In the Far East of the USSR as a whole, in the old days there was a group of interesting teams, from most of which, it seems, nothing remains. For example, people say, there was a band 'Rovers' in Khabarovsk, who played what would now be called "Viking metal" (in the USSR in 1985!) and existed until the '88. Of course, I did not find anything, although there were definitely records according to the testimonies.

In any case, if I come across anything else of note, I'll post it here.

Thanks for finding those links, GraveWish. If you or anyone else thinks they're worth submitting, feel free to do so. I won't bother adding them to the list since there's no research needed from here, just whether or not their music qualifies.

Appreciate the additional information on Trylika from Lithuania, Slon. If any of the bands that I posted in here are metal and have a valid release, they can be submitted.

Needs research. - Sunki Vasara
Location: Lithuania
Listed genre: Hard Rock / Heavy Metal
Discography: "Keistas Metas" Reel-to-Reel 1988

This band doesn't sound bad at all, but I don't know if they can be metal anough. The first song taken from the original recording 1988 definitively is. The second one, recorded in 1996... well, also may be ok but it belongs to Jis and their tape album "Tyla": don't know if there's some connection with Sunki Vasara. On Algirdas Ratkelis' youtube channel there are several other bands uploaded, including 13 (Trylika), Laikas, his solo album titled "Riba" (1989, there's the image of the tape with tracklist: it sounds a sort of experimental doom or whatever)

A link for Algirdas Ratkelis's "Riba" album and the follow up made in 1997 is here but I think we need to register to listen to it:

Spoiler: show
Accidentally resubmitted a band again. I thought I would have another opportunity to edit some information or ask to provide information before pressing to submit.

So the band I resubmitted again its debut EP streamed on YouTube, but the official release is this Friday. I was hoping it could still be accepted.

EDIT: my issue was addressed privately. Thanks to the moderator who contacted me.

- Wrong thread. Issue apparently already dealt with.

I would say that sounds much more like an early example of the so-called "War Metal" (raw black thrash, in this case) to me, than death/thrash.

I want to say right away that their album from 2011 is, alas, dull. I have all their early demo tapes and they sound a much heavier.

Closest equivalent to their original style - is Сirith Ungol with their 1979 Demo.

Their second album was released on vinyl:

If isn't predominantly heavy metal, so give me time to get their third and last album.
(additional info from Baldadeath) -

Needs research. - Dissident (also known as Диссидент)
Location: Russia
Genre: Heavy/Power Metal
- recorded a 12-song demo in 20??, and they aren't the band listed on M.A. Only info available is here, along with a full download:
https://heavymetalrarities.com/forum/vi ... 28#p223128
(note that the song titles listed are rough translations from handwritten Russian language. The last song is a cover of Metallica "Sad But True").

Update:
New info was found. These songs are from 2002 (the last from '03), and are downloadable at their official site. There is no cover art to qualify it as a digital release, but through using a translator in some parts of their site, they refer to a demo - hopefully a physical copy existed. I'll post this here, so feel free to look further into it and submit if you're able to.
http://dissidentband.narod.ru/
http://music.lib.ru/d/dissident/

Their bass player was: https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/ ... #ui-tabs-1

https://www.realrocks.ru/dissident/

The bassist got in connect in yesteryear, and confirmed that the band no longer exists.

It's pretty obvious, that they broke up back in 2003.

The demos were distributed on regular сd-r, obviously only in a few copies, I think.

SUMMER 2000

It cannot be said that the Dissident group has a particularly outstanding history. Plus, it's very short. Everything happened at the cottage. Traditionally, the company had a guitar. Under some circumstances, two previously warring parties formed one big one, and there were two guitars.
In fact, three, but the third had practically no effect on the creation of the group. It's just that two "musicians" liked to play "Grob" (Гражданская оборона) together...

WINTER 2001

We decided to gather at the base in Moscow, and at the same time to grab "able" acquaintances. Ton (Tuchin Nikita) acted as the "knowing one", and the "musicians" were represented by Sergey Rudomanov and Denis Sovkov.

Long suffered with the drummer. All members of the group took turns replacing each other in the place of the drummer ... until Gingerbread (Pavel Gingerbread) appeared.

He had (and still has) a musical education. True, not at all in the class of "drums and percussion". On the contrary... So
and started playing. The rehearsal base at that time was the RK "Adlibitum", so they rehearsed in it until they decided that "it's time for a concert". The situation "it's time for a concert" lasted for several months, until, having gathered strength-
Me guys didn't take the demo to the R-club. By the way, about the demo. This demo was recorded in two sessions (in winter and summer) at TEF-studio at the Variety and Jazz School. Special thanks to Max and Jean (sound engineers) for
pleasant cooperation. So, then, they took the demo to the R-club, and there they say: "Well, what - play!" And they did play! And, in my opinion, not entirely bad, even "very good" ...

WINTER 2002.

And now such events (concerts) are held regularly. What else? They changed the rehearsal base. So far, it has not been named in any way, but if it is called somehow, we will inform about it...

February 2002

There are several serious proposals (Rock Festival in "DK Gorbunova", joint concerts with the bands "Time Out", "Spleen", "Picnic"). More information about all concerts, articles about the band and so on. You can find it in other sections of the site.

March 2002

The rehearsal base called itself "Genesis" and continues to develop actively. Now it is also a recording studio with which the band is going to start cooperation. They gave several Demo-recordings to M. Kozyrev, that from "Nashe Radio". But unsuccessfully...

November 2002

Solo guitarist Nikita Tuchin (Ton) leaves the group, Dmitry Borodastov (Demon) takes his place, plus the group accepts Dmitry Kurakin (Kurych), who plays melodic bass, into their team
and sometimes helps with rhythm guitar. A section was also created on the site http://www.realmusic.ru, which contains information about the band.

Nice, Antioch. I just realized that one of the Missouri members was wrongly listed on the Canadian band's page on M.A., so have corrected it. Yes, pretty likely those are the same two songs, and definitely the same band considering the other ties.

About Dissident - yes, I figured they broke up long ago. It's amazing their site is still in tact with the songs still downloadable. The question is, if anyone can speak with them, if their demo was released physically 20 years ago (just need a little bit more detail about the CD-R's, if that's what format they came out on - if 10 or more were released, and just to close friends and labels, or given out or sold? It gets difficult to research this sometimes, but often former members can help to fill in those gaps in information. Providing a simple screenshot of the member mentioning it along with a submission is often enough that they can be added. Sadly, most submitters don't like to do that kind of research, and it's a big reason why the mountainous list of bands for potential addition continues to grow at the pace that it does.)

From the whole context, I think they recorded a few copies of the homemade CDs as a kind of promo to give to rock club and radio representatives (in hope of getting them interested), but it doesn't look like they actually distributed them, their entire "official" release limited to the internet.

Add.

Just now I noticed that the site says that their last concert will be November 1, 2003.

Okay. That's the idea that I got as well from their bio. It would be great to confirm it with one of their members, though. They're a very good band, especially for the time that they were around. When it's absolutely clear that they didn't have a release, we can cross them off the list.

- Thanks. I appreciate that you're checking into this band. I've made this clear several other times before, but any band that I post about in here (and I think a few other people feel the same way about their posts and initial findings that they add in here as well), you're welcome to complete the research and submit them to the site. The way I see it we're not in competition here, just on the same side as people that use a shared database of information, and progress (accuracy/completeness for our own interests and uses and those of others) could be better made by working together, gathering a little piece and bringing it to the "table", and someone else might be able to add or find something from there.

These two, if I remember, were once brought to the site, but were skipped because they were not metal:

Spoiler: show
https://youtu.be/rveGAOWcURM?list=PLLTL-ZgyyKtZRXdk21JHJIvvM8kkvGktl Metallist
https://youtu.be/vXx3l0AZXrw?list=PLLTL ... vM8kkvGktl Трек / Trek

Therefore, since it is not a metal, it makes no sense to consider them, but let them be here (So that other participants would not try to add them again by mistake).

(edit: Added band names to the post so that they'd come up in search function. Both are blacklisted.)

From Malta

Note: it's virtually impossible to get even some basic information about the bands listed below

Needs research. - Strat Kast (aka Stratkast)
Location: Malta
Listed genre: Heavy Metal
Discography: "Heavy Metal Explosion" Demo 198x, a possible split 7" with Jenny Borg

(later changed name to Stratkast Desaster). Active in the very early 80's. With Joe Mizzi who played in a lot of band in Malta (B3, Eternal Journey) as well as in Germany (High'n'Dry, Ruscut) before going on a solo career and recording 3 CD which are virtually impossible to find except for some photos of the covers

https://imgur.com/GRGOWMD
https://imgur.com/5X6LEQ7
https://imgur.com/MLp044i
https://imgur.com/qw27Es0
https://imgur.com/z9gcFYW

Needs research. - Valdacry
Location: Malta
Listed genre: Heavy Metal / Hard Rock
Discography: "To Break the Ice" Demo 198x

Formerly known as Triton (late 70s?) then Overdose. Later some members founded Stratakast

https://imgur.com/PwrRynT
https://imgur.com/Kb4yONx

According to my data, there was also Acid (1981-1994) who released a 10-tracks tape in 1994 and had two songs (Electric Lady, Rock City Limits) on "Watching The Music" Compilation CD 1992 + two video appearances (Rock you all, Shout it) at Mill-Garax/TVM Program Video in late 80's. But I don't know if they are properly metal or hard rock.

https://imgur.com/jH9jHDe
https://imgur.com/UwJce4G
https://imgur.com/KwsdKbC
https://imgur.com/DZ2fQFG

And there was also Nightwing who appeared on the "Eruption" Compilation CD in 1995:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqcj9hA ... OB&index=4

And other bands such as Exorcist, Kraken, Ivory Cross, Epycure, Orbus Vitae, Centaur, Coven, Cry, Dark Medallion, Dark Sanctuary, Dilapitated (there is a live at Domus Zebbug recorded in 1993), Entract, Fatal Aggression, Hellequin, In Memoriam (pre-Norm Rejection), Insanity (with a Demo 1995), Lithomancy (from 1990), Lords of Misrule, Mortuary (1988-1991), Mystic Pearl, Necrofist (with at least 1 rehearsal track recorded in 1991), Necrosis, Nightwing, Obscurity, Overdose, Segregation, Sphinx (from 1983), Substraction, Subverts (with a demo with 2 songs, "Break the chains" "Theatre of the absurd" recorded in 1989), Tamarisk, Thera
and possibly others... but the few information (just photos: every attempt to get more info faded into nothingness) which were available on FB seem to have been removed or the group closed to external people.

Recently is doing a project called Saviour Rose), Charles Cardwell (guitars, lead vocals - have sent a message on FB. Ron's twin brother.) Additional keys by Ron Newton on one song.

Discography: What is listed on the channel is "Молитва атеиста" ("Molitva ateista") album, 1988.
YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KM4AtA-U36U
(note: this was blacklisted in 2019 for being hard rock, but it sounds metal enough to me. If it isn't a question of valid release and only music, additional opinions are requested)

(both added to the list)

As for Маркиза I found this interesting post. It seems it says "Through the pages of the magazine "Worker".
Cassette inserts.": it could be the same situation as for Adem (Ukraine), where you could find the tape artwork of their two releases inside some rock magazines and cut them to make a proper cover

https://vk.com/wall-37521370_104550

Anyway, here you can listen to her early recordings:

http://metalrus.ru/groups/50/post-view/23202

On this VK hroup it seems there are many other tape covers published in old soviet/early russian magazines with the same procedure: cut and make your own cover:
Need to check them all

Thanks for that information. Have just removed the blacklisting, because I think it would be a good idea to give this a thorough listen and for a consensus to be drawn from a few listeners. They can be submitted if you want to do so. The YouTube link has what I believe to be a passable heavy metal/hard rock album, if it is indeed part of their discography.

Needs research. - Гулливер (Gulliver)
Location: USSR (Moscow)
Genre: Pop Rock (early), Melodic Heavy Metal, Prog Rock, Hard Rock (mid), Pop Rock (later)
Discography: https://gruppasssr.ru/G/gulliverdisk.html + released one more album, Гнездо Наркоманов, in 1986 (i have it and this is also boring pop rock)

https://heavymetalrarities.com/forum/vi ... 12#p240312

Another band that has drained its potential. Theirs especially the 2nd, and also 3rd record, if you like bands like early Saxon, and Apocalypse from London then you will like these. But then they started to play dull pop rock, maybe they decided to earn some extra money from the commercial sound... I don't know the exact details. Ultimately, somewhere towards the end of 1986, the group ceased to exist.

Needs research. - Урфин Джюс
Location: USSR (Sverdlovsk)
Genre: Prog Rock
Discography: https://www.discogs.com/ru/artist/13307 ... 1%8E%D1%81

This is a somewhat atypical example as it is basically the same dish as Rush. However, there is a clear flirtation with heavy metal on the first album (Sir Lord Baltimore / Judas Priest style), so I'll leave that up to you.
