Punk and Disorderly

What a comp. Great snapshot of UK81, punk was definitely not dead at all. What a time for music, the UK punk and metal scenes at this time were amazing.

In the car stereo:

Mordred - The Dark Parade

Fuckin cool comeback album, I'm really connecting with this.

Necrowretch - Putrid Death Sorcery

This whole thing just feels slimy and gross. I love it.

Richie Kotzen - I Am the Clown

This guy really got some mad chops on so many instruments, including vocals...can only recommend his recent collab with Adrian Smith!

Steel Bearing Hand- Slay in Hell.

Oh baby...blackened death / thrash with doom and traditional metal riffs? Yes please! I'm utterly fucking loving this; just riffs and evil for days!

I'm still convinced this is a cool bluesy rock track, but it remains hard to listen to with David DeFeis' annoying vocal lines and auto-tuned effects. This guy has really become his own enemy over the years.

all of the songs on Ghost Harvest 1 are really good (not counting the covers) if you can get past the laughable demo-level production and sometimes grating vocals. "Feral" and "Justine" are fucking incredible songs in particular.

"Feral" is such a great song. I like that the main riff is like a somber take on the Led Zeppelin Custard Pie riff. Plus it has a pretty memorable chorus. I just wish it didn't have to be that stripped down. Takes a bit out of it.

Idle Hands - Don't Waste Your Time

This holds up pretty well. They're effective at writing some good, catchy melodies.

Goreaphobia - Creator Chaos.

I'm fascinated by this band. It's pretty incredible the number of absolute legendary death metal musicians this band has had be a part of it. The fact they never got a full-length back in their early days is a shame that makes them a forgotten obscurity by most it seems. It took me forever to get around to listening to them because I always mix them up with other bands with gore in their name (Gorefest, Gorephilia, Lord Gore ect). Really love their primordial mix of extreme metal and quirky approach to song writing. Special band.

Savatage - Chance

This kind of stuff doesn't usually resonate with me, with the theater type of elements, but this is such a well written song.

Their early stuff is even better! There's a compilation called "Singles Collection: The London Years" that I highly recommend!

but he's primarily a music fan and knows exactly what kind of interesting and unreleased stuff people want in a box set. Lavish presentation, a ton of riff tapes/demos/rough mixes, seven live shows and a whole bunch of other stuff plus a wealth of recollections by and interviews with the people behind the biggest selling metal album in history, what's not to like?

Well, I can't argue with that. The NWOBHM compilation Metal Blade put out (that he was involved with) is AWESOME. I wish they'd done a Volume 2.

Helloween - Gambling With The Devil (This took a bit to sink in, but it's very good! As Long As I Fall and Fallen To Pieces (no relation to the Faith No More song of the same title!) are standout tracks!)
Savage - Loose N' Lethal (CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!! And one of the best album covers EVER).
Witch Cross - Fit for Fight (GREAT!!!!! Night Flight to Tokyo & Rocking the Night Away are two of my favorite songs now!)
Accept - Russian Roulette (GREAT!!! "AIMING HIGH!! We All Stand Together!")
ZZ Top -Tres Hombres (Great!)

The nine-year-old in me wants me to work my way through Manowar's discography again. I'm currently only near the ending of "Into Glory Ride", so a long (and, at times, dark) march lies ahead. I think I'll counterbalance all those nude calves with some Yes and Steve Howe solo to curb the temptation of brandishing the old plastic sword again. Or the air battle axe.

Yeah I've heard their early 70s works like Sticky Fingers and Exile. Got to go back further for sure.

St. Vincent - Live in the Dream

A slow searing number... bleeding with atmosphere.

Worship - Whispering Gloom

I was just waiting for the shorter, colder days to play this again. An iconoclastic, mysterious listen. Full of dread.

Children - Hard Times Hangin' at the End of the World

Great molten rock guitar tone, even better riffs.

Bethlehem - Veiled Irreligion

Pitch-black doom metal with plenty of heavy riffs getting launched into several directions. Should give this a proper spin again at one point.

Symphony X - Reign in Madness

This whole album was them at their most straightforward, but you can't argue with the megaheavy riffing and Russell's charisma. Just a great fun time.

Converge and Chelsea Wolfe - Blood Moon

This is so cool. Converge fit the spectral post-metal vibe really well and having Chelsea Wolfe in there brings life.

One of my favourite Stones albums, from my least favourite Stones era.

Start me Up is a great song if you can block it's overkill and popularity out of your mind, Hang Fire, Slave, Little T&A, Neighbours - all great songs and great change in direction.
And Ronnie Wood, what a legend
