Playing Venom - Welcome to Hell.

Had this vinyl forever but rarely listen to it. My opinion is that Witching Hour, Welcome to Hell, One Thousand Days In Sodom are pretty strong. The rest is pretty much meh. A 55% rating probably. Can't deny the influence but I'd rather listen to Midnight.

To continue the Edguy chat from the previous page: Hellfire Club is a total summer album for me. It came out in spring of 2004, but that summer me, my brother and a friend played the shit out of it. I remember going on a roadtrip through Northern Michigan blasting the CD on the car stereo start-to-finish. A great memory.

Edguy is pretty upbeat for sure. I think it will be a regular on my morning walks for a while.

It always had an autumnal sound to me - I just remember playing Piper Never Dies during the particularly fall-ish parts of the year as a kid. Rocket Ride, I got when it came out, and that was always a summer album.

Paradise Lost - Darker Thoughts

Bit of a rainy, damp evening so throwing this on...

Weird how that works, depending on everyones individual experience. I can almost FEEL the heat of the Chevy Cavaliere with no air conditioning we were travelling in when I hear songs like Navigator.

Those might be my faves from the album too. But I think it's strong through out.

Angel Witch - Atlantis

Top 3 NWoBHM album, no question. Of the ones I've heard, of course.

Totally! I've recently been exploring more NWOBHM beyond the big names. There are SO MANY. It's crazy how many records came out in such a short period of time back then.

You're right. I like stuff such as Legend, Quartz, Holocaust and Satan. That's how underground I've gone. Still so many good bands to find.

Anathema - Lost Control

That's the most emotionally intense song ever recorded by a metal band, for me there's no debate about it.

GWAR - Gor Gor

Found a copy of America Must Be Destroyed so listening to the Gor Gor duology. Powerful life affirming music. Makes you laugh, makes you cry. A triumph of the human spirit.

Dio - Jesus, Mary & the Holy Ghost

Strange Highways is such a good album, dark and really heavy!

Vortex - Colours Out From The Emptiness

I mentioned this album some time ago, but I had not yet listened to it in full at that time. This album definitely gets better with every listen. The production/sound is amazing.
One of the best guitar tones I've ever heard and possibly the best kick drums I've ever heard. The riffing is great and the jazzy parts are very well done. It does kind of sound like later Death sometimes, but overall this album is very unique. Definitely one of my favourite hidden gems. Seriously, these guys are obscure for no good reason.

Morbid Angel - Maze of Torment

The sheer savagery on display here is still so damn mindblowing. The band sounds like they're really just possessed and insane.

Black Sabbath - Zero the Hero

This song is centered around a rather tasty doom riff. I love the guitar sound on this album! I am also one of those who find Ian Gillan's wailing a bit grating, so him doing a darker "tough" style just makes it better.

That song's SO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Crazy Lixx - Girls of the 80's

Miles less greasy than Steel Panther (but still a joke) - it's like Whitesnake, Poison, and the Crue got together to make a song about the girls in their videos :D

I just heard Steel Panther for the first time this week- the lyrics were FAR TOO STUPID for me. It seems a waste of their talent- the singer can sing and the other guys can play, but they went FAR over the "fine line between clever and stupid".

I - Mountains

Abbath at his peak. More bands should try this hybrid of black metal and traditional heavy, i feel that's a lot of room to explore

It's the best song off that album, but I'd easily nominate ''Restless Oblivion'' or ''A Dying Wish'' as Anathema's most emotional track.

NP: Paradise Lost - Ravenghast

Helloween-suited doom/death metal; creepy and heavy shit right here.

Virgin Steele - Invictus

Most listened album as of late. Just love the whole of it.

Mörk Gryning - Tusen år har gått...

Still had this one. Now that they're coming back, I have to refresh my memories of them. Very nice melodies here and there. Tasteful synths too.

Pain of Salvation - Inside

This is really quite emotionally heavy music. Not really a summer fun album at all. But for prog it's just got that erudite, adventurous quality - much different than most other bands in the genre, as it should be. Gildenlow is inimical.

Roadrunner United - Dawn of a Golden Age

A random ass black metal song in the middle of this 77 minute long record of mostly butt metal. There's also a random death metal song with Glen Benton and James Murphy on it as well earlier in the tracklist.

I think this album is an underrated masterpiece and his greatest solo album.

Desperately needs more love. Dio changed with the times and made it work!

Bal Sagoth - Naked Steel

I needed to balance this out with some non-metal stuff, but there's a real case for this being an absolutely essential fucking metal band. They are like everything over the top and awesome embodied.

Morbid Angel - Pain Divine

Switching gears, but yeah, a death metal classic now. Just utterly depraved violent stuff. It came from insane minds.
