Needs research. - AfterImage (United States, Symphonic Metal/Rock)

Symphonic metal/rock band from Boise, Idaho. Must have formed during the late 90s, they last recorded activity was around 2005. They seemingly recorded a 3-track demo which they released in early 2001. I couldn't find any samples of their music but the band claimed they played "melodic, symphonic metal/rock". Apparently they were signed to a label called "Firestorm Records".

AfterImage (Demo, CD, 01/08/2001)
1. F Sharp
2. Reach
3. Running

These songs were once available on their Angelfire-hosted homepage, but they're all gone now.

Last known lineup:
- Matt Poz (Bass)
- Al Cuevas (Drums, Percussion)
- Ben Elliott (Guitars, Vocals)
- Barret Waggoner (Keyboards, Lead vocals)

Links:

- Local Band Network
- Official site @ archive.org (Looks like a total mess)

Email: [email protected] (Obviously dead but whatever)

I'd like to provide an update to this band. I know it's been a while, but I can at least say as of 2003 this band is no more. Barret now lives in Portland, Oregon with his family, and Ben still lives in Boise, Idaho and has done some of his own music as well as played with other projects in town. Not sure where Matt Poz or Al Cuevas are these days. Great bunch of guys; they just had some things happen in their personal lives that kind of stalled the band.

Thanks for the update. Any chance you have their music, and could provide it in order for them to be added to the site?

ROCK SOLDIERS COMPILATION SERIES - BRAZILIAN METAL BANDS:
https://www.discogs.com/label/1155473-UGK-Disccos

The Rock Soldiers compilation series contains mostly (or all) metal bands from Brazil. About half of the bands featured are
on the site, but many aren't - and a lot of these compilations could also be entered in to bands' additional notes/bio section
for existing bands as well. This compilation series ran from 1998 until today. In addition to the many bands not yet on the
site that are featured on the volumes below, # 6, 10, 12, 13, 17-21, 25, and 27 + higher (if they exist) could also be searched for to find out which bands aren't yet on the site. Should anyone look into these volumes and have a list of bands not yet on the site that are featured, I can add them to this list. (this post is linked to the first post in the thread, since it will probably be another ongoing research section)

Rock Soldiers Vol. 1 - https://www.discogs.com/release/1394679 ... iers-Vol-1
- Seguidores do Metal, Força de Atrito, Ignis Fatuus, Red Mosquito, Fogo de Palha, Druidas, Através do Nada, Hematocele
Funesto, Eclipse of Thunder, Menace (not the same band as on the site), Ugoski / Marivan Ugoski

Rock Soldiers Vol. 2 - https://www.discogs.com/release/1465469 ... iers-Vol-2
- Forever Lost (unsure whether or not it's the band on the site currently - probably not. Definitely not the band that they're
linked to on Discogs), Torment, Steria, Perdidos, Ponto Zero (CD entitled "Beleza Natural"), Seguidores do Metal, Dread Razor

Rock Soldiers Vol. 3 - https://www.discogs.com/release/1099588 ... iers-Vol-3
- Imortal, Monstro Lake, Mob Ape, Traumatismo, Divine Warrior

Rock Soldiers Vol. 4 - https://www.discogs.com/release/1569481 ... iers-Vol-4
- Ateria, DWE / D.W.E. (4 more songs are on volume 9)

Rock Soldiers Vol. 5 - https://www.discogs.com/release/1755668 ... iers-Vol-5
- Aphelion, Rayzon, Us Comipexe, Encore

Rock Soldiers Vol. 7 - https://www.discogs.com/release/1755936 ... iers-Vol-7
- Damnslang

Rock Soldiers Vol. 8 - https://www.discogs.com/release/1290424 ... iers-Vol-8
- Dreamland, Carnal Desire (2 more songs are on vol. 15), Nosferactu

Rock Soldiers Vol. 9 - https://www.discogs.com/release/1042351 ... iers-Vol-9
- Marcelo Rocker

Rock Soldiers Vol. 11 - https://www.discogs.com/release/9736146 ... ers-Vol-11
- Hilèia, Proteu, Unsworn (another song by this band is on vol. 15), Réus Anjos, Rayzon, Ektapang, Holus

Rock Soldiers Vol. XIV - https://www.discogs.com/release/1900284 ... ldiers-XIV
- Gungnir, Skybound, Parole, Redoma, Nú, Zerodoze, Withblood, Lucina

Rock Soldiers Vol. 15 - https://www.discogs.com/release/2018789 ... ers-Vol-15
- Ricardo Primata, BV. INC., Shifty Side, Pantufas do Alem, Kilber Dias

Rock Soldiers Vol. 16 - https://www.discogs.com/release/1759934 ... ers-Vol-16
- Wisache, Kingdom of Steel, Leaf, Id E.N, Ugoski

Rock Soldiers Vol. 22 - https://www.discogs.com/release/1834183 ... ers-Vol-22
- Prostibules, Mortágora, Soulchamber, Ágorah, Paa Tal, A Rua, Rastilho, Ato Abusivo, Amorfo, Animal Core,
Dependência Pulmonar, Fim do Mundo (not the same band that's on the site) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nH5zn5EtM9U , https://www.facebook.com/bandafimdomund ... _tn__=kC-R

Rock Soldiers Vol. 23 - https://www.discogs.com/release/1569757 ... -Volume-23
- Impuigno, Balboa's Punch, Kizilia, Glaucoma, Arma Zen, Aracnus, Ressakiados, Rolleta Rock, Pogo Zero Zero,

Rock Soldiers Vol. 24 - https://www.discogs.com/release/1352523 ... ers-Vol-24
- Marreta, Suck This Punch (name mistyped on Discogs), Enkrenka, Putos Brother's Band, Numancia, Tormento Alcoolatra,
Metal Soldier, Ódio Opressivo, Garrafa Social, Zurrapa, Astro Nautikos, Profeta do Inferno

Rock Soldiers Vol. 26 - https://www.discogs.com/release/2019446 ... ers-Vol-26
- Ricardo Primata, A Drink to Death, Hexwyfe, Anarkia, Vírus HC, Repugnados, The Undead Manz, Psycholohdo, Pancreatite Noise, Senhores Do Nada, Os the Brechts, Vítimas de Cronos, Aziagus

There are quite a few bands you can cross off this list:
The Undead Manz - blacklisted
A Drink to Death - mostly unacceptable deathcore I'd say
Ato Abusivo - alternative rock
Psycolohdo - nu metal
Eclipse of Thunder - too borderline heavy/hard rock I'd say
More I forgot about

Balboa's Punch has a 04:59 song on Spotify (and other "fully acceptable“ digital platforms) and two downloadable songs on SoundCloud, all of them with a the same cover that features their logo. If you think that's acceptable I can submit them.

On a second listen, I realized the song on their Spotify is their least metal of the three so they'll probably be considered too borderline, I'm afraid.

Unfortunately, I don't. They never professionally recorded any material, and the source of the demo is gone.

Needs research. - Venus (Cuba)

Reportedly the very first heavy metal band in Cuba. Active from 1982 to 1987, when they were forced to break up by the Cuban government for being too rebellious and going against the state.

The band reportedly recorded their live shows, and they might have also recorded a demo at some point during their existence, evidenced by the video below in this post. I was only able to find two members: Dionisio Arce Campos, who was the band's vocalist, and Humberto Manduley, who apparently wrote lyrics, but it is unknown what instruments he played.

Venus used to play a lot during its existence, they reportedly recorded "3 or 4 songs" in a "precarious manner". These tracks were aired on a radio show called El programa de Ramón. Whether these recordings were publicly released is unknown as of now.

From its ashes, Zeus was born, and they recorded an album with songs by Venus which I believe is not listed on the site.

Here's a video with two of their songs:
Spoiler: show

I was able to find these sources in Spanish, which are some of the few proofs of the band's existence online:
Dionisio (Zeus) sobre Venus, la primer banda de Metal en Cuba: «La escena metalera Nacional tiene una deuda muy grande con esta banda».

Heavy Metal en Cuba: una historia por contar

La maldición del Diony

Not much else is known, because, well, it's Cuba in the '80s, and even to this day heavy metal music is controversial and heavily controlled by the government, and so is internet access.

Genre: Melodic death metal
Location: Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
Members: Presumably same as Neaera (since Neaera never changed band members at all apart from having one live musician).
Discography: Demo 2004 (unsure if released publicly)

This is the original name of Neaera. Originally the track listing of their demo was unknown, but they re-released the whole demo as part of a limited edition version of the 2020 self titled album.

From what I have gathered from an archived version of Neaera's old site, there were multiple copies of the demo made, but it is unknown whether or not they were distributed publicly or just sent to record labels. I did notice that they mention that they were surprised by the fact that Metal Blade Records signed them, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they didn't send it to Metal Blade. I also noticed that the first song from the demo was played in multiple clubs, but I'm not sure if that means the clubs played the song as in they had a copy of the demo, or if that was just what the band played live in the club.

I don't think sound samples are necessary for now since all the songs, with the exception of the outro, were re-recorded as Neaera, most of them being on their debut album. I do plan on getting a copy of the limited edition of the self titled album though, since it wouldn't hurt to get the original songs. But it isn't super necessary. All I need is evidence to show that the demo was distributed publicly.

Archived 2004 Neaera site that mentions their history as The Ninth Gate and the demo: https://web.archive.org/web/20040619201 ... eaera.com/

Note: I think I may have tried contacting Neaera on Bandcamp, but they haven't replied. Perhaps there's a better way to contact them?

Just submitted.

Ninth Gate accepted - thanks.

Venus (Cuba) is on Baldadeath's research list as well. There is mention there of a release, "Metalizando el espacio" (1988).

Press X to doubt. The band split up in 1987 and reportedly never released or recorded an album, only some songs. By 1988 they were basically forbidden from getting together again by the government, let alone releasing any recording because they would have had to go through scrutiny.

1 - https://www.discogs.com/release/1394679 ... iers-Vol-1
- Seguidores do Metal, Força de Atrito, Ignis Fatuus, Red Mosquito, Fogo de Palha, Druidas, Através do Nada, Menace (not the same band as on the site), Ugoski / Marivan Ugoski

3 - https://www.discogs.com/release/1099588 ... iers-Vol-3

I've got Vol 24, bought it some years ago, I was the one who submitted it to Discogs.

Here's all about the artists:
Spoiler: show
Blood Corrosion, White Dragon and Atestado de Óbito were submitted by me.

Viletale, Segregatorum, Sacrifice in Blood, Exorcismo, Barril de Polvora, Anatomy Corruption were already present

Marreta is a hardcore/d-beat band, 90% sure it's not acceptable, but anyone is welcome to try and submit them, they have valid releases and social media presence.

Suck This Punch are blacklisted, they were hard rock.

Enkrenka play sort of thrash/crossover bordering a lot with hardcore and some type of hard rock. I don't know how acceptable that is, but they haven't released anything apparently and they've seemed to have disbanded or gone on a hiatus.

Puto Brother's Band play blues. Numancia play punk rock.

Tormento Alcoolatra are noisegrind/grindcore, I've researched them before and I came to the conclusion that they're not acceptable, but maybe I should give them a second chance and submit them, since I just heard a couple of songs and they sound a lot like death/grind.

Metal Soldier is basically non-existent online. They play heavy metal with programmed drums, I think it's actually a solo project, but I doubt they released anything, they just recorded some really low-quality songs.

Ódio Opressivo play thrash/crossover in a vein similar to Toxic Holocaust. Apparently they released an album, so I'm on them.

Garrafa Social play pop punk.

Sem Bandeira play hardcore.

Zurrapa play punk rock.

Astro Nautikos play pop rock.

Profeta do Inferno is another project by whoever is behind Metal Soldier. It's low-quality metal and some acoustic stuff.

Not metal. - Algorithmic Entropy (United States, Industrial metal)

Spoiler: show
From Schenectady, New York. They started out as an industrial band and later incorporated elements from metal, turning into a mix of "industrial metal, classic metal, thrash, and death metal", so it could practically be anything.

They released a demo titled Shameless Self-Promotion Demo, on October 31, 2003. It had 6 tracks, which were reportedly samples of their upcoming works. As of 2005, they were almost done recording an album seemingly titled Resistance.

Known members:
- Jim Krone (Guitars, Programming, Bass, Backing vocals)
- Richter Kesch (Programming)
- Jeremy Bossert (Sampling, Programming, Backing vocals)
- David Secor (Backing vocals, Programming)

The band had many "collaborators", amongst them: Nick Colleton, Bob "Ghangis" Khan, Ricky Angher and Tom Spence.

Needs research. - All That Matters (United States)

From Lisbon, Ohio. Formed around 2007 most likely, they possibly played metalcore. There's a band from Atlanta, Georgia, which plays pop punk under this same name, but they're clearly not these guys. I've hit a dead end very quickly while researching this band.

Demo (Possibly a CD, Released on 4/20/2007):
- Rehab
- Shotgun Collar
- Swallowed

Known members:
- Tony Buckel (Bass, Vocals)
- Ron Jackson (Drums)
- Travis "Hobbs" Calvin (Guitars, Vocals)
- Jay Penrod (Vocals)

Metallic punk (seemingly). - Almost Heroes (United States)

Spoiler: show
I found a song on the mp3.com archive and it sounds like metal-influenced pop punk.

This one is a big doubt, but still worth researching in case they could be acceptable. This band was from Cartersville, Georgia. They reportedly played "metal with some quirks" and claimed influence from Tool, Metallica and Pink Floyd. They were formed in 2001 and existed up until around 2008.

We're All Mad Here... (EP, 5/10/2004, CD)
1. Lost
2. Spark
3. New Tide
4. Glass
5. Strong
6. Neurosis

Needs research. - Alpha and Omega / All Days Have Died (United States, Metalcore)

Apparently a metalcore-ish band that existed around the early 2010s, from Chatsworth, Goergia; all members were teenagers. They recorded some songs, two of them are still on YouTube; one of them is some weird acoustic thing, the other one sounds like decent metalcore mixed with some regular heavy metal, but both recordings had a very low quality, they were probably rehearsals. No idea whether they released anything or not, but their LBN page has an entry for a CD release named The Fall of Rome. In 2011 they changed their name to All Days Have Died

Known members:

Band members: Eugenio Guarente, Romano Sarabegoli, Furio Filoseta, E. Rovandi and J. L. Taberna

According to a comment at discogs:

"This compilation was done from tapes sent by the bands so the label did not produced any of the recordings."
So it's likely a demo tape exists.

Azmodes: regarding Angelique - viewtopic.php?f=17&t=104654&p=2924093&hilit=angelique#p2924093 , information seems to be really scarce, but I hadn't previously tried to find out if there's any way that the members could be contacted or if they had been involved in other bands. Musiksammler scans provided member info:
- (self-titled demo line-up) - Stefan Lehmann (vocals), Uwe Wolfrum (guitars, vocals), Dieter Ponath (bass, vocals), Roland Lodes (drums).
- (1995 line-up) - Stefan Lehmann, Uwe Wolfrum, Dieter Ponath, Rainer Drey ( https://www.facebook.com/rainer.drey?co ... NzY0Nzg%3D ) - have sent a message.

No members found on the site (there are a couple listings for Stefan Lehmann, but I doubt it is the same artist).

Needs research. - Trauma
Location: Honduras
Genre: Thrash Metal
- haven't looked through their Facebook page much at all. They could have a release that's easy to find. Just leaving the link here for anyone that wants to do some more research. Feel free to add if there's enough information to do so. They are apparently one of the earliest metal bands in Honduras.
https://www.facebook.com/TRAUMAh-120628401389754/

Added. - Vicious Circle
Spoiler: show
Genre: Heavy/Thrash Metal
Location: Buffalo, New York, US
Band member: Joey Tell
Discography: Demo 1993
Heavy Metal Rarities (full download): https://heavymetalrarities.com/forum/vi ... hp?t=11518
Song on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmF1Wxs2OJI
- It's metal enough, but could use verification of the release, and to confirm the format/distribution info.
Band member Joe/Joey Tell could probably be contacted here:

The band recorded a 2-tracks demo in 1993, including "Jauría" and "La noche".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iciz0IDN-M
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTXZc8kqymM

http://metalhonduras.blogspot.com/2009/ ... -demo.html
According to this blog, the demo was aired on radio (at least two stations), which is confirmed by the comments at YouTube videos (some people state they had cassette recordings taken from the radio) and by somethig the vocalist says when introducing one of the songs in this bootleg recording:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JO6XD_hx0tY
Quality of this one is quite good for being Honduras in the early 90s, but I haven't found any evidence the band used it as an official release.

There's another single song recorded in 1995, "Viajero de la humanidad" and its status is unknown.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tg3DvlT26Yo

Their supposed 2006 demo is likely a compilation of all their studio recordings after being posted at MySpace, not a brand new one.

It wasn't quite like that. This wasn't the end of Venus yet
Venus was reactivated in october1988.
While the group was inactive "El Muelle" (guitar) and Hector (drums) started working with other bands, so Frank Marticorena takes the position of drums, while Ulises decides to take full control of the guitars, forming a quartet.
They thought about changing the name to come out as a new band and unnoticed, but they realized they had to continue what they had already started because VENUS meant a lot in the national Rock/Metal movement and they needed to bring it back to its place, besides, why hide when there are already other bands playing in public?
The decision was taken and they started again.
The band concentrated on creating new songs, (although they had already been working on this before the split), with Ulises mainly responsible for ideas, as Humberto Manduley, due to personal problems, did not continue with the band (from 1982 to 1985, Humberto Manduley collaborated on some pieces of the repertoire (Amenaza nuclear, Pershing, Del metal más duro, Los enemigos del mundo, Después, Lobos solitarios), although they also had other well remembered pieces such as Desconfianza and Apocalipsis. They starred in the documentary Ojo de agua (1988, EICTV.)
The line-up of the band changed from time to time, as "Diony" would leave and return for various reasons, making it very unstable, and the group often had to look for replacements who never became part of the band.
In the meantime, they continued to participate in radio shows, recording some of their new songs in Cuban TV studios thanks to acquaintances and touring in various venues that they managed themselves.
On one occasion, Ulises decides to add a keyboard to the band to enhance the songs and brings in keyboardist Barbaro Cuervo (who officially joins the band), which caused discontent among the other band members. In early 1990, the band became increasingly "hot" due to divergences and contradictions, which led to "Skippy" and "Diony" leaving the band to form another band with a more aggressive metal character, leaving Ulysses in charge. They were replaced by Jorge Luis Barba (bass) and Tomaides Cobas (voice).
The group remained active, but not as before. Besides, the departure of the last two members had an impact on the band's image, they identified themselves with the audience in such a way that Fans no longer perceived VENUS the same way.
On the other hand, they no longer participated in radio broadcasts or recorded new songs in any studio, they only gave occasional performances and had to leave the rehearsal site at Casa de la Cultura de la Habana Vieja to move back to Frank's house.
In mid-1993, Ulises decides to disband the band.

That's good info, although a tiny bit doubtful; Zeus was already formed in 1988, and Diony had already joined them by then, and stayed with Zeus until 1991 when he went to prison. Skippy (Roberto Armada) isn't mentioned anywhere in the band's history. Would you be able to cite a source on all of this?

Zygmunt has vast knowledge in NWOBHM and metal from Cuba. After looking at a lot of information on his NWOBHM page and the meticulous and detailed reports put in to help correct and add information to this site, he's only ever provided factual information that checks out, and it's been greatly appreciated.

Hi, thanx for mentioning me... I wish I could help but I am in delicate health moment; As long as I can't recover from brain hemorrhage and lost of 60% of my sight, I think I can't do much: I was trying to fix errors and omissions in the countless japanese band pages but it's really annoying to work with just one eye only at the moment

These 3 bands are featured on a compilation tape from 1994, "Italian Devils Compilation Volume 1", which appears to contain all metal bands (of which there are 8 in total). The others are on M.A. already. If any of them have a release, there's a good chance that they could be added to the site.

Needs research. - Atom Lies
Location: Rome, Lazio, Italy
Track name: "Sacred Stone"
Write-up, translated to English: "a truly frontal and powerful track that could immediately hit live. Too bad for this Roman band who quickly lost their tracks."

Needs research. - Sudici
Location: Sesto Fiorentino (Florence), Tuscany, Italy
Track name: "Wizard of Doom"
Write-up, translated to English: "without too many pretensions but with a lot of attitude and passion, the Sudici proposed an overwhelming mixture of genres without ever losing sight of the effectiveness of their live music."

Needs research. - Opera Omnia
Location: Pistoia, Tuscany, Italy
Track name: "Screaming"
Write-up, translated to English: "poised between Progressive and Power Metal these Tuscans seemed to want to retrace both the viaticum of the sacred monsters of the genre in the previous decade, and enrich themselves with dark contaminations, also in this case a pity due to the lack of continuity of this latest promise from our HM."

Added. - Asmodeus / Асмодеус
Location: Saint-Petersburg, Russia
Listed genre: Black/Death Metal
Band members: Viktor (vocals, keyboards, percussion), Sascha (drums), Yegor (bass, guitars, keyboards, percussion), Veatuleek (guitars)
Discography: "Quietus" 14-song demo tape (1997)
Discogs: https://www.discogs.com/release/2092435 ... us-Quietus

As for Sudici from Sesto Fiorentino, yes, they released a demo and you can check the cover on my old FB page (I don't run it anymore because I totally lost my archived files on last february or so, so I gave up):
they recorded a demo and if you get in touch with Massimiliano Dionigi, a cool guy) he may make a rip for you:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/7364550 ... 0792414209

There are other bands mentioned who released demos not yet listed, expecially from the town of Florence - I really don't care about that group I created since long time and I don't know if you need to be accepted before surfing it.

Anyway, there is another band from my hometown Prato which need to be found:

Needs research. - Truth Zone
Location: Vaiano, Italy
- the first heavy metal band in the province to release a dempo tape with 4 songs. They were composed by Marco Pulidori on bass guitar (Jazz Jazz on FB) and Andrea Lastrucci on guitar (he was a schoolmate): Me and ne of my best friend had the original demo but we both lost it. I met the guitarist around summer 2019 and he told me he still has the original copy and the mp3 files but when I wrote back to him, he never replied.
Also the bass player promised me to send sooner or later the demo tape (I still remember the price: 4000 Lire, back in 1991) but he never did.

See if you are luckier than me: maybe Edoardo Faggi from Dream Void and Hellwrath should have a copy of Truth Zone demo as last time I saw him he told me so
