I was actually kind of disappointed in Vintage Vinyl in Fords, NJ this past weekend. Yes, they have a metal section and even a seperate Black Metal section. The viny metal section was really lacking. Quite a bit of empty tabs, where there was actually nothing at all for that artist. There was actually nothing at all for Napalm Death, Deicide or Morbid Angel among others. I havent been there in a while and I'm not really sure what happened. Really sucked. Even though I live in NJ, it is a bit of a haul for me being in soutern NJ.

Scratch 'n Spin in Columbia, SC has some great finds now and then for those near here that are unaware of it. I bought the first three Saturnus albums from there (all 1st pressings) for only $36 altogether.

Amoeba music is killer. If you've been to the Amoeba in SF but not the LA one, the LA one is much bigger and has a much better selection. I haven't been to the Berkeley location so I can't compare to that one. Amoeba deals with all genres though, and metal is just a small slice of their selection. But for a brick and mortar store that does all genres, I have no complaints at all.

If you want to make a little trek to Downey (I think it took me like an hour or so from LA) there's Dark Realm Records which is a small shop that deals mostly with death and black metal. I've found stuff of other metal genres there too, especially folk/pagan. They also got a good selection of merch.

This is a bit of a long shot; I'm trying to remember the name of a store I visited whilst on exchange trips to Germany in 1992 and 1993. I'm fairly sure it was in Köln, but there is a possibility it may have been in Aachen, since we also visited there.

It was a large multi-floor department store, selling electrical goods, clothes, household stuff etc, but it also had a good sized music department in the basement, with a decent Metal section. I bought some of my first death metal tapes there.

I remember the security was quite tight; you had to leave bags and rucksacks in lockers at the entrance.

Does this ring a bell with anyone?

The best and the biggest in entire Toronto is Sonic Boom at 215 Spadina Avenue in downtown. But make no mistake, its not exactly Montreal when it comes to Metal.

Back in the early 00s when I used to shop there, that place was amazing. They had almost everything, and tons of underground releases you would never expect to find.

It does seem like more recently, judging from what little shows in stock on their website, that their selection has really started to become not so special. I’m not sure if that’s due to the times we're in and people not spending what they used to on physical media, or if it’s because a lot of the metalheads that used to work there have left. In either case it’s a shame.

Any good metal records shops in Jacksonville, Florida? I usually get my music stuff online, but I would love to see what Jacksonville has in terms of metal shops.

Anything in Colorado around Louisville, Lafayette and/or Superior? closest thing i know of to a metal shop is all the way in Boulder and all I could find to my fancy there was a tomb mold and blood incantation vinyl, both of which I already have on CD lmao.

Bristol, UK has just had a new record shop open in the city centre today! It's called Black City Records, filled with a selection of vinyl from across the metal spectrum.

Good afternoon all, I'm new here, from France.

Do you know metal disc shops in Strasbourg or Alsace, in France? I mostly like CDs and want to find bands I can't find on my discshops.

Phoenix, AZ is down to Zia Records now I think. We used to have an AWESOME metal store called "Metal Devastation" here and at one point they were doing so well they opened up a second location. Then the internet hit hard in the mid 2000s and people stopped buying music and they closed. There are multiple Zia locations but the ones on 19th Ave and Camelback and 25th Ave and Thunderbird are the two best locations. They price very fairly and I have on several occasions found LPs cheaper there than online. Most that live around here know Zia but maybe someone from out of town won't...

Not necessarily looking for a metal shop, but I moved to the twin cities MN area about a year ago and would like to get into the scene more with particular interest in black and death metal. Does anyone have any recommendations for the area (metal bars/ venues/ record shops)?

For California, if anyone is looking in Los Angeles or Orange County, then I highly recommend either Bionic Records in Buena Park or Radiation Records in Fullerton. Their metal selections are both excellent and cater to a lot of underground bands.

For venues the obvious ones are The Cabooze, Club Underground, The Amsterdam, Whiskey Junction, and The Garage (mostly for younger bands). The Cities have a super vibrant metal scene, you should be able to find your corner of it very easily.

As for record stores... Cheapo has locations in St. Paul, Minneapolis, and Blaine that always have great selections. Agharta in St. Paul is another one that gets a lot of praise, plus White Bear Lake Records out in the suburbs. Extreme Noise in Minneapolis is primarily a punk clothing and record store, but they've been featuring a lot more metal-friendly stuff lately.

Thank you for this. I used to briefly live in Irvine, and not only could I not find a metal shop, I couldn't find one single CD store anywhere near there. Any time I felt the need to go brick-and-mortar CD shopping I took the 2 hour trek to L.A. for Amoeba, and Amoeba was the only one I could find in the L.A. / Orange County area other than a small shop in Downey which is pretty cool to go to like once every blue moon. I can't remember the name of the shop at the moment. The owner's super cool though.

If you ever find yourself in Copenhagen, Denmark, I'd recommend swinging by Extremely Rotten and Mephisto.

Extremely Rotten is mostly death metal and related genres, run by David Mikkelsen from Undergang.
Mephisto is run by the guy behind the Deadbangers label, and they've got tons of metal, horror movies on various formats, books, curiosities and comics.

Hi,

I'll be traveling to London in a week and I'm looking for record stores that have a proper amount of underground/90s/raw black metal. If anyone could recommend me a shop: Thanks!

I miss metal devastation so much. Other then Zia records if you want metal shirts or patches, I recommend Shirts N Things near Mesa community college . Great place to get t shirts and patches.

Any metal shops or bars in Newcastle Upon Tyne? I've been up here a few years now and been to one gig, basically dead in terms of gigs, but wondering if there's anything else out there?

San Diego area:

Reanimated Records in downtown La Mesa always has a lot of really great metal. They also stock a lot of great punk, too!

Luckily, Metal Devastation still run an online store, and I get stuff from them still pretty often!

Regarding bars, Always Rock on Inkilap Street (not recommended), and Papaz (too smoky) on Sakarya St. Also, Blackn Roll is around Tunali.
IDK about shops. Well, I mean there is one actually around Tunali...thinking about its name, hah Heavy Craft on Büklüm St.
