Back in the day, THIS is what selling out was, rather than changing your music style to be more commercially palatable. I mean the latter definitely happened, but it's not what made fans cry "sellout!"

Rob Halford rules. I dig it. As far as I am concerned Halford cannot "sell out" at this point. Dude has earned the right to have fun and do whatever.

Yeah, same thoughts. Halford is one of the greats and at this point and he's earned his free pass to do whatever the hell he wants.

Younger generations just care less about the concept of selling out in general. Being millennials, we're used to the economy being so dire that there's really nothing to say except "I respect the hustle, get paid."

At least it's not as cringe inducing as Chris Barnes' commercial for Park Auto Mall. But it's up there.

But hey, with music not being as profitable as it used to, I don't blame him for milking it for all its worth.

Halford is just cool. Can't blame him. Just like Lemmy advertising milk around here in his old days. Younger people are probably wondering who the hell they are.

Halford is beyond selling out. The dude's 70 years old and a metal legend so he can do what he wants. I for one thought the commercial was kinda funny though definitely really cringey as well. He looks like he's having fun with it at least.

When you put a claim in they play the chorus to the following song over the phone to you before hanging up.

The whole concept of "selling out" is such bullshit in my opinion. Everyone needs to make a living, even rockstars. That being said, the only people that I would see it strange to "sell out" would be someone like Varg Vikernes, like, if he started doing infomercials or something. Considering he made it his life's work to promote traditional European values and lifestyle instead of modern progress and hedonism.

I remember that car commercial with Falconer but it wasn't actually Falconer, just some stand in band members "playing" Falconer's song.

I'm fine with Halford doing this, because he's a legend, but fuck the "I respect the hustle, get paid" garbage.

Haha!

I wonder why a fake band is in the background playing the song?

Regardless, it's pretty shocking for me to see them in a car commercial.

I guarantee I've never met anyone in real life who has any idea who they are.

The head office is in a converted church on Walsall high street. The next commercial will say: Look for the cathedral spires!

I'm surprised all Rob got was a local insurance commercial. Europe and Ratt both did Geico ads that were national.

Heck, while we're at it, let's have a Judas Priest-themed drug store. They'll make really good painkillers in case if you're spent too long out in the cold.

Obvious ad for a law firm and one of their most recognized songs....could make for an entertaining commercial.

Does anyone remember when Halford showed up on American Idol? There were a few people on here that were pissed, it was funny.

Honestly it's pretty funny! Something about that couple having legit conversations about insurance while he's just grooving on his own in their living room makes me laugh. Halford's great; it's impossible for him to sell out at this point. Let him do what he wants!

This thread needs this classic:
Spoiler: show

As a side note, I can't believe any people were shocked when came out ten years later.

Also remembered about this one with Hammerfall, which is actually pretty cool:

Spoiler: show

IIRC they also had a couple videos that were basically ads, for some contact lens manufacturer or something like that.

Eh, selling out? Maybe, but I honestly don't really give a shit. Man's gotta get paid somehow, and him being in an insurance commercial isn't going to ruin my enjoyment of Judas Priest.

I don't think that a man who's got nothing to prove and who's had a long, excessively succesful career can do anything that I'd consider "selling out". He could duet with Billy EIlish, Kanye or the Wiggles and he'd still be Rob fucking Halford.

If you wanna talk about selling out, GWAR would be a stronger example. They've been doing it for decades.

Meanwhile Judas Priest had to cancel their tour due to Richie Faulkner having "major heart issues":

how?

They were on Beavis and Butthead for fucks sake. They did commercials for video game retailers.

It's funny, I once watched this video called "10 reasons to be a GWAR fan" and I found it funny how the youtuber running the channel was trying to convince me how cool they are because of how much stuff like that.

Notice how "the music" is only on the 10th part of this guy's list instead of the 1st?

nah, lots of bands were on B&BH... and a band who dress up like alien sex organs can't really sell out, unless they write a song for a politician or so...

making cheesy and entirely irrelevant ads for home insurance on the other hand quite bugs me... :/

I don't think you can sell out when you're already the 4th biggest metal band ever.

Faulkner appears to have had a heart attack and was close to death (see his sister’s comment on the JP facebook page). That is terrible news. Be a long way back for him and JP if that is what has happened.
