I've always felt that the driving beat of "25 or 6 to 4" by Chicago could be a great metal song. Terry Kath was a monster guitarist.

The Sweet pretty much evolved their own proto-speed metal song from the 70s into actual speed metal in the 90s

This song also got a lot of pre-metal stuff going on

Pretty much all of Babe Ruth - First Base. Some nasty Iron Maiden style leads going on there.

This song is a power metal song in hiding. That fuckin' chorus is begging for some power metal treatment.

This song also would make a pretty good power metal track.

Pink Floyd - Mudman, covered by boris or Electric Wizard
Jacques Brel Song- Dans le d'Port Amsterdam, could be covered by Iced Earth or Peste Noire for two completely different styles
Yelawolf - Box Chevy, covered a funeral doom band like Mournful Congregation or Loss
Edith Piaf L'Hymne L'Amour, covered any viking/pagan/folk black metal band
