Dråpsnatt — I Evig Tid (from I Denna Skog)

How this band is not better known is beyond my comprehension. This is the most beautiful black metal album I've ever heard. Atmospheric black metal with some depressive and perhaps folk elements that has a lot of great clean guitar and piano passages, while still primarily driven by guitar riffs.

Update: they were actually already posted here, and even with this song. Still, they deserve more recognition. I simply can't get enough of this song's ending, it brings a tear to your eye.

Thanks for giving attention to it. It is indeed very beautiful, but has also tons of awesome riffs. Usually when a black metal band is focusing on synths for atmosphere, the riffs get neglected. These guys are an exception!

Nocturnus is a pretty cool band.

Iron Maiden - Where the River Runs Deep

One of the more understated tracks on Book of Souls. Pretty sweet riff.

IMHO one of the few good tracks on it, nice flow to the tune and a nice riff.

NP - Kreator - Carrion

Classic "on the edge of death metal" thrash. Brutal!

I think all of it is awesome really.

King Gizzard - Shades of Brunswick East

Trippy, mellow mood and weird underwater-sounding vocals. Liking the journey into these guys so far.

Necrodeath - Sauthenrom

Seriously one of the best black/thrash/death metal albums out there - sort of like Pleasure to Kill 's riffing mixed with the atmospheric parts of Hell Awaits. I've got to review this.

Metallica - Fade to Black (live)

This is the third song ever I remember loving. The first one was The Final Countdown, Sad But True the second. They really nailed it in this later performance. Of course the song doesn't raise feelings like it used to. Too many replays.

Anathema - Better Off Dead

Quite different from the Bad Religion original, but that's a good thing - a cover shouldn't just be exactly like the original anyway.

I love them both equally.

Arkaik - Supernal Flame

Unexpected youtube recommendation, the next album should be interesting. I think I can hear a slight deathcore influence in their sound and I don't mind it at all.

Anathema - A Dying Wish

A bit more lively than their earlier stuff - might as well give The Silent Enigma a go in its entirely again.

Man, this is moving up my 2019 list. As a huge fan of Vincent's vocals I'm loving this mix with the killer guitars and drums.

I saw them at Brutal Assault and was thinking about knowing the vocalist. :P

Pylon - Fair Haven Of Thesterness

Plodding doom metal with hints of psychedelic and epic doom. I dig it.

Metallica - Wasting My Hate

Fuck this is a great cut and a great record. Thank Lemmy James had realized that writing thrash was not what he was about at this point and wrote an honest album. Love the groove on this during the chorus. Thick and heavy. Jason killed it on this album.

Load is a good album. Lots of rock-n-roll gems on there.

The Protomen - Hold Back the Night

Now this is pretty smooth. Kind of weaves between conventional rock and metal. Good stuff.

Converge - A Single Tear

Fucking unhinged rabid aggression; love it. They write amazing riffs and the way they keep the energy up is near-unparalleled.

I always forget what the actual title of this song is. Is it Waste Your Hate, Waste My Hate, Wasting My Hate? (a quick search on Metallica.com says Wasting My Hate). Anyway, one of my favourite tracks from Load.

Face to Face - Velocity

It's gonna be fun seeing these guys with Lagwagon in September. I realize I've been to more punk shows than metal shows this year. Uh oh.

Norn - Das Gewisse Etwas: This is obscure band and this song has some tight riffs. It's one of the faster songs on the album and it's quite enjoyable.

Alcest - Kodama

This is really interesting. I have no clue what side of things this falls on, or if this is even metal, but it's intriguing me for sure! It's super gorgeous.

So has the tide turned recently considering this album? Some good songs there for sure, The House That Jack Built, Until it Sleeps, Bleeding Me, The Outlaw Torn...

Bad Religion - No Substance

Still liking it. An anthemic album.

Eve of Mourning - Chamber of Sorrows

Bizarre, semi-harsh vocals moaning over slow, crushing doom - The closest I can compare this to is Cathedral's Forest of Equilibrium.

I dunno. To me Load is packed with great tunes. I'd probably cut out a couple tracks but overall love it.

Equilibrium-Renegades

What a shitter. They got rid of anything interesting they did on Armageddon. Boring melodies, terrible usage of keys, most of the songs have awful clean and guests vocalists. It’s like they got rid of the folk and tried to become more epic. Why do bands do this? Wolfchant and Nothgard both started moving away from folk melodies to boring EPIC CHORUSES and they both released stinkers. GOD I shouldn’t even be surprised when I heard the single track. What a disappointment.

Great Dreamy synth pop!
