I think this band (Gates of the Silver Star) deserves to change its genre to "Black/Doom Metal". A good part of it is rather slow-paced and a lot of notes are played on a lower, doomier register.

Actually, I'd love to second Funk Rock for Sykotic Synfoney; it definitely has plenty of strange enough breaks away from the heavier stuff to really classify it as "rock." The live videos for Repulsive Infestation aren't great, but they give a good representation of the genre, too. Also, regarding Elder, SOTLB agreed to add prog once the new album came out, but my response to him likely got buried. Would you agree for now that "Rock" should be slapped to the back of the tag regarding the last two albums, and newest EP--mostly the last two released.

Lastly, there's a small typo in the Flummox genre tag: Avant-Garde > Avant-garde.

I personally think the genre is fine as is. The slam tag is mainly being used for bands that are mostly slams, and there is a fair amount of regular bdm stuff inthe songs. The most slam it gets is like that two song EP that was recentally released. I think we should wait for another significant release to see if slam needs to be in teh genre tag.

I think the EP is still MDM, just a bit of a different kind. I do hear a lot of Black Dahlia murder influence in the riffs and there is a bit of -core influence in it, but nothing significant enough for a change.

Changed to brutal death metal/hardcore. Might have to relisten to the LP again to see if it warrents the slam tag, it sort of varies.

That small bit changed. But yeah, Sykotic Synfoney I'll listen again to it, just to make sure. I'm unfortuently sort of out of the wheel-house with the stoner/doom stuff. I could deal with Flummox cus I listen to a lot of experimental/avant-garde stuff but Elder is not my area of expertise. You want to give SOTLB a DM on that.

I'll try to do the rest of StealthP's stuff later, since a lot of them (read: Gorguts, Neuraxis) are bands I haven't listened to but have meaning to, so I'm just oigng to go through tie discography when I'm in the mood to.

https://knuckledraggertn.bandcamp.com/ (4-Way Split, Pinion / Knuckle Dragger, self titled)

Agoraphobic Nosebleed's genre is fine except Cybergrind needs to be added to the Grindcore tag (Cybergrind/Grindcore, Sludge/Doom Metal). They play more straightforward grind on Honky Reduction and Agorapocalypse, but are far more on the electronic cyber side of grind on Frozen Corpse Stuffed With Dope and--especially--Altered States of America.

Full of Hell's genre makes sense, somewhat, but they definitely play powerviolence and noise on their newest album. Might it just be better to condense the genre to "Powerviolence/Grindcore/Death Metal, Noise" (since the noise is played separate from the main genre, such as single tracks or segments of songs, or like the full EPs) and write in the notes that they shifted to a more deathgrind sound on their last two albums?
* https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Fu ... 3540438869

* https://fullofhell.bandcamp.com/album/a ... eavy-light (I know this was a one off collaboration, but it is definitely "noise" and "powerviolence" to describe the later genre)
* https://neurotrecordings.bandcamp.com/a ... ike-i-ache (Another one off collaboration that fits the noise and powerviolence in the later style)

I discovered Gutalax who needs a slight change to their genre: Goregrind/Grind 'n' Roll.

* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PO6HZKU-IM

I've also seen that Slam has been added as a genre, and here are two band's I've added that fit this tag:
* https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Ma ... 3540408586
* https://mancubus1.bandcamp.com/album/yo ... el-ep-2015

* https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Re ... 3540407912

Inhuman Nature is definitely defined as "crossover" on their new album. They have some crossover elements, with more hardcore elements on their first EP; vice versa on their new album.
* https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/In ... 3540431445
* https://inhumannature.bandcamp.com/album/inhuman-nature

Tore Fagerheim is an artist I've been meaning to bring up for a while now. His full length album, which got him accepted, was pure Melodic Death Metal; however, he needs additional tags. He ventures into pure Metalcore at times. He also has many singles, of many different styles. I think his genre needs to be extended to "Melodic Death Metal, Metalcore, Various." I think the comma works better because he ventures between the really melodic melodies and then into harsh palmuting; not really musically combining the two at the same time.

* https://metalguitarstuff.bandcamp.com/t ... tic-ballad
* https://metalguitarstuff.bandcamp.com/t ... king-track

Also, I think Rambo Hates Rainbows needs a slight addition, too. They released a Noisecore album in the middle of their discography, so "Black/Sludge/Doom Metal, Noisecore, Electronic." Of the few releases they have, it's the only other full length and the second longest release, so it's a legitimate style they've played. I can't find the first demo, but it included all three styles as well separately.
* https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Ra ... 3540407237
* https://8bitexternal.bandcamp.com/album ... ship-grind

Sorry for the long list, guys. Just get around to it when you're able to.

Darkthrone, I think, just needs a really minor adjustment to their genre to be more accurate. I feel that changing it to "
Death Metal (early), Black Metal (mid), Black 'n' Roll/Heavy/Speed Metal (later)." I think everything since F.O.A.D. or The Cult Is Alive has been very much black 'n' roll.

Not really,

Darkthrone has Black 'n' Roll elements but only from "The Cult Is Alive" to "Circle the Wagons". Everything from "The Underground Resistance" onwards is pure Black/Heavy/Speed Metal.
Furthermore, Darkthrone also has Crust Punk-like elements in these four albums, plus a Doom Metal vibe that's only present in the album released this year. We can't include them all.
If we must choose a label to describe the entire "later" era (the latest 7 albums, starting from "The Cult is Alive") there's no other way to make it more accurate than Black/Heavy/Speed Metal. I understand your point really, but replacing BM to "Black n' Roll" would make the latest three albums invalid genre-wise, plus their Black Metal style never went away.

Current genre: Black/Doom Metal, Ritual Ambient
Should change to: Black/Doom Metal

There simply isn't any ritual ambient, I dunno who hears any of that in their music and how and where, it doesn't exist.

I'm sure he would have pushed strongly for them to be included. I'm guessing there was a fight among the mods over whether to include them, and it ended with Metantoine being imprisoned in Napero's Finnish ice wizard tower.

They're actually on bandcamp, haha. Anyway, I'd say heavy/power metal is actually pretty accurate.

Mybad, I should have linked the band, it's the one from Brazil. Similarly named though.

Draconian's first two demos are black/doom metal. Shouldn't they have black metal as an early genre?
First demo, second demo.
Update: I propose "Melodic Black/Doom metal (early), Gothic/Doom/Death Metal (later)". Their first two demos are Katatonia and 90s BM worship. The guitars have a very black metallish sound. No gothic elements in these songs (female vocals don't count).

Sirenia's first two albums are a good example of great symphonic gothic metal, but further releases are too watered-down to be considered gothic metal. I propose to split their genre into three phases, first one is symphonic gothic metal:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00p2f8H3oUU
Second phase is a little bit hard to classify, but I would say it's symphonic gothic/power/nu metal. You can definitely hear power and mallcore influences, the latter especially in the second song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouZQ7rgAq-I
Third phase is straight-up symphonic power metal à la Nightwish:

If you feel like three phases is too much for this band, then I believe it can be something like "Symphonic gothic metal (early), symphonic power metal (later)". But current classification is too misleading. Gothic metal is a very watered-down genre, so I think being a little bit more "elitist" in defining it will benefit the archives.

This post was made back in February, but got no response. Thank you, Diplomate, for providing the links... as that means I don't have to. I would like to suggest a genre change for Sirenia.

Sirenia have a discography of 8 albums. The first two albums are indeed gothic metal - very similar to early Tristania albums. The next two albums, the gothic elements are much less promiment... and past the fifth album, the gothic metal is completely gone... it's just symphonic power metal with a female vocalist and a growler. It's closer to Epica than Nightwish, both musically and vocally. Listing them with three genres would be excessive. I would go with the second suggestion.

Bumping this, as it was posted a month ago and is on the last page.

Now I would also like to suggest a genre change for Voices of Decay, a band with 3 albums.

Their first album is very much black metal, not death metal. Keyboards are heavily used throughout and it's similar to Emperor's first album... I don't know whether to call it black metal or symphonic black metal. It seems very borderline symphonic to me, just like Emperor.

Their next two albums are, without question, melodic death metal.

My suggestion: black metal (early), melodic death metal (later). Maybe add symphonic to the early genre. Again, I'm undecided on that matter...

EDIT: Finally made up my mind. Black metal is enough.

Actually, the song Ditt endelikt from the sixth album has gothic elements, but that's it :) . Perils of the Deep Blue and The Seventh Life Path sound like symphonic metal with some extreme metal elements, and their last two albums are pure symphonic (power) metal like Xandria or Epica. So yeah, I agree that they should be labeled as "Symphonic gothic metal (early), symphonic power metal (later)".

I know that song very well. Personally, I hear no gothic metal in it... but even if I did, one song wouldn't be enough to warrant the band being labelled as such. I'll go with the same genre as suggested.

Well, at 0:30 you can hear gothic style clean guitars and prominent bass like in gothic rock. I just posted this song as an exception, since it's the only gothic metal sounding song from 4 albums. Yeah, they don't need the gothic tag now.
