So...wait a sec... that Nazi shithead band came out with Lord Vicar's album cover BEFORE Lord Vicar came out with it?

I was just going to rip that fuckhead band a new one on here with this post until I realized it was actually four years earlier than the GOOD band. Yeah what's up with THAT??? Lord Vicar are too good of a band to be plaigerizing a scum Nazi band for their cover art.

Any band that uses a pre-existing painting, as in a painting created not for the specific use of the album cover, will probably run into this "problem" that another band has used it before somewhere, somehow. These two bands (who I'm not familiar with) have used Arthur Rackhams painting Wotan's Farewell and just like Morbid Angels use of the Jean Delville painting on Blessed are the Sick it is bound to have popped up elsewhere either before or after their use of it. I doubt any band sees the cover of another band and thinks its a great idea to plagiarize it.

I guess that makes sense. Though it is unfortunate in this case where there is a clear difference in quality between the bands, both musically and ideologically.

As for the above, if you are not familiar with either band, then DO check out Lord Vicar- classic heavy metal with a slight Ozzy/Sabbath doom vibe, yet without being blatantly cheesy with the Sabbath tribute. (Do NOT bother checking out that other band- they don't deserve any sort of publicity.)

I can't quite seem to place the origins of this style though I have seen it on an album or two that I can't quite put a finger on.

It's from the Michael Whelan piece "Lovecraft's Nightmare B", here: https://www.michaelwhelan.com/galleries ... ghtmare-b/

It was used on a variety of records, though the Demolition Hammer is among the most famous users of the art.
