a slightly more poppy approach and very different vocals, courtesy of Håkan Hemlin of Nordman, but this is still recognizably Amorphis :D

let's not think why the band's main songwriter would go solo right now :/ I hope it's just because of having extra time bcs of the covid killing the touring etc.

Can't be bothered to find the source at the moment, but I'm fairly certain I read that Esa just had a bunch of songs burning a hole in his pocket that didn't quite fit with Amorphis, so seems that this is his outlet to release those songs.

Regarding the actual song: despite not being particularly fond of lighter rock like this typically, that chorus has an undeniable energy to it. Hopefully the rest of the album is of this quality as well.

Wouldn't Santeri Kallio be the main Amo songwriter these days, though?

The band is otherwise doing quite fine creatively, a new album is being mixed, but surely all of them could use more money. Apparently Joutsen has taken up his social worker kinda job again, but Holopainen doesn't seem to have such a luxury =))

Oh shit, I read the title and thought you meant he left Amorphis.

Song was pleasant.

There are enough Amorphis-isms there that I'm now a little disappointed that we don't have it with a Joutsen vocal. That's the catch-22 for side projects, sometimes they're better if they sound nothing like the primary band so comparing doesn't even make sense, and other times if it's a similar sound but with a replacement member or two (particularly vocalists) more simpatico to your tastes it can be intriguing.

Not a fan of Amorphis, but I really, really like Håkan Hemlin. Had he been singing on the whole album I would have bought it instantly!

There will be Renkse instead. On two tracks IIRC.

Amorphis recently recorded some new stuff, so he's definitely not leaving them (and I'm quite thankful for that).

Also, yes, for what this is it's pretty good. Not sure if it's something I'd put on all the time, but it's a nice change of pace.

Wow, Renkse, Strid, Giersbergen, Joutsen, that's a stacked lineup.

What strange vocals. I don't mind them at all, and the song is chill, but he's got a weird voice.

Solberg's track is up. I'm part of the minority that doesn't like his voice that much, but the melodies are nice, and the video's dreamlike direction is great.

Muuuuuch prefer this to the other one. Can see why his voice might not gel with everyone, but I prefer the vocals here to the other single.

These two songs posted here sound really excellent. I'm going to pick this one up.

What's wrong with the town? For what I read (interesting interview btw) it's a poor town with a serious problem of alcoholism.

Did everyone (including me) just totally forget that this came out a couple weeks after the last post? I remembered it briefly maybe a month ago and kept putting it off in my listening cue because I hadn't remembered what a loaded vocal guest lineup it has. I finally just got through it and it's quite good. Nothing revolutionary, just a lot of pleasant tunes and performances, it'll certainly be a higher-tier contender on my non-metal list of the year.

It feels weird to quote yourself, but present me can inform past me that the Joutsen track is pretty good, and wouldn't really be out of place on an Amorphis album.

This track with Anneke might be the other standout, though the big-name tracks are the ones I gravitated towards.

It's a fantastic release (which is no surprise based on who its creator is)!
