Hello everyone,

I was wondering if you could help me out with a question that I have been working on. Bands like Gojira, Wolves in the Throne Room and even Cattle Decapitation infuse ecological and sustainability related messages into their music. Are there others?

Hate to be that guy, but my Atmospheric Black/Funeral doom project has a lot of lyrics and ethos on homesteading, self sufficiency, homebrewing and shit like that. As someone who's really into all those, you can find ecological themes like that with my music

Infernal Coil are death metal in the vein of Knelt Rote and they deal with this topic a lot.

Solid work! Was it named after Cold Body Radiation's LP mixed with their name?

While clearly ecological lyrics might not be very common I think metal has had plenty of "back to the earth"/"back to nature" kind of themes. Usually it seems to stem from a more pagan mindset where one idealized that lunar world view as closer to nature in opposition to the more solar and transcendent type thinking of Christianity. Not uncommon is also a general loathing of the modern world and a will to remove oneself from it.

I dunno how to use this thing! (I mean, this is my first time using the forum) Hahaha, but I want to colaborate with this topic because I really like it :3. Looking for an answer have some lyrics of vegetarianism and environmental issues, Ecocidio is one of my favourite songs. If you enjoy grindcore/death metal, is THE band, THE ecological grindeath band xD. Another one could be Re- Animator with their album called "That Was Then... This Is Now".

I dunno what the fuck I did, but here will come my answer again xD!

This is my first time replying in a MA forum. I would like to add Looking for an Answer (grindcore/death metal), they've some lyrics about Animal Liberation (I think that some members are vegan or vegetarian) & Environmental issues. If you like the genre, that's THE band, THE grindeath ecological band! :3.
Another one could be Re-Animator (United Kingdom, thrash metal) with their album called "That Was Then... This Is Now", artwork is very explicit. Extra fact: this is not my favourite album, the only one that I really enjoy is the first one.

You'd probably be able to find some in Panopticon's work.

Yes! I think that CD is under-rated.

Demolition Hammer has a few great ones. They certainly have a way with words, those New Yorkers.

Downwind Death
Torrents of liquid death fall from infected skies
Man-made poison atmosphere, downwind death reprise
Toxic vegetation reaping fruits of ill-effect
Aquatic horror, emanating deadly manifest

Cataclysm
Solar holocaust, accumulating frost
An icy tomb awaits you
Polar caps build, glaciers rumble from the poles
Ice covered regions

Infectious Hospital Waste
Low tide, revealing a display so vile
Preys upon the unsuspecting
AIDS link, vials of unknown serum beached
By deliberate acts of dumping

Solefald’s Neonism has ecological themes but it’s buried underneath the abstract/philosophical lyrics. Definitely worth a listen, I mean he mentions Darwinism and Calvin Klein in one song but it works. It’s more of an attack on urbanization and corporatism and a move away from the old way of life (ie. when we were closer to nature
).

Sadus - Swallowed in Black

Basically their musical “career” started with an ecological statement.

Actually yes, and most people assume it's between Katatonia albums.

Also, the original title was to be Great North Woods, in nod to a big swath of forest in New England (my home), so i kinda adopted a big portmanteu of it all

Coldplay.

No but, imagine Darkthrone came out and said "this is the reason why we've never toured"? Have any of the metal bands mentioned in this thread ever stated this?

As the resident hippie of MA, eco-black metal is something I really enjoy. Here are some of my favorites:

Fauna
Botanist
Alda
Skagos
Panopticon

For something a bit more aggressive, check out the blackened crust band Fall of Efrafa. Despite only a short run of activity, they remain as one of my favorite bands ever. Inspired by the novel ‘Watership Down,’ their lyrics are heavily focused on environmental and animal rights.

Pain Of Salvation's second album, One Hour by the Concrete Lake, features a concept dealing with environmental issues in general and Lake Karachay in particular. Based on the type of guy frontman Daniel Gildenlow is, I wouldn't be surprised if their next album—working title: Panther—deals with climate change, but nothing has been revealed yet.

Oh, I should’ve also mentioned Falls of Rauros. Incredible band blending folk and black metal. Start with Hail Wind and Hewn Oak.

First one to pop in my head was Greenhouse Effect from Testament. It was also their best/worst shirt design.

D.R.I. had Acid Rain on their Definition album.

Part of Anniilation of Civilization from Evildead had an environmental message
"The Rain that falls from the sky, turning toxic,
The atmosphere is melting away,
Disposing of nuclear waste in the sea,
Children dying of starvation in the streets"

DRI had Toxic Rain from the definition album

And on a side note I just realized that Greenhouse Effect and Brainwashed from Nuclear Assault have the same intro.
