I could use that track to lull me to sleep during a bout of insomnia. Yikes.

Well

shit

Definitely better than the last two albums... I even think this is better than the autopilot-y Deceiver/Surtur. It's, at any rate, an engaging Amon Amarth album, although it also doesn't quite have that big standout song - unless repeated listens end up revealing some.

I'm unironically enjoying it so far. Heidrun is a banger tbh

I listened through this album last night, felt it was quite solid, lots of fun moments and killer riffs anyone else agree?

Yeah, it's fine. I can certainly appreciate it being one of their leaner albums and the last couple songs are pretty cool.

Yeah, it's my favorite upon a first listen. The album is better than the last one, absolutely.

Top to bottom it's all decent, much like the last few. I have been listening to AA for 20 years (whenever The Crusher was brand new) and honestly some of their slower stuff on Vs. The World and Fate of Norns bored me more than modern stuff. They march right up to the line of being cartoony and then hit you with something serious.

"Oden Owns You All" and "Find A Way Or Make One" stand out but I think they should have also included the single "Put Your Back Into The Oar" as that is still so much fun.

Oh yeah, didn't notice it wasn't there. Masters of War isn't either. Weird to release two singles and not include them on the actual album.

Masters of War was just a re-recorded song from The Crusher they put out for whatever reason.

The ad shows you walking around as a viking swinging a battle axe.

The game itself is just candy crush with a nordic theme, with mini games where you tap the enemy, swing once and then get bombarded with pay-to-win ad ons.

Kind of like, "we asked a computer to generate an Amon Amarth song, here's what happened"

Always had a hard time with this band. They have their moments in the older tracks but their energy just seems to get boring really fast.

It's AA, always fine for what it is, a popular band bringing metal to the people, recruiting for our heathen army. Saw some dude with an AA shirt earlier. Currently in Cornwall, many more metalheads to spot here than in the smelly old capital. Plenty of pagan sites as well.

Only problem with the cover is that they're wearing too much clothes but I guess Manowar battled in summer or in mild new world climate, so a comparison would be unfair

My opinion has cooled a bit after listening to it in full, but I still find it to be relatively decent. It's much better than Berserker and better than Jomsviking, but I think that's about it.

The standouts are Heidrun and the Biff feature.

Definitely the best thing they’ve done in years.

Heidrun is the worst track imo. I almost feel like Napalm leaned into them to appeal to their terrible folk metal pop nonsense and that isn’t good. Odin Owns You All and Dawn of Norsemen are the two best standout tracks to me. Saxons and Vikings is gimmicky but it’s pretty decent. Overall much better, and the drum production is pretty fantastic.

It's crazy how it took this long for Amon Amarth and Saxon to do a collab. Unfortunately it only happened when both bands are at the very bottom creatively.

Can anyone tell me what Bolt Thrower song they're ripping off with the opening to Get in the Ring? I've been listening through some Bolt Thrower albums but I can't find the exact song it reminds me of.

Biff actually sounds great here, but the song is a bit dull, overall.
And the gruff vox are too high in the mix.....dangerously close to sounding funny now. Their music just isn't heavy enough to warrant these vox any longer.

That song with two of the members from Saxon is pretty cool. Biff Byford can still sing very well in my opinion.

OK, I'm a big AA fan, but I'm not feeling this one. Seems like they took their sound and made it as barebones and simple as possible (and it's not like they were ever the most complex band to begin with). Genuinely one of my least favorite things they've done.

"Heidrun" must be the most embarrassing bullshit in metal released this year. I wonder how many people enjoying or tolerating AA would lambast "flower metal" for sappy and sugary melodies. This doesn't even have one ounce of exuberance or any kind of flair; kindergarten-level stuff, minus the fun one may associate with those innocent times when looking back all nostalgic or something.

Saw Saxon open for Priest two or three years ago and not only did they blow Priest away, but Biff sounded remarkably awesome for someone who's been doing this for so long. He hasn't lost a step.

Heidrun's got that dumb catchy charm to it that makes it all worth it if that's your jam. Beyond that, much of this album's appeal - outside of a few good tracks - is it's neither as lethargic as Jomsviking nor as shit as Berserker.

That being said, this is very much what the band meant when they said that making albums is very much a necessary evil in touring. They at least put together a few songs that they can safely add to the tour that'll be fun.

Very boring album. I turned it off halfway through the third song. Then I went back and listened to the first two mins of the next few tracks. So generic, almost put me to sleep. The only reason I find myself thoroughly confused about this is I remember reading a recent quote from AA where they said that it was "the most death metal album we've ever done" or something very similar. What?!

I'm surprised. AA is one of those bands I don't expect anything decent anymore, but this album is the best they've done in a long time and makes my top 10 list for the year. Granted, it's sort of plain, but it's got several catchy songs and is overall memorable.

Biff Byford's appearance on "Saxons and Vikings" is better than the whole new Saxon album, I'll give AA that.

I actually like the Avenger the most funnily enough. That’s peak AA for me. Legend of a Banished Man, Bleed for the Ancient Gods, the Last With Pagan Blood, God his Son and Holy Whore… gawd they were so much better when they weren’t trying to appeal to a broader audience.
