Incidentally, I just found this one track; I guess it's very worth investigating it further, but there doesn't seem to be any other track from this tape around:

Hello people. You may treat as a self-promotion but I'm actually serious about the question.
https://mordenheim.bandcamp.com/releases

This is a project of mine and my friends. We've released our EP yesterday. We play something between doom metal and a muddy death metal, Disembowelment alike. I'm looking for some bands that could be comparable to us because to be honest I find it quite hard to find any "FFOs" that would be actually valid. Thanks for feedback.

An interesting listen. Some comparisons that came to mind at various points were Lord of Putrefaction (Jus Oborn's first pre-Electric Wizard band), early Esoteric and Electric Wizard themselves.

very unusual mix. the song is one "subgenre", then you have an all-out guitar solo, when the voiceover came in I thought another autoplay video had come on :D please get better artwork for your next release. even just your logo on a black background would qualify as "better" :)

Mh, except for their debut album, don't hear a lot of doom metal features in Madder Mortem myself.

But still, in the prog, baroque vein of MM, I recommend

Universe217: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ru7oDgCIizI&t=166s (this band too sounded doomier on their previous releases)
And Somnus: https://somnus1.bandcamp.com/album/misanthropic-land (rather similar)
And Heavy Temple https://heavytemple.bandcamp.com/album/chassit (more stoner vibes here)

I've heard of Universe 217 and have meant to check them out, so now's probably a good time.

Yes, be sure to give them a try, they're pretty impressive. A flawless discography imo.

Looking for stuff that utilizes long single note harmonies such as what is found in Paradise Lost 'Beneath Broken Earth'

I'm sure I can think of more, but at the moment, this is the only thing that pops into my head. Similar melodic sounding death/doom stuff.

With Black Sabbath's debut celebrating its 50th anniversary last week, I've been listening to it a lot recently and I'm in the mood for more of the same. I've always avoided that whole "retro-doom" thing in recent years, so I've missed a lot of stuff. I'm aware of Witchcraft and Orchid, who else is out there that recreates that early Sabbath vibe? I'd prefer to lose the bluesier side if possible. Anything that combines the dark doominess of "Black Sabbath" with the wyrd folky acoustic half of "Sleeping Village" is absolutely perfect.

Pretty cool, but not what I'm looking for here - far too rockin'. Thank you though.

I think the last part of my request ("combines the dark doominess of "Black Sabbath" with the wyrd folky acoustic half of "Sleeping Village") is what I want to focus on.

Haha, yeah, I'll take that! I am fussy, especially where Doom is concerned. I'm normally trying to home into a very specific vibe, and a lot of Doom annoys me. If I ever come across as ungrateful, I'm not.

A quick cursory listen to Demonhead sounds promising, I'll explore further. Cheers.

The sole acoustic "doom" project I know of is Forever Autumn, it's moody and doomy enough I guess, very seventies in spirit too; the singer is transgender, hence the weird voice:

Maybe Blood Ceremony, with the part of the request of the folkiness.

+ 1 to these, major kudos for the mention of The Slow Death, they are way too underrated.

Here are some very dreamy and ethereal sounding funeral doom bands that go heavy into the ambient side without overdoing.

Ras Algethi

I'm looking to check out some 80's doom bands that are not well known , yet still essential for anyone seeking to broaden their horizon of the doom sub genre of that time period ...

Thanks ahead of time for any recommendations by the way !

Sempiternal Deathreign (death doom)
Black Hole (trad gothic-tinged doom)
Witchfinder General (NWOBHM with a doom sound)

it's hard to tell where the line is in "not well known"... +1 for Witchfinder General, though in my mind if you like trad doom they're essential and should be very well known... Pagan Altar, Revelation, Iron Man, Death Row, Force? that Stillborn debut? Run After To, if you wanna go into the really obscure ones?

Definitely +1'ing the recs for Black Hole and Force (Force was the prior band of Al Morris III, guitarist of the much more well known Iron Man). Pagan Altar and Witchfinder General seem to be pretty well known these days, as far as old school doom metal goes.

Could also try Mercy, the band Messiah Marcolin was in before he joined Candlemass. Their first album, the s/t, really isn't doom, but the next one, Witchburner, is.

Paul Chain (and Paul Chain Violet Theatre) and pre-full length Death SS are pretty essential, I would say.

I really liked https://aeonaphelion.bandcamp.com/album/blind-descent undying distress is the "hit song", although the least trad doom of the lot...

I've been revisiting a lot of my older doom records recently. I still find Morgion's two last records to be some of the best doom ever released. What fantastic music!! And although there was a lot of derivative death / doom like Cryptal Darkness, some of those albums can still be pretty fun to revisit.

The new Virgin Black on the other hand is a big disappointment for me compared to say Requiem - Mezzo Forte.

I'd like to recommend Astral Sleep's new album, it' so much more mature and serious than anyhting they did before (they had the grating tendency to spice up their doom with a weird irony that could sound misplaced). It's become some ambitious Epic Death Doom, vast and captivating:

Can anyone recommend something in the vein of OM? More meditative, introspective and quieter stoner type atmospheric stuff?
