ITT bands who played "deathrash", a form of metal that rides the border vocally and instrumentally on death metal and thrash metal.
Album examples: "Seven Churches" and "Beyond the Gates" by Possessed, "Schizophrenia" by Sepultura, "Into The Abyss" by Poison, "Malleus Maleficarium" by Pestilence, "Кровоизлияние" by Аспид, and "Master" by Master.

Awesome! One of my favorite subgenres. Sometimes the line is blurred between thrash and death (Arise...) but that's absolutely fine by me. I welcome any suggestions personally!

some of my favorite stuff off the top of my head:

Morbid Saint, Num Skull, Merciless, Malevolent Creation's first, Sadus, Protector, Demolition Hammer, Devastation and of course fucking Deceased... That kind of stuff REALLY tickles my fancy.

There are some great newer deathrash bands that I really like, like Ripper from Chile (their new EP is a fantastic tech-deaththrash release btw), Sakrificer, Rapture, Maligner or Deathraiser.

Hypnosia's great! And playing that style before it was cool again... Such a shame about the drummer...

Ripping Corpse - Dreaming With the Dead

Such a strange, yet brilliant and audacious brand of death/thrash. I've yet to hear anything quite like it.

Oh yeah, I love the style.

Incubus' Beyond the Unknown may be the best album out of them all. The moralistic lyrics in some songs are annoying, but not that important to me. It's just a fantastic record with tons of ass-kicking riffs; and the way these guys weaved them together into seamless wholes is a sight to behold.

Another old school gem is Revenant's Prophecies of a Dying World.

As for something more recent, Torture Squad stands out, particularly Pandemonium, along with Yyrkoon (Occult Medicine and Unhealthy Opera albums) and the mighty Scythian whose Hubris in Excelsis just may be the best record in this entire decade. One of the best for me no doubt.

I'd argue plenty of these albums that got mentioned already (second Possessed, Demolition Hammer's stuff) were just gruff, brutal thrash, but anyway, Vulcano's Bloody Vengeance should be a good pick for this thread. The album reminds me as much of Pleasure to Kill era Kreator, as it does of early Slayer any plenty of ''war metal bands'' that came out several years later! Definitely one of the craziest album of 1986.

I listen to a lot of this stuff. The list of bands that do this well would be pretty long, but here is a good start.

Repugnant (One of the post 2000 bands that released one album of dirty/death thrash, and very much in the Swedish vein, and they are Swedish)

Merciless (Been around since the 80s, but still going, though only a few albums out)

Grotesque (Swedish band, and vocalist formed At the Gates after they split up. I much prefer Grotesque over At the Gates.

Oraculum (One of my favorite of the newcomers. Dirty death/thrash from Chile and they fit in with what a lot of the other South American bands have been doing.)

Massacra. Enjoy the Violence is one of the best in my opinion

Agressor from France is very fast and Slayerish.

If you like early Sepultura then check out the other South American bands playing in a similar style that blurs the lines between black, death, and thrash. Mutilator, Vulcano, Sarcofago, Holocausto, and Chakal (first album) are some good ones. Cogumello records has a lot of good stuff in this style.

Texas had a good scene for brutal thrash metal that overlapped a bit with death metal as well. Devastation, Torture, Morbid Scream, and Rigor Mortis being some of the more notable ones.

Num Skull's RItually Abused is a great album of fast and relentless death/thrash.

Sadus is one of the obvious ones that I did not see mentioned. Very fast death/thrash and Steve Diorgio (From Death) does a fantastic job on bass. Like Pestilence they went into a more technical direction over time. I like their early stuff the best personally, but their more technical stuff is great too.

I personally quite enjoy the Dutch band Thanatos when it comes to Deathrash. Frightmare might also be an interesting band, though it's not your average Deathrash; they incorporate a lot more grind influence than usual.

Thanatos:

Incubus (later to change their name to Opprobrium) probably fits neatly in here. Their first two albums Serpent Temptations and Beyond the Unknown I would consider great in that middle ground between death and thrash (maybe leaning a bit more towards the latter). The first two bands that popped into my head, Morbid Saint and Demolition Hammer, were already mentioned.

Most of my favorites have been posted, Sepultura being the best ever and Thanatos and Massacra also being killer. Attomica's second album is pretty intense, and I know they're not highly regarded by some here but Dew-Scented have a huge catalogue of what I consider pretty good fuckin quality deathrash. They broke up not too long ago but I really think their worst album is just ok, while Impact and Issue VI are really killer.

Torture Squad's already been mentioned, but here's some links.

This song has an odd intro, but it really kicks in @ 1:30

Occult/Legion Of The Dammed is great too.

My personal favorite Death/Thrash album is Tapping The Vein by Sodom

They're more typically just straight Thrash, but for this record they really went ballistic. I've always seen it as a great companion to Sepultura's Arise.

That Deathchain album and their debut are probably their best releases. Amazing pounding deathrash!

What I would love to see is some more deathrash like the beyond amazing Merciless debut "The Awakening" - viciously pounding, thrashy as hell and raw!

I just heard Solstice, the US death/thrash band, not the British doom band, and they were pretty cool. Nobody mentioned them yet. Two of the guys quit after the first album to join Malevolent Creation.

Pentagram Chile “The Malifice” 2CD + “Under The Spell Of The Pentagram” CD/DVD Comp
Criminal “Sicario”
Insanity “Death After Death” 2CD + “From The Grave” Comp
Slaughter Lord “Thrash ‘til Death ‘86-‘87” Comp
Mefisto “The Megalomania Puzzle” Comp
Necrodeath “Into The Macabre” + “Fragments Of Insanity”
Slaughter “Strappado” 2CD
Strappado “Fatal Judgement” 2CD

One of my favourite sub- genres and I really like that transitional period between thrash and death, when it was hard to define what was what. Thrash ‘ til Death!

No love for Cerebral Fix? I've always considered them death/thrash, and one of the better UK thrash bands in general. "Tower of Spite" and "Bastards" are great albums, and even "Death Erotica" was pretty decent. The only thing that lets them down in my opinion is the inclusion of various pointless cover songs.

Cerebral Fix were great and I agree that they are death/thrash, but interestingly they are classified only as Crossover/Thrash on their page here, which fits the first album, but Death needs to be added into the description (in my opinion) for the others. Bastards is my favourite of theirs, closely followed by Tower Of Spite. Loved the Celtic Frost influences in the riffing department. I agree too that they shouldn’t have had those covers on Bastards and Death Erotica in particular, they loosened things up when they should have kept the foot on the throat.

I would suggest Power Trip for this genre. Their 2017 release Nightmare Logic and the rest of their work has some pretty clear homages to early slayer and other thrash sounds of the early 90's late 80's. The death influences are less prevalent, but can show up in the rhythm section and drumming approach. Solid stuff for sure.

Cabal “Midian” Is a very cool album recorded in 1990 featuring Killjoy on vocals. Viscous and violent death thrash that should appeal to any fans of the other bands in this thread.

In case anyone else didn't know about this, Ripping Corpse have their first 3 demos and Dreaming With The Dead on Bandcamp for free download. Dreaming has a bonus track "Exhumation Day" which was recorded at the same time.

Massacre and Burial aren’t death/thrash, they’re straight up death metal in my book. But I dug the rest of your recs some I’ve checked out before (Overthrow and Silent Scream) but I hadn’t heard the bottom 3 on your list. Sacrificial and Nocturn are pretty good definitely worth a listen or more.
