Smoulder - Ilian of Garathorm

Great stuff, doomy HM with female vocals.
I always enjoy that.

Abigor Time is the Sulphur in the Veins of the Saints
While doing my really boring daily stint of step-exercises, I listened to it for the first time in years; not as choppy/start-stop as I remembered.
OD Dwight Yoakum This Time This guy, rather hilariously, treads the very fine line between the 'cry-in-your-beer' genre and a brilliant parody of the same; esp. the well-crafted lyrics.
The music is well-conceived and played, btw.

Oh, boy! A new Mayhem album is due out Oct. 25th.
Anyone who wants to gimme a copy before then; feel free.

On Thorns I Lay - _Sounds of Beautiful Experience_

Holy shit, this is good! I love _Orama_ and enjoy parts of _Crystal Tears_ and a bit of _Aegean Sorrow_, but I'd never listened to their debut before. The sound quality is a bit uneven, but there are some really good ideas in here. It's more or less in the gothic doomdeath style of _Orama_ but a little more thematically diverse and perhaps less focused. Going to have to pick this up on CD.

Bad Religion - No Substance

I've understood this gets some shit among long time fans. I'm enjoying it.

EDIT:

Mercyful Fate - Don't Break the Oath

Apparently it was a good time to dig this up again.

EDIT:

Manilla Road - Metal

As years go by, I'm liking this more and more. Sounds like a very ancient album, which is not a bad thing at all in this case.

Stereolab - Reflections in Plastic Pulse

18 minutes of weird lounge bliss... this is a great album and song.

Ola Gjielo - The Ground

I feel fortunate to have seen him and the choir perform this song when I saw him last year. Stuff like this make me feel passionate about life and it was incredible to hear in person. If I had to pick a song for choir type music, this would probably be it.

Testament - 'Burnt Offerings'

Kind of soured on the first two Testament albums. So many forgettable riffs and middle-of-the-road material... but not this song.

King Diamond "Them"

My second favorite KD album. Andy LaRocque and Pete Blakk did amazing job here. Their riffs and tasty leads are one of the best within a genre.

I'm listening to the new record "Have You Found Peace? by the band Autism. I don't know what the rest of their discography is like, but it seems like from this record, they should be on the archives. Kind of sludgy/doom/experimental metal. This is pretty dark. Does anyone have any more info on them? I've read about the inspiration for the record, and it's pretty wild:

http://arcticdrones.com/reviews/autism- ... und-peace/\

(I have nothing to do with the above website or review. Just posting for info.

Dream Troll - "I Will Not Die Today"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uhr__ppVksU

Intriguing... A bit proggy but with breakdown riffage and sort of Ghost-esque vocals. Highly professional/slick sound.

Iron Maiden - Drifter

For some reason it took me a long time to get into Killers (I think because I was so used to Bruce on vocals) but it's a really fantastic album.

It's my favorite Maiden album. I prefer Bruce's vocals to Paul's, but the instrumental performances are just really great on _Killers_.

The Distillers - Hall of Mirrors

Their one major label album is my favorite thing they've done. Whoops.

Candlemass - Black Trinity

One of my favorite tracks off this record. Not a bad effort but I think it falls short of the latest Saint Vitus, which is my current 2019 king of Doom!

Granted I've only heard a couple doom records...

Sacrilegium "Wicher"

I'm just reliving the good old times, when the polish bm was a real deal.

Tool - Undertow

I think getting more into that heavy, rhythmic 90s rock sound was really all I needed to get this band. It's not terribly esoteric, though their later material seems to take things much further.

Speaking of Tool ...

Tool - Fear Inoculum (title track)

If this is representative of the new album, I'm in no hurry to buy it. There's not enough variation in this song to justify 10+ minutes.

The Obsessed - Lunar Womb - The Church Within

I recently re-listened the first three albums by The Obsessed, awesome.

@Tool it's crazy how alien their later music can get even if it's made with just a good old pentatonic scale thrown into the right amount of rhythm section insanity

Skyforger - Island of Death

Easter European folk metal can be so damn good sometimes, some of those bands are treasures

Mortiis - En mørk horisont 3 & 4

I always like these 2 parts together (spotify divides the whole song up in many parts). I think I might like this even more than the first Mortiis album (Født til å herske). Very sad and melancholic, but also powerful and strong. The final two lines always give me the chills

Jeg ser en trist verden
Jeg ser en mørk horisont

I see a sad world
I see a dark horizon

Theocracy - On Eagle's Wings

Very catchy song; I'll probably have it stuck in my head for the rest of the day (not that that's necessarily a bad thing since it's a good song!).

Possessed - Shadowcult

This has grown on me more and more. Inching up my list of favorite 2019 albums. Nice riffage, and the vocals which I didn't like at first are working more and more.

Beherit - Salomon's Gate

The ultimate summer album, for some odd reason. Has been since the dawn of this (Satan's?) millenium.

Exhorder - I Am the Cross

If i want to crank some groovy shit this is it. Fucking good shit without getting the moments of pure stupidity that plagued most Pantera after CFH.

Citron - Svět patří nám (Singl 1989)

Upbeat, anthemic song with the band's different singers over the years on one track together. I dig it!

Excalion - Waterlines

As much as I love their last few albums, this one was a pinnacle for polish and power. Just such a killer album. One of the best PM albums of the 00s for sure.

The Hidden Hand - For All The Wrong Reasons

Gotta love the doomier end of Stoner Metal and Stoner Rock. These grooves are just so much fun!

Well... Summerlands is the ultimate space-beach song :)

Metal Chirch - Method to your Madness

Strange song for them, but i always liked it. The "endless sleepless nights" line at the end of the chorus always sounded eerie to me

King Gizzard... - _Nonagon Infinity_

My first introduction to the band. It's... energetic. Not sure it's as original & mindblowing as some reviews say. Those Australians sure love their blues, don't they?

"Aegis" is basically The Sisters of Mercy gone metal and I'm here for it.
