Rorcal - Heliogabalus
Khanate - Khanate
Burning witch - Crippled lucifer

Thanks for replying

I think you're on the right track with Rorcal as the only other band that fits me is called HELL https://www.google.com/url?q=https://ww ... aN2JsTFN6a (I keep calling them rascal lol) but they're still too distorted for a daily listen, definitely will listen to them but I'm looking for something to grab onto for a longer while. (as for HELL, I don't play them daily because the vocals are overshaowed by the instrumental, a worthy note is that they don't even have the deep sounds that I look for, but they're still the closest I've gotten to listening doom metal)

Khanate sounds alright too but still not the right sound, sounds kinda experimental too

burning witch is good but it'll end up on my black metal playlist. Not Doom Metal enough for me lol

Regarding the deep sounds, it's very hard to explain it, it's like part 7:17 but even deeper https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KnyL4IFcwo

Huh. Burning Witch is doom as fuck.

I quite liked https://hadrondk.bandcamp.com/album/hadron don't like the production/guitar tone much, but the songs are good, in an unpretentious kind of way. epicish doom from denmark.

Can I get some recs for real thick Doom with a very despair filled feel? Something that sounds like someone losing their will to live or going mad.

Mmh, personal feeling don't alwyas lead to accurate recommendations... I guess Black Doom is the right scene to visit? Stuff like Deynonichus, Mourning Dawn, Funeralium... Anything within Doom that'd throw in demented vocals and a couple of hysterical chords would do, no?

Edit: Wormphlegm would do the trick in this Black doom vein too...

Every time I hear The Gault - The Shore Becomes The Enemy, I imagine a salty captain on a ship carried helplessly by the sea into certain death of the ever-nearing rocky shore. The vocalist's wails at the end of the song are pretty dang full of despair.

Here's the full album, but the specific song I mentioned starts at around 45:49.

fall of the idols, from finland. underrated, ultra-heavy and seriously depressing. there's no light at the end of their tunnel.

???

If you mean evil, I'd go for Vaee Solis
if you mean seductive and vicious, I suggest Undersmile
I you mean seclusive and nature-inspired, I d'go for Esben and the Witch...

And I you mean all of that, Murkrat comes up as a good evocative summary

The whole female-fronted sludge scene is the right place to visit, I supppose...

I don't think of any "witch-like" music that wouldn't be sung by a female singer...

Could you give an example that would represent what you have in mind?

I don't hate female fronted music, I hate female fronted sludge. I was looking for doom, haha.
Hm. I get my request is vague haha

Night Resident, from greece, featuring members of similarly splendid band Speedblow... been rocking it since dr.Doom added them yesterday. not technically doom in my book, more like Ghost without the bite taken out of the guitars, and thus super catchy.

You might enjoy UK's Mourn. They played female-fronted doom before it was cool haha. Their music doesn't have that sinister feel IMO that you might be searching for, though it has a sorta mysterious feel which I suppose is witch-like?

Anybody know of some good doom metal bands with deep, crooner style vocals? I'm not talking about guys who just happen to sing low like in Abysmal Grief or My Dying Bride, but more of that classic Scott Walker style with vibrato and the like. The type of doom in question isn't as important as the vocals, but naturally it should be a case where cleans are the dominant approach one way or another.

Don't know about similarities to Scott Walker, but this one has crooner-ish vocals:

this one is even more bizarre, maybe more what you're after?

The second one is more along the lines of what I was thinking of, though it's not especially riffy doom which was more what I had in mind. Still, a pretty good example. The first one had the low singing but not in as dramatic as I'm looking for.

You can listen to the whole album here, it's rather full of heavy riffs:

It'd be useful to clarify the request, it could narrow the recs... Do you mean a band like Swallow The Sun?

They're many the bands that play this style of melo doom; off the top of my head these have all clean vocals, but not always totally in the buff style of Within the Fall:

Hanging Garden
Hamferd
Lucidity
Wine From Tears
Marche Funèbre
Vin de Mia trix
Plateau Sigma

Well, the specific male clean voice feature does the difference, it's not a "must have" of this style. Other than that, musically, they don't particularly stand out.
Thinking also of these in the same muscular melodic line:

Lying Figures: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61SM6EoOlNc (includes cleans)

And these have no clean vocals, or only traces of:

Human Collapse: https://humancollapse.bandcamp.com/
October Tide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44vn2UJYYEA
Daylight Dies: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-RN3W2u0zk

Nothing compares to Unholy. :D

Mordor, Dolorian, Betlehem.. They come close but Unholy is unique.

Not sure where to put this gem I discovered, doom or heavy metal rec thread.
Gothic Stone, bit of a deceiving name but if you know where it's taken from it makes sense.

Italian band, apparently formed in 1991, then took a 25 year hiatus before releasing their debut album. A mix of Candlemass and Grand Magus and a bit of Rainbow's Rising. I also think of Veni Domine's first album for some reason.
AotY? Could very well be!
