For one reason or another, this band just doesn't click for me. I've tried so many times. I've had this album on all night and my attention keeps drifting.

Not even Ample Destruction?

Falconer - The Clarion Call

Still can't quit this album after over a week... it's just so damn satisfying. The band sounds confident and cool and every aspect of it has clearly had work and thought put in. I really value any art like that.

Domine - Dragonlord (The Grand Master of the Mightiest Beasts)

Not a Bal-Sagoth track with that title, this is pure Italian power metal gold. A nice epic 7-minuter about Elric of Melnibone and his dragons. Excellent stuff. Think Rhapsody-type epic power metal.

Bilskirnir - Atavismus des Glaubens

Catchy and prideful stuff.
Always enjoy this band.

Falconer - Long Gone By (Acoustic Ver.)

This album is so good, it features acoustic versions of old songs that feel absolutely vital instead of disposable.

I haven't heard that one. I've only heard The Fourth Judgement and Thane To The Throne plus a few songs here and there like Iron Eagle.

Systematic - The Beginning Of The End

These guys were signed to Lars Ulrich's short lived label. They got grouped in with Nu Metal because of the time and the fact that they did some tours like Godsmack, etc. It's mostly a pretty good dose of hard rock. I actually caught them live once back in 2001 and they were quite good live. This might be pure nostalgia for me, but I still dig about 6 songs on their first album.

Still blown away by how much fun and how good that record is. She Dragoon and By The Blues are my favs but there are no bad tracks.

:np: Midnight Priest - Funeral

Nice throwback metal. Dig it.

AD is a totally different style and much more aggressive and classic 80s metal. They became slightly more proggy and melodic later on. For me AD is just about the best you can get with that old classic metal style.

I do like their recent stuff since Casting the Stones a lot too though...

Excalion - Ivory Tower

This is pretty much classic to me at this point. Had it since it came out.

Vader - Tibi Et Igni

One of my favorite Vader albums, the pummeling riffs combined with the more epic moments truly make this a standout in their discography

Ensiferum- The Defense of the Sampo

Man this is a fantastic song. Besides a couple of misses the album rocks.

Cradle of Filth - Midnight Shadows Crawl to Darken Counsel With Their Lives

Goddamn, that title's a mouthful.
Anyway, "Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder" has been growing on me lately. I wasn't too keen on it before and it still doesn't match up to the classic stuff (or their two most recent albums) but it's enjoyable.

Godspeed is a great album!

Goth rock, post punk stuff.
Really good.

Anata - The Conductor's Departure

Cream of the crop as far as technical death metal goes. Only they could make this sub-genre sound so emotive, and the musicianship is absolutely nuts, in particular the multitude of catchy riffs and Conny Pettersson's drumming, the latter of which is absolutely bonkers. He should be up there with George Kollias and John Longstreth, such an underrated drummer.

Still holding out hope that we will see album number five someday (probably not at this rate :( )

Siege Social - Les vingt-huit commandements.

Great avant-garde deathgrind. Definitely happy with this find. It's available for listening on my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQheswl8Du8

This was definitely a favorite of mine, and fairly popular "back in the day", but it seems like people have mostly forgotten about them since they've haven't really released anything since it. The toms are really unique sounding too, almost like lower-pitched octo-bans.

NP: Lights - "Dead End"

A lot of people here will not be into this, but as far as I'm concerned this is modern electro-pop perfection. Insanely hooky, particularly the second half, I can't stop listening to it.

But to balance it out...

Dark Throne - "Grave With a View"

Kind of underrated compared to their later black metal material. The proto-Norwegian sound through a Swedish filter is really quite gripping though.

Foreigner - Anthology: Jukebox Heroes (LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Megadeth - Thirteen (pretty good! Dave sounds (sounded) angry again!)
Priestess - Hello Master (Cool!)
V/A - 25 British Psychedelic Artifacts from the EMI Vaults (A very mixed bag, but I certainly like some of it).
Deep Purple - Stormbringer (2 CD Edition) (Not their best album, but the title track is CLASSIC).

"Love will tear us apart again" by Joy Division.

Hmmm, I better go listen to some metal now or I'll lose my cred...

Iron Maiden - Gates of Tomorrow

My dead stereos still apparently play Maiden. And that is just enough! In a way Bruce and his company performed a successful necromancy here.

Paul Chain - Roses of Winter

This is exactly my kind of groovy, classic metal infused doom. Pretty sweet.

edit: There's something really cool about this whole thing - some of the riffs are more standard, but the writing comes off mystical and enchanting. Rolls along like a fog. Some cool leads too.

No need, we have a stronger gothic rock/post-punk contingent here than I expected. The song makes me want to watch Donnie Darko again, actually.

I'm much more selective about metal I listen to circa '90 or earlier, but this is about as good as it gets.

NP: Phlebotomized - "Dubbed Foreswearer"

I hate the guitar tone, and the whole production vibe isn't what I'm normally into, but the writing and arrangements of instrumentation are amazing.

Archspire - Relentless Mutation

This one took a while to click. I liked it when I first listened to it and I knew it was good, but for some reason I didn't have the urge to listen to it again. Personally I always need one certain aspect of an album to make me want to listen to it again, after which the other aspects become more apparent and keep me hooked on the album. Usually it's a certain melody, but for Relentless Mutation I finally found it to be the vocals. They're extremely fast of course, but the execution truly makes them amazing. So I'm listening to the album again mainly for the vocals, but now the instrumentation is growing on me too and I have a feeling that this is going to be one of my favourite albums.

I don't listen to much actual goth stuff, but I look very much like a goth, does it count? =D

Gotta love the Flowing Tears cover of this song, BTW.

Okay, I understand what you mean, but it does add to the charm IMO. Their recent comeback somehow didn't feel as breathtaking, and I can't exactly pinpoint why, but the production is definitely different...

...I'm apparently never listening to anything when I'm on the forums!
