Tarot was the first metal band I heard and Hietala's who got me into Nightwish.

Now he's gone and Nightwish is pretty much dead. I've just listened to their performance of Planet Hell without him and cover bands do better.

I looked up the Nightwish singers, Tarja Turunen and Anette Olzon's The Dark Element band both have songs I like, but I've already heard those a lot of times. I did try to get into Floor Jansen but her singing is too emotionless to me; the few After Forever songs I checked bored me. (I keep reading she's being toned down in Nightwish, so if a Floor fan could show me a non-Nightwish live performance from her where she's actually great, that would change my mind about her. The only good NW song performance I heard from her was Song of Myself, but even that one was carried by Hietala.)

Does anyone know anything about Marko's future performances, if any, and could you recommend me bands similar to Tarot, artists similar to Hietala?
I don't have a genre preference. I generally don't like cheerful music and focus on the singing over instruments. I used to listen to bands like Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Metallica.

There's no band I know of that is truly similar to Tarot.

You could try Teräsbetoni and Jarkko Ahola's solo work, if you haven't heard that yet. He's sort of a Hietala clone in terms of vocals.

The new Excalion albums are musically pretty different, but the singer can do a pretty solid Hietala impression especially on 'Emotions.'
