I've started learning Norwegian over the last month and it strikes me that all of the bands I know who sing in Norwegian use at least 50% harsh vocals. As both a general curiosity and to keep the language in my ears, what are some quality melodic metal bands that sing mostly (or entirely) in Norwegian? My preferences would be towards anything prog, doom or power metal but as long as it's metal and contains predominantly clean Norwegian vocals I'm good.

Although most of their stuff is in English, The 3rd And The Mortal had a few songs in Norwegian.

And Ulver's acoustic neofolk album "Kveldssanger" should be essential. Not metal though, obviously.

Already a fan of both but good shouts. I do tend to forget about the Norwegian tracks by The 3rd and the Mortal so that was a good reminder.

Storm is the obvious choice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgxxC7DCR2w

Isengard is also relevant. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFw0skH8JQg&t=22s

Check out Burzum's "Umskiptar".

If you like early 3rd & Mortal, you'll also like Skumring. Nice album, buy it.

Seigmen's Metropolis (the original version) is a good album with clean vocals in norwegian, on the really light side of metal. that band it's pretty much forgotten outside their own home country, but they have some good stuff

The band Glittertind immediately sprang to my mind. They sometimes sing in English, but they usually sing in Norwegian. I'm only familiar with their album Landkjenning. It's not the heaviest album ever, but you'll hear some cleanly sung Norwegian for sure.

These "nationalistic" metal bands (i.e. viking/folk) usually don't sing with contemporary grammar or phrasing, and sometimes in a dialect you won't find very easy to understand.

I can't really think of any other band than Black Debbath. It's a humerous band, singing about contemporary culture and sociopolitical topics etc, often satirical and "stupid" topics, but they might fit your needs anyway. They sing quite clearly in a modern Oslo dialect.

Excellenz band, but I think Total is their strongest album.

Seigmen's first two are good, and yes they aren't very well known among metal listeners. Their debut is gothic / thrash and Total is closer to gothic metal / rock.

The 9 minutes long Bak De Sjv Fjell 7" is the answer to your questions. If you like the first Ulver, you will adore this one too.
