indeed atmospheric, so perhaps "Atmospheric Doom/Death Metal" - I think I came across them listed as "Funeral Doom/Death Metal" at some point, that would be accurate too, especially with how slow they play on "Drowned"

I'll repeat what I said in the chat for posterity's sake if somebody wants to pick this up: being mostly familiar with the full-length (so I can't speak to the EP), I think that album is mostly black metal. Downtuned and slow at times, but the riffs are very firmly BM IMO. The EP track I sampled did seem a bit more like The Ruins of Beverast, if somebody wants to change it on that basis.

I know it was brought up a few years ago, but couldn't Overkill's genre simply be Thrash/Groove Metal? It seems repetitive to see "Thrash Metal" listed twice, but I know what the mods mean by it as thrash was always a part of their sound, even when they went groove.

Their tag was like that until around when The Grinding Wheel came out, iirc. The reason we have thrash mentioned twice is explained in the notes as they started off as pure thrash, went into their groove phase, and then went back to pure thrash with the last 4 (going to be 5 very soon) albums. Listing them as just Thrash/Groove Metal would imply the groove metal sound is still present, when it's not. I think the tag is fine as is.

Hi, I think that the genre of Ulcerate really needs to be revaluated but with various mods, the proofs are here:
Brutal Death Metal (early):

The band Pestilent Death doesn't really fit what I think is generally considered "brutal death metal" nowadays. They sound more like old school US-styled death metal or possibly death/doom to me.

Hey all, currently while the unassigned part of the report queue is clear, there are a decent amount of wrong genre reports that I have assigned to myself and have not gotten around to taking care of yet. I'm posting this list here so other mods can go through it whenever they feel like it and take care of a report or 2, which I would very much appreciate. Once the report has been dealt with, feel free close it with a comment about if you changed it or not and to just edit this post and remove the band from it to help clear it up a bit more. Huge thanks to Antioch for creating this list and in general being super helpful with the report queue. Thanks to all who help with dealing with these!

Band: Genocide Generator

Having the prominent industrial sound that they do it would make sense to be more correct on the genre.

Grindcore with Industrial influences
Grindcore/Industrial

Whichever works

Blackmore Forever
Band: Spirit Descent
Report: https://www.metal-archives.com/report/view/id/665453

IMO they are mostly influenced - both for music and vocals - by bands like Saint Vitus above all, an not by such of Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus and similar.

So i think simply "doom metal" it's their style, without that "epic".

I don't know the other album and the first demo, but Dark Trauma is not power metal of any kind, it's much more a sort of heavy-thrash with a voice very similar to James Hetfield (and some growls here and there), also with some slight modern influences.
