I know they're not really considered metal around here, but Tool's Sober is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. It's got anger (at others and at self), it's self loathing, it's fed up, it's heavy and dark, it's perfect. I'm looking for some more music like that; obviously looking for metal here, but I'd honestly take rock or damn near everything else too.

Seems like a perfect territory for Sentenced's Suicider, Nepenthe, Noose, Farewell...and last but not least Excuse Me While I Kill Myself..

As the user above me mentioned, Sentenced. Try Type O Negative too.

It seems to me the lyrical content of Grunge resorts to those themes, most often their songs are an occasion for bitter introspection...

Isn't this a theme of most DSBM bands and some BM in general?

I've found Dirt by Alice in Chains fits this a bit.

Unfortunately I'm not interested in DSBM (makes things a bit more difficult lol).

That makes things more difficult indeed, since self-hate almost by definition makes a BM band DSBM. What about traditional black metal? Probably you won't find a lot of "self-loathing", but anger and hate are abundant. My favourite record of this kind is Mgla's Exercises in Futility, which is very nihilistic, angry and misanthropic, does this fill your bill?

I disagree with the mention of Type O Negative, the only album of theirs that is uniformly self-loathing (World Coming Down) isn't really angry so much as it is hopeless and despondent. Alice in Chains is a better shout - at least Dirt is, an album that at numerous points conveys a sense of bitterness.

Maybe Dystopia would fit this bill.

What about the debut? It's angry as hell, and nothing screams self-loathing like misogyny. Pete even shouts YOU MAKE ME HATE MYSELF!
