Yes, the band you linked is indeed Mike Masser's band. I'm currently listening to them and they sound a bit borderline, so I'm thinking of whether I should submit them or not.

Feel free to throw them into the queue. Borderline enough to give it a shot.

This artist was in 4 bands not yet listed on the site that are described on his Facebook page as being of the heavy, progressive, or power metal genres (update: 3 left to research). Might be worth getting in contact to find out if any had releases. (If getting in contact, please ask if Condor Cruz has split up, as it seems very likely to be the case).

They seem to have released a Demo-CD in 1999:
https://www.musik-sammler.de/release/cr ... cd-348966/
Reviewed in German here (December 2000):
https://www.truemetal.org/wargods/122000.htm#creanna

90% sure it was released as CD, but needing the definite evidence.

(Paganius1) - I found their old homepage with lineup info + bio:
https://web.archive.org/web/20020602002 ... ontakt.htm
https://web.archive.org/web/20020611093 ... e/band.htm

In the bio under "August-Dezember 2000" it says:
"After many problems we finally released our Demo-CD."

It's not much, but it's all I can get from their website. Apparently their songs used to be on mp3.de, but good luck finding that.

This is good to submit. VR seems adequate; 3 owners on m-s.de, a review and the band announcing the release.

As I mentioned at the beginning of that post, Hereafter and most of those bands from the US were originally active during the early-mid 2000s, Hereafter around 2004. My list could probably use some better formatting.
https://web.archive.org/web/20041012045 ... shows.html

It would seem as if the name of the band, location and even the age of its members could coincide with that old Hereafter, but in their media there is no mention of the band having existed back in the early 2000s, so there's a fat chance they are not the same band. This Hereafter, in any case, doesn't sound too metal IMO, but I haven't fully listened to their album so perhaps someone might want to try adding it.

Yeah, I read that bit about mid/late 2000s, but thought it was still worth a shot.

But doesn't seem to be this band, because according to your link they are called "Hearafter", not "Hereafter".

Similarly, "Hosss" also has only 2 "s" in your link.

Doesn't lead me anywhere new though...

Damn, I never realized. I had created these drafts years ago while researching at like 4 AM, probably sleep-deprived, so it makes sense I made these mistakes. I'll fix them.

Here's also a link to Hoss' archived website: https://web.archive.org/web/20050131070 ... oss69.com/

It's worth a shot if I can get my hands on their songs off that album. It is for sale on eBay, for a rather hefty price for a CD, though.

There's one recording by the band and they seemed to play something very similar to Mötley Crüe. Perhaps this is much too borderline, but I'd like to see if I can get more samples in order to actually rule them out.

Many thanks for your help Paganius.

They released a demo tape in 1996 titled "Kinaoly": some songs are available on the soundcloud link above. I talked with the guitarist Maminirina Raben but he didn't provide any other information. Also known as Cherokee, Cherokez or many other variations. Formed in 1995, possibly released more stuff.

This is good to submit, actually. Go ahead.

Unfortunately there are no info at all.... even the band name may vary from Cherokees to Cheroks to Cherokes and more.... I tried to contact the main band member but I never got any reply except for a mere "yes, one day I will add more". No chances to get any info on the several malgasy groups on FB as they are made by youngsters who don't even know what a tape is/was: the only photos of tapes circulating on such several groups were mainly shared by me :D . Even the tracklist and release year is unknown.... somewhere between 1994-1996 even if the most credited version cites them as formed in 1995 and released the tape in 1996, but there is another version which dates them back to a few years earlier (btw: the only 2 references ever found). Once again, Madagascar is one of the most mysterious and impossible to cover countries for MA. There are A LOT of metal bands which were active since mid 80's and released demos and tapes.... nothing is shared and known.

They apparently didn't last long, releasing a single demo in 1992. People in the comments claim it was circulating.

Needs research. - Chaindrive (United States)

From Salem, Utah. They seemingly played power/progressive metal or something around those lines given they used 7-string guitars and 5-string basses, naming Kyuss, Dream Theater and Metallica as influences, and given their mp3.com tags. The band was formed in 2002 and went on hold in 2004, not before recording a demo with 3 tracks: "Rise-Up", "Living in the Past", and "The Monster in Me".

Members:
- Jasen Munson (Bass, 2002-2004)
- Chris Miller (Guitars, 2002-2004)
- Rob Adamson (Vocals, 2002-2004)
- Scott Kiester (Drums, 2002-2003)

Archived site: https://web.archive.org/web/20040208211 ... eband.com/
mp3.com archive: http://mp3-2003.computer-legacy.com/art ... _nyne.html

Needs research. - Perfect Disorder (United States)

From Utah. Played mostly covers, but also wrote songs with a "classic '80s metal style". Formed in 2003 by ex-members of a band called Marshall Law. The band was working on an album of original songs, which was supposed to be out in summer 2004. 4 demo songs were recorded in January 2004, but they were just covers.

Members:
Dave Penrod (Bass & Vocals, 2003-?)
Mike Pyper (Keyboards, 2003-?)
Rob Adamson (Vocals, Acoustic guitars, 2003-?)
Jimmy Redmond (Drums, 2004-?) (Also in Tempered Steel)
Kris Liu (Lead guitars, 2004-?)

Justin Thompson (Drums, 2003-?)
Dave Emery (Lead guitars & Vocals, 2003-?)

Archived site: https://web.archive.org/web/20040210201 ... splash.htm

Needs research. - 4 Thirteen (United States)

From Utah, possibly from Salt Lake City. While the genre they played is unclear, it was apparently '80s-style metal. The band recorded at least 8 songs, titled "A New Beginning", "In the Bottle", "The Middle of Sin", "Get Lucky", "Standing on the Edge", "Live It Till I Die", "Into the Sun" and "What I Never Had". They also opened for Skid Row in 2004. The last known activity of the band dates from late 2005.

Members:
Alan Parry (Bass, Backing vocals)
Taylor Thomas (Drums, Percussion)
Chris Miller (Lead guitars, Backing vocals)
Jesse Brooks (Rhythm guitars, Vocals)

Archived site: https://web.archive.org/web/20050204081 ... /index.htm
Last.fm: https://www.last.fm/music/4+Thirteen

Needs research. - Chris Miller (United States)

Solo project based in Salem, Utah. Released a CD titled Low & Behold which was available for purchase online. Three tracks were available on mp3.com back in the day, including "Subconscious Minds", "Stinger" and "Piece", the latter two having been recovered and uploaded to YouTube by me already. "Stinger" is a solid heavy metal track, "Piece" is just shred. The metalness of the entire album is probably doubtful, but I have no more info or samples from it.

mp3.com Archive: http://mp3-2003.computer-legacy.com/art ... iller.html

Needs research. - Chaindrive (United States)

Metal band from Peoria, Illinois/Davenport, Iowa, formed in the fall of 2003. They released a self-titled album in 2004 which could be purchased by contacting the band. Might have also released a demo CD. I was able to recover a pre-mastering track titled "Pompeii", but it's just a 90-second-long intro with breakdowns, so it doesn't tell me much.

Possible tracklist to their album:
1. Physics 101
2. En Frides
3. Poser
4. Protest
5. Teratogon
6. Draw the Line
7. Senceless
8. Deuce Ex Machina
9. Burn It
10. Trip to Nowhere
11. Footsteps
12. Violence
13. Coherence Theory
14. Daydream
15. Criticize

Members:
Brad Dix (Bass)
Jarret Witmer (Drums, Guitars)
Doug Neumann (Guitars)
Nick Witmer (Vocals)

FYI, the HTML table is now -name-wise- mostly complete and populated with links to the respective posts. I'm currently at the E's when it comes to filling in the details and also still need to add most of the country-based lists. Getting there. Let me know if you find any issues, errors or have requests (nope, it's not going to be editable). I do have to say it's pretty nice to handle this way; the database foundation of it has already proven useful in quickly displaying stuff that might benefit from a Discogs search, for instance. Kudos to everyone involved for helping make such a massive list that I had to create an SQL database for it. :-D (there are currently 2,418 entries in it, and as I said I have yet to add the bulk links that contain dozens or even hundreds of bands at a time)

The idea is for the table to eventually replace the gargantuan, character-limit-breaking lists in the OP and other posts completely. I am already keeping it up to date with new posts in this thread.

The new band list looks great. Just wondered if the bands from the NWOBHM, Bay Area California, Cuba, and Baldadeath research lists will also be added to it? Some of the bands on the Balda list appear both on that list and in the main one, but the bands in the 3 other areas are exclusive to those lists, and were separated by location because some share members or other ties are present, and new information about one could be useful for another. Even just a link to that section by location name would be great. Would also be cool if the bands on the 'did a recording or release under significantly different name' were linked to the research thread post. Really excellent job on that!

Yeah, I'm in the process of adding those lists as well.

By the way, if you or anyone else is wondering why it says KingSpooky under "User" for so many bands, it's because I've set that as the default value for the field, since it usually is you. :) That will be adjusted as I fill in the details, if needed.

EDIT: Also there will no doubt be some duplicates, since I am importing some of the lists in bulk. Will have a look for those as well.

Haha, awesome. It might be a good time to get the preferences of users who post/posted bands in here on whether or not they'd be okay with another user finishing the research, and submitting it themselves (people might have a little bit more motivation to do further research if they get credit). Could be a checkmarked field, or their username written in a certain color.
(Fine with people submitting bands that I post here.)

BuriedUnborn, G One, PaganiusI, Azmodes, MDL, Baldadeath, MetalCuresHeadaches, slon1936, GraveWish, Quorthallis, Airzez, Auselesspileofflesh, cmg92, BlackFlag, Nintenthemetalhead, Zygmunt, Joecubbie, Voice_of_Steel, Nostalgikk, what would be your preference on this? (Some users that have posted bands I think are inactive now: Halloween, Witcher, Lord_Sauron)

Nothing known beside this photo and the music style

I found the first two songs from the demo-tape. One is an intro/ambient/acoustic track, the other is a weird kind of metal, but metal nonetheless. Still, I think we need more samples here.

Some more updates for the HTML list:

  • Now with sorting capability (yeah, I know the alternating row shading isn't preserved correctly for non-default sorting, it's on my to-do list); this works for all columns except Name, where it works mostly, but for some reason it messes up a few dozen entries randomly. Still trying to figure out why. For now, to restore default sorting by Name you can just refresh the page.
  • I've imported some of the bigger lists, so now there's 4000+ entries. Post-import cleanup to be done, ex. a lot of the entries from that Californian list are probably already on the site. It's easier to just import it all and then crossreference it with some SQL magic with the MA db later.
  • The date the band was first posted about is now included (obviously this won't accurately reflect stuff that was added through subsequent edits).
  • Some minor cosmetic stuff (lemme know if it looks good to you or if you have any suggestions)

I certainly don't mind if anyone works on and submits "my" bands. And yeah, I could add a colouring scheme for users whose bands are automatically fair game. I think that's the case for almost everyone, though?

Avalanche (Gbr) can be removed. This will be a much more effective list. I wonder if we should make it more easy to find on the first post for people that don't frequent this thread?

Azmodes, Hidden Forbidden can be added back. Sorry - some new information made their inclusion questionable, so it will be better to wait for samples. The good news is that now more is known.

I think that most of the users are fine with other people submitting bands that they post about here, but recall BuriedUnborn taking issue with it once. Maybe best to verify with everyone, as I recall having to delete a band on that occasion so that credit could be given to the original poster (though when re-submitted it underwent further scrutiny, and didn't end up on the site in the end). The post I made on the 24th should cover everyone that should be checked with, as there wasn't response to it here other than from you. G One, MDL, Baldadeath, and Zygmunt I recall having said that it's fine. Not sure about anyone else.

Regarding Evil (Arg), I got in contact with one of the members and he mentioned the band's 1995 demo wasn't really publicly distributed with other people, but it was sent to radio stations as well as given to the Mad House magazine, which wrote a review of the demo.

Is this enough proof to submit the band?

Sounds like a non-public promo only, so nope.

To me "whoever does the research adds the band". I don't post here as often as the others, though.

To add to the discussion:

If someone does the entire research for one of the bands I've mentioned (such as those bands I've mentioned on my long list only by name), they should feel free to submit it. I'll probably take issue if it's a band I've spent hours and much effort researching, since it's feel like someone stole my hard work and kept all the credit, although sometimes they might just have done the research themselves.

Regarding that one band I took issue with, once; it was SDT, I had researched them for they were from my town, imagine I only heard of them because someone told me in person, and I ended up setting out on a quest of contacting a ton of people (even IRL) just to get enough for a submission, but I was never able to find any proof of release: I knew a cassette existed so I decided to add it to Discogs, then someone found it, and submitted the band based on the information available on Discogs, which was ironically the same information I had provided previously, which got the band rejected for a lack of proof, so obviously I saw an inconsistency there and I was annoyed by it, specially given that the information I have on the band took me years to get by talking to rather uncooperative people. I'd likely not complain about it again nowadays, though.

In any case, all we can really do is have a mutual agreement between all users not to submit someone else's research. I think the default should be to not submit someone's research unless they give other users permission to do so, and we just kinda have to keep our word and hope everyone else keeps theirs.

With Death Comes Life can be removed from the list. I was sent two songs from their only CD, and they're basically just breakdowns with dissonance, I don't see it being acceptable. Anyone can try to submit it but I'm 99% certain it'll get blacklisted. The songs are on YouTube.

Rejected because of the ambiguous release. It looks like a promo-only sampler, tbh.

I noticed that this was actually accepted a year ago: https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Co ... 3540504295 Had any additional details come to light?

About Co-Factor, I don't recall all details from 16 months ago (must have forgotten to cross off the list or didn't realize it was on there), but taking a look at it, their ReverbNation page was found since the original post, which has several songs and this mention of their release: https://imgur.com/a/p2ZMVcN
One of guitarist Mike Sica's other bands, Cypruss, put out a tape with a bare-bones presentation which was also an official demo.

Cool, another one to remove from the list, then.
