Not sure what your preferred albums were in their catalogue but from what I've heard a lot of their later material is fairly dire.

The first four, and nothing else.

Sonata Arctica changed pretty drastically after those (really, after their first three IMO) though I think there's still plenty of enjoyable material from everything since.

I own all of their albums on CD (except the newest one), and Silence on LP. I've listened to them numerous times but haven't found anything I've liked, really. Losing My Insanity from Stone Grow.. is pretty memorable, but that's about it for me.

The Church - Reptile

One of the standout tracks from the Australian post punk band's magnificent "Starfish" album.

Great stuff, can't wait for more!! Guess I'd better check out W.A.S.P., eh?

NP: Helstar - Nosferatu

It took me so long for this to click. I had this album for several years, listening now and then and thinking it was okay. Something happened though, and I can't stop playing it on repeat. I had planned to play the new Atlantean Kodex but I need to be in the mood, and Helstar is keeping me to itself for now...

Sonata Arctica - Cold

Good tune, grown on me quite a bit and was kick ass live. Makes sense in the context of the album. Piercing, memorable vocals and wintry synths/riffs.

I would argue only 3 W.A.S.P. albums are mandatory: The Headless Children, The Crimson Idol, and Still Not Black Enough. But that's just me.

Warrior Path - Riders Of The Dragons

Greek Heavy/Power metal.
Epic and uplifting, just like it should.

David Bowie - Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust
Perfect in all terms - songwriting, passion, sound.

Hypocrisy - Abducted
Didn't give it a full length spin back in the day, so now I enjoy it in entirety. Brilliant album. Diverse and headbanging. Melodic yet with huge balls.

Venom - Red Light Fever

A nasty and filthy piece of 80s metal! Sounds like Darkthrone tried to make this song 100 times in the last 00s.

Rammstein - Reise, Reise

Pretty great, pounding anthems. Been a long time since I heard any of these songs.

Cool, didn't know you were into Rammstein. RR is good, but I'd recommend their album Mutter as my personal favorite. A bit more moody and atmospheric.

I used to play some of their stuff when I was much younger. Mostly songs off RR and Rosenrot since those were when I was getting into heavy music. Hearing about their new album and that stunt where two of their members kissed on stage made me curious to listen again.

Their new album was...meh. A lot of plodding mid-tempo songs but without any of the crushing atmosphere that makes the similar-tempo songs on Reise Reise hit so hard.

This album finally got me into black metal. Checked them out because of Dargaard, never regretted. I can't listen to it too much though, it's really chaotic.

“Unworthy” by Jag Panzer. I so strongly identify with this song. If you call yourself Christian, but never have doubt about whether you’re worthy to go to Heaven, you’re probably doing it wrong!

Indeed, it's a bit chaotic but as a whole it's awesome. I like their specific sound.

NP:
Necrophobic "Darkside"

Not as good as debut but they became here more black than death metal band. Very good album.

Not to derail this thread... but wouldn't you say the core of Christianity is that nobody is worthy - which is why Christ had to come on our behalf?

Now playing:
Sonata Arctica - Fade To Black

Their new album should be arriving any minute now from the mail-lady... :)

Arnaut Pavle were one of the coolest and catchiest of such primitive raw black metal acts with just a short EP but they've now released a full length https://arnautpavle.bandcamp.com/album/arnaut-pavle-2

Covenant - _In Times Before the Light_

\m/ I guess I'm a mainstreamer, though, because I still think _Nexus Polaris_ is better. The debut sounds a lot like a classier version of _Stormblast_-era Dimmu Borgir.

Visigoth - Traitor's Gate, off Conqueror's Oath

This one's got some raw fucking lines to it, I tell you.

"Blood like a ruby curse
Stabwounds ensconced in my spine like a diadem's jewels
Dread crown upon my brow"

Just... metal as fuck, man.

Pelican - Midnight And Mescaline

I find Pelican takes many spins for me, without vocal melodies to latch onto. This is really good, though.

That orchestral part is the most orgasmic thing that Maiden ever did XD

Crawling old black metal. This not so far from early Barathrum, IMO. Into the Pentagram!
