Can anyone recommend any technical death metal bands similar in style and strength to say...nile and early decapitated? Oh and another egyptian themed metal band would be a bonus

early Psycroptic
Spawn of Possession
Lykathea Aflame
Byatis
Odious Mortem
Lost Soul

More Egyptian themed DM:

Scarab
Crescent
Maat

Hi all. I would appreciate some old school DM recommendations based on Master and Malevolent Creation. Some other bands I am listening to include Krabathor, Fallen Christ, Sinister etc.

If you like early Malevolent Creation...perhaps Solstice or Hellwitch? There's a little more thrash to their sound however.

Thanks, I'll give this a try.

What I hear so far of Hellwitch so far I like. And yes, I can sense the thrash elements as well.

I was supposed to see Hellwitch a couple weeks ago, with Disma, Kurnugia, and Morgue Supplier, but they dropped, and then the whole show was cancelled. Fucking gay.

Its safe to say mine is really weird, experimental, gonzo death metal along the likes of Wormed/Gigan/7 H. Target these days.

I can enjoy all types of death metal but I find myself increasingly avoiding newer bands if "weirdness" isn't top priority.

Wormed I have been trying to understand for some time but the weirdness factor is a bit high. The regularness factor, inversely, is low, thereby making it less listenable for me. 7 h. Target seems to be regular slam so it's ok to listen to.

@Rippingheadache,

What do you think of Artery Eruption?

Ingested is about the first Brutal Death I've actually liked. Anything else I'd like? It does not need to have -core elements like Ingested, for the record.

They're awesome. I love that type of weird, chaotic slamming death metal that sounds wrong on so many levels. I also dig the following bands for the same reasons:

Animals Killing People
Copremesis
Andromorphus Rexalia

Just discovered Graceless from The Netherlands; simple retro death metal that's rather massive and a bit Bolt Thrower-ish.

What's the first Suffocation album one would recommend to someone who hasn't listened to them before?

Personally Human Waste is the only thing I listen to as far as Suffocation goes, which is a great EP that's not really as technical as they'd become but Effigy of the Forgotten is probably considered to be the band's best in general.

Human Waste is a great release but I think Pierced from Within is the best example of Suffocation doing their thing.

Here's a bunch I'm sure you'll enjoy. I've been on a huge brutal death metal binge these past few months.

Iniquitous Deeds
Septycal Gorge
Incinerate
Mindly Rotten
Abysmal Torment
7 H. Target
Scrambled Defuncts
Amputated Genitals
Blasphemer
Inveracity
Encenathrakh

Although not a load of bands (only a few, actually)...

Deeds of Flesh, Defeated Sanity, and Mass Infection are three you should look into if you don't know them already.

Pierced From Within is the usual choice for the "If you only buy one of their albums..." question, and I agree with those people. Fantastic death metal, one of the genre's finest albums.

I'm looking for stuff that sounds like the first two Gorguts albums but not like their stuff after that.

Have you tried the first two Atrocity albums? I believe Erosions was influenced by those releases in particular.

Wicked Innocence is also worth a shot, though this might be a stretch.

Greetings. Looking for some dm that isn’t technical but also not SFU-tier simple. Stuff that still rips and shreds without triggering my guitarist’s inferiority complex. Stuff along the lines of Catacomb, Purtenance, Acrostichon, Cruciamentum, etc. No death-doom please! Thanks :)

If you liked Slugathor, check out Desecresy too! Tommi from Slugathor performs all of the instruments in Desecresy.

I'm looking for some gritty, downtuned death metal with lots of mid tempo double kick drums in the vein of 'Chopped In Half'. Mind you, I'm not looking for the obituary sound.
Low growls, downtuned, dusty and funerous sounding riffing.

I'm looking for death metal similar to this but with better production. I really like the very heavy low end riffs though but just something with better production.

Just saw your post, sorry, but this is great stuff. Definitley has that similar festering vibe as Slugathor. Many thanks.

Dead Congregation sound quite a bit like that at times. I think it's the more dissonant parts of their songs that make me think of this.

I actually mentioned the similarities I find they have to Immolation in one of my YouTube videos. The part about Dead Congregation starts just after the four minute mark.

I've been looking for melodic/technical death metal that is able to successfully mix different vocal styles the way Opeth does? I have run into a numerous bands that try and either the clean sections aren't effectively delivered on key or the death vocals sound too much like grindcore or what not. So what would be some examples of bands that also do what Opeth does effectively? I am aware of 3 Inches of Blood which at one point explicitly had two vocalists for this purpose, same with Ensiferum or Suidakra (and they aren't really considered death) and so was looking for others?

A couple that I can think of that you may or may not have looked into (they are reasonably well-known after all) are Into Eternity and Scar Symmetry. If you look into Scar Symmetry, I would start with their earlier material when the vocals were handled by just one vocalist. They later employed two singers to cover the two types of vocals.
