Needs research. - Mortal Viruz
Location: Germany
Listed genre: Death Metal (presumably)
Band members: No. (drums), Olli (guitar), Matt (vocals), Jan (bass)
Discography: Abigothismania (demo, Apr. 1998, unknown tracklist) and Sphere of Influence (demo, Oct. 1998, tracklist "Six Feet Deep", "Witchcraft" and "Syphilis")

This comes from the Archive's page for Spawn. The proof part is taken care of; see this Facebook post from 2016 selling off old copies of the Sphere of Influence demo. I don't have samples, but I assume that they still play death metal on these old demos. I asked on Facebook if they still had any copies of the demos left, but they haven't posted since 2020, so I don't know if there will be a response.

MDL, I just moved all of the bands from that last post, along with others that the info is sourced from old drafts into the list above. This is accessible from the first post in the thread (see 'unsubmitted band drafts', 3rd section from the bottom). We're low on space in the main list, and just the other day I had to move the L's into that second list. Considering that drafts could just be made-up by someone (I'm sure that some are legit), and a lot of these there is nothing known except for an artist linked to their name by an unfamiliar user, even post-google search, they might or might not have recorded anything or have played metal, it's probably not worth crowding up the main list that contains a lot of bands that are missing just one small piece of information with alleged bands that there is virtually nothing of substance to go on. Also, having them listed separately can give moderators a place to see these draft bands in all one place, go through the list and take a look at what the draft contains for additional information if they want to.

No problem. By the way, I've still been adding bands to this list as new ones are discovered:
viewtopic.php?p=3005546#p3005546

Another idea I had for this thread, if anyone has time to put into this, would be to check for possible deleted draft entries of bands on the research lists for more information.

Added. - Dragon Lore
Spoiler: show
Location: Canada
Genre: Symphonic Black/Death Metal(?)

This artist is attached to the band https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/ ... eau/760341

I was able to find a post in a Canadian webzine from 1998 that talks a bit about this band. Not sure if this is enough information to submit them, but it Voir.ca is a webzine dedicated to Canadian culture, such as music and cinema, so, I'd say that whatever is mentioned here might make sense. Here's the original text and the translated version:

(Christine Fortier)

------

My first comment about the musical style of Dragon Lore raised a hoot of protest. “Nonnnn! We don't do black metal. We have also found a more accurate description to describe our genre: Nintendo music”, comments the guitarist and main composer of the formation, Jean-Charles Desjardins. Nintendo?!! “Yes, because of the type of melodies and atmospheres, inspired by stories, like in the games,” he continues. “A friend who never listens to death metal told me that she thought she was in a Quest – an adventure game for computers – when she heard the demo called Dragon Lore”, adds bassist Sylvie Riendeau. Add to that the epic and fantastic stories of singer Sébastien Walker, and you get a whole new genre: epic Nintendo… And it's true that once the comparison is well in mind, it's full of common sense.
But, Dragon Lore is more than a matter of style. This is a young group from Montreal that has been waiting, since its founding in 1996, for the right moment to make itself known to lovers of metal, death, atmospheric European music and, why not, black metal. “We wanted to take our time before giving shows in Montreal. To be more comfortable on stage, but also to acquire maturity, ”explains the bassist, who claims to actually feel in a group of guys. Guitarist Frédéric St-Sauveur and drummer Olivier Précourt complete the line-up. June 20, at Café Chaos. (Christine Fortier)

Added. - With Death Comes Despair (United States, Blackened Death Metal)

Spoiler: show
A band from Virginia, probably Richmond. Formed by former members of a hardcore/metalcore band that existed during the late '90s called Forefront, they played a sort of blackened death metal and seemingly recorded a 15-minute demo with some 4 or 5 songs, probably around the early 2000s. At some point they had their music on mp3.com, but there's nothing other than their name in the mp3.com Skeleton Archive on archive.org, since their page hasn't been archived.

I was able to find their recordings uploaded to Soundcloud by one of the band's members, and I'm currently trying to contact any of them to get any potential information about the release itself, if it was ever released to begin with. All research was fruitless and there seems to be no remnants or information of the band anywhere, other than that Soundcloud link from which I got all the information.

Vomiturition (Desecrator)- I've contacted them through their bandcamp page, which seems quite recent, let's see if we have an answer;

Rising Dream/Arises (Valhalla) - same as above;

King Nothing (Crimson Tide) same.

MDL, that's great.

Starting with the post about With Death Comes Despair - I don't have access to the desktop that I usually use for the next week, so it's a little more difficult to do certain things on here. I'll catch this thread up with the right formatting, bands added to the list in a week.

A list of bands on the site which mention a release (sometimes only a recording) taking place under a significantly different name in the bio/additional notes section, that aren't on the site yet. If any can be removed (verified not officially released, or not metal) just make a post about it and I'll delete the link.
This list is linked to the first post of the thread, under the main research list sections.

Full demo rip is here. I would welcome a second opinion though, because it definitely sounds more punk than anything else.

Spooky, what's the story with Mind Snare? Last year you added the full discography/tracklist for two demos under their two previous names, Satan’ Slaughter and Chemioterapy. Neither one is listed here in the research thread. Are they both non-metal, or are they just oversights that need to be here?

Location: Russia
Genre: Unknown

Listed here: https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/ ... eva/746199

The band was apparently submitted earlier on,based on the information I've got from a duplicate page of Valeria. It is not blacklisted, so, there's a chance that they could make the cut, based on nowadays' releases' standards.

I'll be able to check it out on Monday. On vacation at the moment, and I can't really get a good listen or download easily on my outdated cell phone. If you want you could submit it, though, and someone else might get to it sooner.

MetalCuresHeadaches: I checked out Visible Minority, and agree that they sound mostly punk. Going to cross them off the list. Thanks for finding the audio.

Needs research. - Treatment
Location: Finland
Genre: Thrash/Heavy Metal
Activity: ~1992~1998

It doesn't seem the band already in the archives.

Released two demos, "First Aid" in 1994 and "2" in 1995; their third one (1997) was never finished:

Need proof of physical release.

Released a demo-tape Keys of Steel in 1986. Ex-guitarist Bruno Levesque submitted this to the queue, but he didn't provide any samples or descriptions. I've asked him for actual music, but posting this here in case he never responds.

Tracklist:
Side A
1. Prélude
2. Echoes of Nightmare
3. Keys of Steel
Side B
4. On Through Your Lies
5. Screaming in the Night

The submitter sent me samples and I've restored the band.

Needs research. - Ancients Dawn
Genre: Symphonic Metal?
Location: Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Islas Canarias, Spain

Known members:
https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/Montse/158037
https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/Satur/158035
Tried to contact Satur, but he never replied, might just not speak English, no idea.

Anyway, the band apparently released a demo in 2009 called "A Dark Chronicle":
1. Night in Dunwich
2. Yule Horror
3. Asenath Waite
4. R´lyeh

No idea how or if it was actually publicly released. I also couldn't find samples.

Here's a review though, but it's not really talking about metalness if Google Translate is to be trusted:

Their MySpace is of no use:
https://myspace.com/ancientsdawn

Needs research. - Epitafio
Genre: Death Metal/Grindcore
Location: Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico

Apparently they released a 10-track demo in 1994 and the original submission I'm getting my infos from included a flyer announcing a "release show".
There's not much else to go on here aside from this youtube sample with atrocious quality:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDi_rWLuD4M

Loaction: Hamburg, Germany

Known member:

Tried to contact him with no success.

Here's a promising review of their demo, no idea if or when or how it was publicly released:

For the first song, there's a description of "having a soft start of piano and violins, progressivly implementing more instruments, until it reaches guitar riffs that are conjugated with a vocal duel between harsh and clean female vocals. Musically, this song is dominated by the harsh atmosphere created by the guitar and drums, but softened with the piano and violin passages".

In the second song, there's a reference to violins in the softer passages and "blaker" guitar riffs, which I suppose it's somehow related with black metal (that's the apparent translation by Google).

The others are riddled with ambiguous adjectives, like "consistent" or "dynamic".

Also couldn't find anything else, but I can translate the message you've sent to the musician, would you send it to me, if that's necessary?

Thanks!
