Oh fuck yes thanks for the heads-up on this one, I missed it somehow. In Passing Ascension was ridiculously good when it came out and it has just continued to grow on me ever since.

Pretty pumped to check out this new Frozen Crown album. Their release from last year was one of my favourites and def one of the better power metal releases of the year. Was pleasantly surprised to see that they were already coming out with a new one. The single Neverending is quite good.

It's pretty much the same. Not that that's a bad thing, but as you can imagine their sound didn't really change over the course of 13 months. Still, one of the better PM bands to come around in recent years.

Yeah Ijust listened to it, didn't really blow me away or anything, but their last release took a few listens to reveal itself. Definitely gonna be a goto for some more upbeat stuff this year.

The new Magic Circle kicks major ass. Their vocals have always been their strong point, and this album is no different. He sounds great here.

Wormwitch - Heaven That Dwells Within

Black metal with crust and folk influences from Canada. An absolutely riff-fest this one.

Frostveil - Ephemeral Visions

This artist has been around for a few years and has put out a few minor releases, including a terrific dungeon synth EP called Antediluvian Majesty (2017). This is his full length debut, and I must say it is formidable. Melodic black metal with both aggression and emotion, one of the best albums so far this year without a doubt.

Out now on Dark Adversary Productions and the artist's bandcamp

Yeah that new Wormwitch album is great. New Exumer is fun too.

Other stuff I've been into lately: Magic Circle, Ceremony of Silence, Vehemence, and the Suffering Hour EP.

Can't wait for the new Nucleus album to drop in June. If this song is any indication it might be one of the best death metal releases of the year \m/

I thought the Wormwitch album was just alright. Some good ideas here and there scattered in a lot of blandness. Not bad, but I wasn't really a fan either. The band makes me think of Black Anvil.

Thank you for posting this. I briefly saw the album art pop up in one of my feeds and erroneously assumed that it was going to be some Lo-Fi plodding Doom Metal, which I just wasn't in the mood for. I'm glad that I was wrong and gave it a chance!

This album by Inculter released today and it is EXCELLENT. If you like fast, brutal thrash like I do, then you'll love this. If you're not familiar with the band, they're from Norway and are comprised of members of Reptilian and Sepulcher.

Side note, the production on this album is so good. The drums sound amazing.

That Aihos album is a good one indeed. The Meillä Oli Vain Yö debut is pretty good as well. The songs are pretty long and very winding, but it's also quite monotonous in style, almost too monotonous especially considering the album length. It's almost a bit of a paradox because it's very monotonous but also very not-repetitive as there are a lot of long riffs with the almost continuous wandering tremolo-picking.

The new Erebos, Hath, Haimad and Numonerean all came out today and all stand as top tier stuff for the most part.

Anyone into painfully emotive post bm should check Numonerean and any tolkein heads should get on that Erebos. Couple favorites for the year on first listen.

Yeah what a release day this has been. Dauþuz, Waldgeflüster and Ruadh out today as well.

Erebos has been a favourite of mine for quite some time.. if you enjoyed the new one you should check out his past material as well, all top notch (although all of it has been instrumental up to this point).

Year of the Knife - Ultimate Aggression, dissonant metalcore/edge metal
Triumvir Foul - Urine Of Abomination, cavernous death metal
Sulphur Aeon - The Scythe Of Cosmic Chaos, outstanding black/death metal
Popiel - Undying Insurmountable Chaos, noisy chaotic war metal
Ketzer - Cloud Collider, thrashy black metal
Fange - Punir, French death/sludge metal
Eggs of Gomorrh - Outpregnate, straight forward but great war metal
Applaud The Impaler - Ov Apocalypse Incarnate, for once an actually GOOD recent deathcore release. Been a while since I came across one of those.

From Poland with endless vitriol:

Spoiler: show

Black metal coming out of Poland over the last decade or so is almost guaranteed great stuff for me. And man does Gruzja fit the bill; ugly and utterly vitriolic black metal, with very interesting mid-tempo sections that are almost hypnotic ("Ilu nas było?" is definitely hypnotic and highly atmospheric). It's a pretty short album, but very varied too (check out "Jego glos"; that rolling polka beat somehow reminds me of a filthy BM rendition of something that could've ended up on a Gut or Cock and Ball Torture album). Also reminded me of Odraza re: the drugged up and vile atmosphere. Oh yeah, and the vocals are absolutely spectacular - remind me a bit of Wirus' performance on Nic co boskie nie jest mi obce and Nihil in general. And I might be imagining it, but can't help but feel there's a palpable sense of weirdness to the proceedings here (lyrics help with that).

Really brilliant BM, don't pass this up folks.

Is indeed great fun. Similar to Ripper from Chile, tho more nimble, and frankly with better riffs.

Inferi just released "End of An Era - Rebirth". Give it a listen if you like music that's both exciting and melodic (at the same time). This is AOTY material for me even though it's "only" a rerecording of older material. The cover art is excellent as usual and looks like something out of Dark Souls.

Yet another vote for Wormwitch. I really love it, but especially the first three tracks.

I really love the new None album "Damp Chill of Life". Best listened to all together, I haven't decided on favourite tracks yet, but after three full listens, I love it. DSBM from Portland, Oregon.

I just recently covered this on my blog and it's worth noting that I'm not even really a sludge fan and even I thought it was fucking awesome.

I would have ordered this already if the exchange rate wasn’t so egregious.

I'm jumping on the train too. Honestly was just expecting another album that everyone buys on splatter glow in the dark vinyl but is forgotten 3 months later to sit on a shelf and collect dust. I was pleasantly surprised how catchy and just straightforward good most of the album is.
