Blasphemy - Goddess of Perversity

Really love this band, they're scratching a major itch for really angry, spite-filled war metal. Hoping that when this shit is over, they can fly back to England and put on another nasty show.

Uriah Heep - Spider Woman

Hard to say which early Heep album is the best. Pretty much like them all.

Stratovarius - Out of the Fog

This is such a massive song - was blown away when I heard it the first time. Super heavy by their standards.

Tad Morose - Anubis

The no bullshit songwriting and kickass riffs are hitting a sweet spot for sure. They were just one of those all around killer bands back then.

Checking out the new Traveler album now. I'm half way through, and it's not grabbing me like the debut did, at all. I will give it much more attention in the next few weeks, but man, the first time I heard the debut I was hooked.

Yeah they're great though I would say that album (The Magician's Birthday) is my favorite overall. I think it has the best mix of their hard rock side and their prog rock side, even if Demons and Wizards does give it a run for it's money undoubtedly.

Yeah, they all have their moments. Look at Yourself is very strong with the title track, Shadows of Grief and Love Machine. Salisbury has the epic closing number, Bird of Prey and many others. The first one has some cool hard rockin' songs... Also noticed how good all their opening tracks are. They belong to the best!

Mystery Blue - s/t

The guitars on here are to die for; just gloriously groovy and acrobatic and melodious. So damn good. Somewhere between 70s Priest and early Maiden. Vocals are rough but not bad at all. Liking this a lot.

I'm am LOVING this album immensely!! How's their follow up album Circle of Shame? Does it come even close to the quality of the debut?

I only played it once around the time I made that post but it was also pretty cool - maybe not as good as that one but fun. I should try it again soon. Thanks for the reminder. Try Claws of Steel and Hell & Fury sometime soon too.

Thanks you for the recs, I'll give them a shot after I'm done playing the Mystery Blue debut the 100th time!

I'd place D&W 1st, MAGICIAN'S 2nd and ABOMINOG 3rd!

after that, as Ted Nugent once said, "It's a Free for All!"

Menhir - Hildebrandslied

Simple and magnificient. I am picky when it comes to folk influenced metal bands, but when the mix works it's incredible.

Echoes of Eternity - Towers of Silence

Picked this up based on art / packaging in a shop called Fye, while on holiday in the US. Figured I'd be getting Sirenia / Visions of Atlantis based on the album art / band photo - statue with blood, swirly font, chesty woman in a corset.

Nope, got some heavy Madder Mortem / old-Leave's Eyes mashup, and it's very very good.

Abominog works, for the most part. Too Scared to Run is one of their best songs.

Saint Vitus - Die Healing

Reminds me to get the rest of their albums.

Sentenced - The Funeral Album

I remembered this album was far worse than what came before it, but it's not that bad. Some good tracks, especially at the beginning.

Melvins - Stoner Witch

A great album by them from this era.

Jesus Piece - Sinking

I'm a sucker for some beatdown hardcore, and this band puts out some of the most enjoyable beatdown in my opinion. Nasty stuff you can mosh hard to, and that's why I love it.

Malokarpatan - Kýho besa mi to tá stará ohyzdná striga do pohára nalála

Really cool band.
Black Heavy Metal, filleld with the feelings of old slavik woodland.
I still enjoy the second album a bit more, very curious about the new album!

It’s a pretty depressing time with Corona virus and all ( do we have a band named COVID 19 yet? lol)

So it’s all Funeral Doom on a menu today. Started off with my fave, Ahab “The call of the wretched sea” and now going through my numero uno FD band, Esoteric. Very appropriate!

That Ahab album is amazing, actually the album that got me into funeral doom.

After Forever - Come

Man, Floor Jansen is such an immense fucking talent. I wish I liked newer Nightwish better. But After Forever and ReVamp were fucking cool. Hard hitting, punchy and yet elegant.

ReVamp - Wild Card

Hadn't heard this one. Pretty dense sounding stuff. Seems real intense for the standards of this style of music. Lyrics seem inspired and intriguing. There's a lot going on in this - it's almost kind of overwhelming even. Really fucking involved and complex writing. Way more like some of the tech-prog bands of the late 00s than any corset-types of metal.

Blind Guardian - Time What Is Time

"Somewhere Far Beyond", "Tales From the Twilight World" and "Nightfall in Middle-Earth" are constantly duking it out in my head for favorite Blind Guardian album. Lately, I've been in the mood for "Somewhere Far Beyond". Really great guitar work, vocal melodies and hooks.

If I remember right, a lot of this album was inspired by a burnout Floor suffered. And yeah, Revamp reminded me more of stuff like Evergrey than Delain. I'm glad I got to see them once, even if it was just a 30 minute opening set. I will forever regret never seeing After Forever...

Yeah, it's cool that she got such an inspired album out of it. My head was spinning. I figured it'd be an easier-listening sort of pop metal, but nope.

Blind Illusion - Kamikazi

I said Beherit was sometimes the only band I'd ever need from BM, and this is kind of like that but for thrash. I love the joyously weird feel of this and the inventive instrumentation. Every riff fucking slays too.

Beneath the Massacre - Society's Disposable Son

Haven't listened to this in ages, and instantly this song is all the bad things about late 2000s tech death rolled into one.

Nightwish - Crownless

You know, "Wishmaster" is probably my least favorite of the Tarja-era albums, but it's still got plenty of songs I love on it - like this one. Some of the vocal melodies during the verses remind me of Bad Religion, which...uh, well, is not something I think of too much when listening to this kind of music for the most part. Now I want Bad Religion to do a power metal album. Anyway, yeah, fun song.

Ignominious Incarceration - Of Winter Born album

Pretty good modern death metal! Bought it from Earache sale without much hearing the music. But, a good find IMO.

Due to working-from-home (honest...) I've been playing them through by total coincidence. Just got to Somewhere in Time.

So - Caught Somewhere in Time - one of my absolute favourite Iron Maiden songs. Seven-and-a-half minutes long, it starts up, gets going and just. keeps. going. For something so complex in terms of the guitar work to be so fast ? That series of synth-drenched solos ? Bruce out-wailing every power metal vocalist ever ?

Ah, they don't make them like THAT any more !

I've been playing a bunch of old cult shit from the 80s but yeah, Maiden were so far ahead of everyone that it's no surprise they got big. They just had the "it" factor. I'm due to play some again soon, too.

Conception - No Rewind

It's so gratifying to have more good music with Roy Khan singing. This is a delightful piece of work. Mysterious and gloomy and evocative.

Guess I am jumping on a bandwagon and playing Iron Maiden's debut, haha. The album which together with Accept's Breaker responsible for turning me into metal in early 80s. Grand memories!!!
