Testament - Urotsukidōji

Interesting instrumental. Low is an impeccable album.

Woods of Ypres - December in Windsor

Why does this band get so much hate on this site? They were great.

Black Sabbath - When Death Calls

Tony Martin is severely underrated as a singer with Black Sabbath. His albums with the band has been relegated as afterthoughts having been overshadowed by the '70s classic Ozzy albums and the early '80s albums with Dio. But with closer inspection, any of the Tony Martin-Sabbath albums can stand toe to toe as far as quality goes with any other era of Black Sabbath. His vocals on 'Headless Cross' is simply amazing and one of the best ever recorded on any metal or hard rock album.

Honestly, Undertow is still a mystery to me. The only Tool album I am yet to digest. If we exlude the instrumental part near its end, I still don't feel this track as I do, say, "Forty Six & 2".

Amazing album, didn't appreciate it immediately but it's really improved over time. Unity of vision and all that. Love the organ in "Sacred Horse". Good mix of proggy sounds, post-rock soundscape type shit, and more aggressive parts. Sometimes I feel the heavy parts are weak, like in "Storm Son", but after warming up to the sound I think they fit and grow quite well.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - The Mercy Seat

Good way to wake up - a mix of blues, carnival-style melodies, lounge music and goth as God intended.

Headless Cross is a monster of a track, but my favorite (vocally) would probably be either 'The Shining' or 'Eternal Idol'... Or 'Glory Ride.' Damn it, I love that album.

Basically everything you can do right in an old school death metal song.

I just realized after all these years how awesome the solo in 'The Family Ghost' by KD is. Holy shit.

King Diamond - The 7th Day of July 1777

Edit: The solos in this one, too! Damn.

Edit 2: This whole fucking album! I've only had this for like 15 years; how come I'm just now realizing just how mindblowing the guitarwork on it is?! Better late than never....

Hermóðr - I stillhet

So beautiful! Have Hermóðr ever released an album just as great as Hädenferd? I've sampled their discography, but nothing has come close to Hädenferd in my opinion. Just solid track after solid track.

Andre Matos - The Turn Of The Lights

Not as good as the Angra or Shaman albums he was on, though still enjoyable and quality power metal.

Soulmass - The Weakness of Virtue

It kind of boggles my mind that they'd start this off with such a long, slow, and boring track. The album fortunately mostly picks up the pace and songwriting after that, although it never reaches the level of "good."

Coroner - Mistress of Deception

I've had R.I.P. for years and while I thought the guitar playing was cool, the songs themselves never did much for me. THIS on the other hand is total mind fuck tech-thrash goodness!

Usurper - Slaughterstorm

Still on this kick and trying Necronemesis now. Sounds gnarlier and punkier than Twilight Dominion. Fucking sweet guitar tone and gleeful, evil thrashing.

This intro must have been fucking terrifying in 1981. It makes it seem like you're about to hear a devastating black or death metal record.

Solitude Aeturnus - Through the Darkest Hour

Good stuff, seems less epic than the previous one. A little groovier. Big fan "The 9th Day: Awakening" though, great chorus. Stormbringer, huh...
