This took many hours, but hopefully some good discoveries and band additions can come of it.
A list of bands on the site which mention a release (sometimes only a recording) taking place under a significantly different name in the bio/additional notes section, that aren't on the site yet. If any can be removed (verified not officially released, or not metal) just make a post about it and I'll delete the link.
This list is linked to the first post of the thread. The bands here aren't part of the main alphabetized list.

NIGHTMARE AWAITS -
Sleep through all the night
My sweetest children
Sleep so soft and sound
You will be the stars of quiet darkness
sleep my pretty ones
Sons and daughters into round,
Innocent souls, you’ll be proud

Mist grow thick in bleak December
I give my life to set you free
Sleeping blend destroy the thunder
Let the sunshine on their dreams

Blackened sky upon the embers
I sacrifice my life to you
A mother’s love destroys the thunder
Lets the sun shine onto you.

Sleep through all the night
My sweetest children
Sleep so soft and sound
You will be the stars of quiet darkness
sleep my pretty ones.

DANCING MEMORIES -
Where are you children
light of my dreams?
Where are you husband,
Lost in your sleep?
Does the wind sing
Upon your graves?
Are you in a land
where You’ll never be slaves?

You’re dancing inside my belief
This world is wrecked into the seed,
Dancing since death hath thy freed
No more myself can I deceive

Are we all equal
or was it a dream?
Blood under smiles and
Masks covered greed.
Shall I be always damned to starvation
Or worse to their lusts and their obligation?

You’re dancing inside my belief
This world is wrecked into the seed
Dancing now death hath thou freed
No more myself can I deceive

Shall I be always damned to starvation
Or worse to their lusts and their obligation?

SPLEEN -
Night falls softly in the place where I lie
Covers me with an old lullaby
I mince my pride with gracious songs of love
I soothe my strives with pleasant harmonies,
Elysium Choir

Night falls softly in the place where I lie,
Covers me with an old lullaby
I step on the terrace that looks upon my dreams
I hear your voice calling from the trees,
Elysium Choir

Why return to ashes
I seek for sleep melancholy

So thy freedom crashes
Through empty rooms of endless dreams

Death is endless silence
Seek for peace melancholy

Let me be thy guidance
Let me bear no more the spleen

Dawn came closer on the sun tainted bars,
You faded softly in my love burning scars.
And still your voice beneath the painted sky
Calls my name and still I wish to die,
Elysium Choir

HOPELESS FLIGHT -
Awake in the cold
of my endless pain,
rushing through the most tasteless days
fleeing through the forest.
Among hopes and endless fears,
heaven never felt so near,
as the wind went through my hair
like in the day of our first kiss,
dawn of love.

I ran through the strives
of my being a woman,
with no shield for her but love,
fleeing in the shadow.
I could not choose for other
than the sake of being a mother,
as the wind went through my hair
like when they buried you, alive
in my heart.

Hopeless flight
through lands of sorrow,
freedom raging in my eyes.
Hopeless fight
for peace tomorrow
when our souls will reunite.

I came to a halt
at the gates of the king,
fallen to a storm of arrows.
Had I died before,
I wouldn’t be beaten and sore
not have borne your absence more,
not a childless hopeless flaw,
not their childless hopeless whore.

On the same theme (bands with significant name changes) I added two early releases to Paradise Jade (https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Pa ... 3540330719) a couple of years ago, when they played under their previous name T.N.T. Thinking about it, perhaps there should really be a separate entry for T.N.T. under the site rules?

Yes - since the names aren't at all similar, they should have their own page if they play metal. Do you have samples, or a 'zine review? If so, feel free to submit them, and I can just merge those releases from the Paradise Jade page so that they don't have to be added again (if they sound metal). Thanks!

(thanks for the links, GraveWish. I'll cross off Radioactive Lunch - mostly punk from the sound of it. I added the Discogs links for Depressive Vomitory by their listing above. They have a CD copy of their 2001 demo for sale there pretty inexpensively, if anyone is interested in picking it up).

I've just contacted the members of In Tha Umbra (who were in Evil Executor) via facebook. I've also sent a friend request to John Tsiakopoulos, who was in For What is Worth. Maybe he is able to provide us a sample of Volume 69's demo, as it appears like it's not such an obscure release. It even has a page on RYM: https://rateyourmusic.com/release/ep/vo ... l_the_way/

Great work, MDL. I've barely scratched the surface looking into bands from this list - though there's already been some payoff, just now getting Onyx (North Carolina, pre-Arcanum) onto the site and coming across a lot of info about them. Some may end up being fairly easy releases to track down - others likely requiring to contact former members, etc.

Hello.
So, I've just contacted John (former member of For What is Worth, later Volume 69) and Aleksander (ex-Storm, later Illuminati). Also contacted Solamnia (Knight of Snowlake)

About the Finnish band Aftershock (that would later become Sound Ogre), I've found the facebook page of the band's third formation, as Vortech. Their facebook profile reads the following:

"Vortech was founded in January 2000 by Juha Untinen and Tero Konola. The original style was decidedly more traditional heavy metal, with added electronic elements. Over the years the style would evolve into more extreme forms of metal, drawing influence from groups such as Fear Factory, The Amenta and Sonic Mayhem. The current sound can be described as Industrial Death Metal."

In fact, Juha and Tero were the only members of Sound Ogre and some of that band's unlisted releases are somewhat confused with Aftershock's releases. Based on this and on the description below, would it be possible to submit Aftershock, with the genre "heavy metal with electronic elements" or "industrial metal" and with that reference to the band's demos, or should we dig a bit more on that? Juha would eventually assume all roles on Sound Ogre and Tero would take part of Vortech, later on.

Rest in Peace's demo Soul Solitude is available on the later project Magavira's Bandcamp. I'll submit them.

Can I submit them? My only doubt is whether the two names are different enough. Although in Maniac Brain the main word is "brain" whereas in "Maniático" the main word is another, of couse.

As far as I can tell, these are two separate bands at this time because they were playing shows as Maniac Brain in 2013 while Maniático was still active and releasing material.

Heavy metal with electronic influences can really mean anything, especially that the band is referring to Fear Factory, The Amenta and Sonic Mayhem as extreme metal. Also the demo titles doesn't help convince anyone of being heavy metal demos.

Agree to disagree, but I'd say that "heavy metal w/ electronic elements" is a pretty narrowed down description of what the band played initially, specially due to the fact that their releases are confused with the later Sound Ogre's demos. Fear Factory and The Amenta are, indeed, extreme metal bands, while the reference to Sonic Mayhem has probably to do with the electronic/industrial elements of their current sound. Both Juha and Tero had a relatively dedicated career to heavy metal music and it doesn't look like they would label their earlier creations inaccuratedly.

As for the demos' titles, these are just titles that we're leading with from the information that was left. Some titles do sound more metal than others, but, judging by the band's history, the most plausible scenario is that they're just metal releases with creative titles. Most industrial influenced metal releases don't have very metallic sound titles (Godflesh, The Kovenant, Pitchshifter, etc.). At least, that's what I think about it.

Based on your logic we should probably add all those bands who had a name change because they all look legit. I actually looked into 5 or 6 of them, found samples for 2 of them, and both are far from being remotely metal. I am just saying that making guesses without listening to samples is not the way to go in regards to those bands, especially the dubious ones. This band can play Deathstars or Rammstein type of music and call it heavy metal.

Quote:

I assume you know better that musicians can label their music anything they want. This doesn't mean that they are right about it. I had someone who flooded me with emails claiming that his band plays plague metal. Even regular band submitters and moderators don't agree on the genre tag on several occasions. Heavy metal with electronic elements is extremely dubious to say the least.

It does make sense, GraveWish. I talked with KingSpooky and it was agreed that be band should be deleted, for now. I've contacted Vortech to know if they can help us to dig a little more into Aftershock before, hopefully, resubmitting them again.
Thanks for your advice and sorry for the mess!
Cheers.

"q. What did you sound like in some of these early bands like Grey Haven, Industrial Eden, and Killing Time?
a. Some of those were just reincarnations of the same band with slightly different members. It was pretty progressive heavy metal is what they typically were. But I loved to really experiment with adding the elements of classical and jazz into the music. So that's what gave it a much more progressive edge."

I've recently got some more responses from another bands:

A member of Suffer, who was earlier known as Pukus, told me that they would be looking for a copy of that Pukus' release, as the older members would probably still have one left;

Vortech replied my in answer of the Aftershock situation. It was better off having them removed from the site, as the Aftershock's release was just a 40 second cassette with a song that wasn't metal music. They told me that it was even named "tyhmä-perus-sahaus-tyhmä", which is Finnish for "silly-basic-shredding-silly" and it was done in 2 minutes. Aftershock was founded in January 2000 and the name was quickly changed to Sound Ogre in March of the same year;

Neaera replied to me in question of The Ninth Gate's demo. They told me that TNG's demo was later released in this version:
https://www.metal-archives.com/albums/N ... era/819910

According to the additional notes, these songs were "re-recorded later, under the current name". Still, I asked them if it's actually the 2004 demo that was inserted into that boxed set or if these songs were all redone later, just to make sure.

I think the additional notes of the Neaera release are referring to later versions of those songs, but that the originals are contained on disc 2. It wouldn't hurt to confirm that those had been released on CD-R in 2004 as well, but that makes the CD version a split of both bands anyway.

Hello. Neaera just confirmed me that the Disc 2 of that boxed set contains the original recordings of the demo that was produced back in 2004. I wasn't able to find that Disc anywhere to listen, though.

About Pukus, I was just sent a Google Drive file with their demo. It's pure death metal, by my ears, I guess it's okay to submit it. Should I link the Drive file to the submission notes?

Hello.
I've been talking with the person behind Shovel (later Saints of Pain). While he confirmed that there was a demo tape recorded under the name "Shovel", he told me that he doesn't have it with him anymore. It might be difficult to find something here, according to the add. notes in SOP's page: "limited to less than 50 copies & today only a couple are known to still exist. Some copies were sent out under the bands new name Saints of Pain as well."

These 3 bands are featured on a compilation tape from 1994, "Italian Devils Compilation Volume 1", which appears to contain all metal bands (of which there are 8 in total). The others are on M.A. already. If any of them have a release, there's a good chance that they could be added to the site.

https://distorsore.blogspot.com/2016/09 ... ion-1.html

Added. - Atom Lies
Spoiler: show
Location: Rome, Lazio, Italy
Track name: "Sacred Stone"
Write-up, translated to English: "a truly frontal and powerful track that could immediately hit live. Too bad for this Roman band who quickly lost their tracks."

Added. - Sudici
Spoiler: show
Location: Sesto Fiorentino (Florence), Tuscany, Italy
Track name: "Wizard of Doom"
Write-up, translated to English: "without too many pretensions but with a lot of attitude and passion, the Sudici proposed an overwhelming mixture of genres without ever losing sight of the effectiveness of their live music."
(info from Baldadeath: "As for Sudici from Sesto Fiorentino, yes, they released a demo and you can check the cover on my old FB page (I don't run it anymore because I totally lost my archived files on last february or so, so I gave up):
they recorded a demo and if you get in touch with Massimiliano Dionigi, a cool guy) he may make a rip for you")

Needs research. - Opera Omnia
Location: Pistoia, Tuscany, Italy
Track name: "Screaming"
Write-up, translated to English: "poised between Progressive and Power Metal these Tuscans seemed to want to retrace both the viaticum of the sacred monsters of the genre in the previous decade, and enrich themselves with dark contaminations, also in this case a pity due to the lack of continuity of this latest promise from our HM."

Added. - Asmodeus
Spoiler: show
Location: Saint-Petersburg, Russia
Listed genre: Black/Death Metal
Band members: Viktor (vocals, keyboards, percussion), Sascha (drums), Yegor (bass, guitars, keyboards, percussion), Veatuleek (guitars)
Discography: "Quietus" 14-song demo tape (1997)

ROCK SOLDIERS COMPILATION SERIES - BRAZILIAN METAL BANDS:
https://www.discogs.com/label/1155473-UGK-Disccos

The Rock Soldiers compilation series contains mostly (or all) metal bands from Brazil. About half of the bands featured are
on the site, but many aren't - and a lot of these compilations could also be entered in to bands' additional notes/bio section
for existing bands as well. This compilation series ran from 1998 until today. In addition to the many bands not yet on the
site that are featured on the volumes below, # 6, 10, 12, 13, 17-21, 25, and 27 + higher (if they exist) could also be searched for to find out which bands aren't yet on the site. Should anyone look into these volumes and have a list of bands not yet on the site that are featured, I can add them to this list. (this post is linked to the first post in the thread, since it will probably be another ongoing research section)

linked to on Discogs), Torment, Steria, Perdidos, Ponto Zero (CD entitled "Beleza Natural"), Seguidores do Metal, Dread Razor

Ódio Opressivo appears to have an EP out which sounds a lot like crossover. I've contacted them.

Regarding Cybil (Massachusetts), whose tape was part of mostly a thrash and death metal lot - it's been recently listed on Discogs, with genre tag 'punk'. This seller has had genres way off in the past, so not ready to write it off just yet. Band members are listed here as well. There doesn't seem to be much at all about the band online, but maybe one of the members is on Facebook, in case anyone feels like trying to get in contact or look into it further.

I think the additional notes of the Neaera release are referring to later versions of those songs, but that the originals are contained on disc 2. It wouldn't hurt to confirm that those had been released on CD-R in 2004 as well, but that makes the CD version a split of both bands anyway.

Wait a minute, if the inclusion of the demo on the box set makes it a split, would it be okay to submit The Ninth Gate based on that? If so, I'll do it when I get the time.

Yeah - I noticed a couple of days ago that you had posted about this band a while back, so let MDL know to contact you or post here if the audio is found rather than to submit Ninth Gate. If you have audio of the Ninth Gate demo that is on disc 2 of the 2020 CD set, sure - go ahead and submit whenever.

Would it be okay to use the re-recorded songs as audio samples? Every single song was re-recorded except for the outro.

Some more info found about Roar (Vineland, NJ) - activity period 1987-1991. Chris Johnston (ex-Reckless Oversight, now in Outroar NJ with Roar member Joe DiSalvo's son of the same name), Joe DiSalvo (sp?) (r.i.p.), Tony DiSalvo (sp?) (Joe's brother), Frank Hanmeyer (sp?).
