Blue Steel. Metal? The discogs linked says metal, but this is listed on HMR and sounds more like Hard Rock to me.

Thanks for finding some of those tapes on Discogs so quickly. Listed genres on that site, unless very familiar with the person inputting the information and their historical accuracy with genre identification, don't usually mean too much. It can provide a rough estimate of what you might expect to find by listening, but are sometimes 'shot-in-the-dark' guesses that are way off the mark.
One resource that might come in handy that you may or may not be aware of already for older demo bands, where there is a lot of readable material that doesn't come up in Google searches, is the fanzine section at The Corroseum:
https://thecorroseum.org/fanzines/index.php
They've conveniently made all of the uploaded content band-searchable. Depending on how detailed and reliable some demo reviews are in those in cases where the music itself can't be located, a determination can sometimes be made on if they should be added to the site or removed from the research list/played a music style outside of what is deemed acceptable metal on the site. Recommendation for articles in a language unfamiliar to you, as there are a lot not in English: save text as a photo file (.jpg or similar), submit the photo to an image-to-text program (several free ones are out there and can be found through Google), then copy and paste the text into Google Translate or similar.

---
Links for the last several posts found about French bands are added to the original post. Also found that 2 members of these bands are on the site for other bands.

Got in touch with someone on Discogs and they provided me with the album 'Garden Of Relief'. I'll upload it later for all to hear, but it sounds like Heavy Metal/Progressive/Hard Rock with emphasis on Rock. Not sure this is overwhelmingly metal.

Using Spooky's advice and looking through some of those zines.

Cristal: Reviewed, but nothing really describing the genre.

Silken: Described as FM Hard Rock similar to Van Halen.
https://thecorroseum.org/fanzines/mephi ... hp#pid=114
"SILKEN noud delivers through its riffs and "LONELY NIGHT", a very melodic Hard FM, full of breaks with a few synths to note, a passage still reminiscent of Eddy VAN HALEN's guitar). These little guys would be able to compete with FINE, a pretty good French FM group. Lots of musical passages for this song which is quite long, but we never tire of it.
By "FEVER", second and last song, is still as good, but has a too high sound (the previous song). By comparing the music of several FM groups, we understand that there are two kinds of groups of this style first of all, those which are more Hard FM; the sound of the rhythm guitar having a good catchy sound and then, the melodic FM; the synths taking the place of rhythm. SILKEN happens to be in the second case. Either you love be Hard FM or you throw it away. But if you like it, the demo is at your disposal...
Sound Good but sharp."

Marauder: Described as Hard Rock, Old Judas Priest, Def Leppard.
https://thecorroseum.org/fanzines/lame_ ... php#pid=30
"Far from fat and saturated sounds, fast riffs, here is MY-
worth listening to, despite some riffs already heard. An effort made on originality and melodies (in fact the most important). Note, that of many demos (I mean the choirs), is in part regulated by the canon choruses (very pleasant!). We feel that they want it and that they are full of ideas. Their style A mosaic of various influences (MAIDEN, U2, MOORE,...) which gives a varied Hard rock but not necessarily FM.
MARAUDER with his old-time hard rock. It's a real return to basics, hello old JUDAS, LEPPARD and others..."

Asylum: The Yellow Tape asylum for sure, logo is in this zine. Compare themselves to ADX, Rush, Metallica, Bon Jovi musically.
https://thecorroseum.org/fanzines/alliage-05.php#pid=6
"We have a bit of the same approach to music as ADX, but the result is completely different."
"I could tell you that we are influenced by RUSH, BON JOVI, METALLICA"

Finest: Two ballads on a four track demo. Compared to ZZ Top and Bon Jovi.
https://thecorroseum.org/fanzines/troub ... php#pid=18
"FINEST is still calmer because of the four tracks of the demo, there are two ballads. Despite my pronounced taste for things that go quickly, I find that Wild boar (?).
these two pieces are the most successful thanks to a lot of feeling and melody. As for "Mr. Jack", it's a bit reminiscent of BON JOVI without keyboards and "Sweet Mary" looks a lot like ZZ TOP."

Silent Shades: Described as Hard FM (rock?).
https://thecorroseum.org/fanzines/metal ... php#pid=46
"The music, for its part, works in Hard FM with a maximum of keyboards"

Bounty Hunter: Now this one *might* not be the same band, but the cassette looks fairly amateur so maybe they reworked their logo? Described as Southern Rock in the vein of Lynard Skynard.
"BOUNTY HUNTER is one of the rare French groups to make Southern Rock like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Molly Hatchet."
https://thecorroseum.org/fanzines/mephi ... php#pid=25

Blue Way: Described as Hard melodic FM (rock?)
"the hard melodic music played by BLUE WAY is simple, very simple, but it succeeds in seducing precisely by its simplicity."
https://thecorroseum.org/fanzines/alliage-07.php#pid=43
https://thecorroseum.org/fanzines/overd ... php#pid=16

Incers: Is actually "Vincers". Described as melodic hard and glam.
https://thecorroseum.org/fanzines/lame_ ... php#pid=26
"offers quality melodic Hard music ("We need girls"), sometimes tinged with Glam (for the choirs: "Live in the stars", " We need girls") with keyboards on the intros ("Live in the stars", or even "Hold on"). Their singer has a good voice, and the solos are more than adequate. Only false note: "Hold on", slow(to make the girls dance) boring"

Very good work, G.O.Malice! Just going to remove these ones now (including Bounty Hunter - probably is that southern rock band in the collection photo) from the original post and the list of French bands that were to add to the list, as it hasn't been updated yet - will make it an easier process and get rid of some clutter.

Thank you! I know some bands have been added to the archive based off zine reviews. That Asylum tape sounds promising, but not 100%. Would that qualify?

I see an article for Abyss there. Is that what you mean, instead of Asylum?
Abyss interview and description is for this band: https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Abyss/88870 from the members mentioned, so the yellow tape with the identical logo is another one of their releases. I've added it to the additional notes of their page. Thank you for finding/verifying that information. One Abyss band in that collection (the one on Discogs) is definitely not on the site yet and just awaits audio or a review.

(edit) French bands have been removed from the 2 posts as needed, only one pending that conclusive information was brought forward on being Blue Steel because I haven't had a chance to check out that HMR forum link yet. The 28 bands remaining there can be added to the research list. This includes Blue Steel currently.
I removed Marauder, since despite the Judas Priest and Iron Maiden references in the review (extremely promising), U2 was mentioned (extremely non-promising), as was Gary Moore (incredible guitarist that was Ozzy's #1 pick when starting a solo project - turned down by Moore; band not deemed metal on the site), and Def Leppard (earliest stuff is metal, but by the time this review was written they were playing fluffy radio rock). If anyone thinks it's worth keeping Marauder around anyway they could be added back, but there's some fairly unconvincing stuff said in that review about possibility for it being what would be considered metal for the site.

Unrelated to bands from France, in my opinion Bishop Garden can be removed (progressive/alternative rock) based on the YouTube link to the full album that you provided.

Needs research. - Mother Sin
Location: UK
Listed genre: Metal
Band members: Stuart Palmer (vocals), Rick Palmer (guitars), Graham Connelly (bass), Andy Wright (drums - https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/ ... ght/140303 / Andy's FB page with a picture of the tape: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... 000&type=3 )
Discography: "Mother Sin" demo (1991 on j-card, eBay listing says 1992; track listing: No Way Win/ Mother Sin/ Dirty Money/ Slave to Sex)

Back-up image 1: https://imgur.com/a/WEISWBR

Note to GodOfMalice: In some instances when audio and 'zine reviews aren't available, a description of the music from one or more dependable sources can be acceptable. On occasion this can be from a band member. It's a case-by-case basis and depends on several things, like what detail is explained about the sound, what background the person describing it has in knowledge of metal, etc. Not an ideal proof of how a band sounds, but sometimes (fairly commonly in this thread) the recordings are so rare, yet valid as far as the release goes, that it is the only way to give their submission a try. Sometimes it is enough. The more references and detailed description, the better in such cases.

These are the ones that can be removed: Incers, Blue Way, Bounty Hunter, Silent Shades, Finest, Abyss (the one without a Discogs listing), Marauder, Silken. (noticed that Blue Steel weren't added - must have been deemed not metal from the HMR link, as suspected and determined by you, G.O.M.)

Thanks.

Looks like the album/demo might be considered as "valid release" according to new digital rules? It's on bandcamp. Would you like to submit it yourself?

Nothing known beside these few notes and the music style

(Spooky) "Virtual Psychosis" demo '97 and "LSD 25" album '98. Band members at above link.

As far as I understand, the only thing lacking is samples?
If so, here you go: http://lsd-lida.narod.ru/pages_w/music.htm
Sounds metal enough. They're from Lida, a small town in Belarus.
Can be submitted.

Tornado (Belarus) seem to have been discussed a few times and looks like it was blacklisted at some point (?)

I don't know, to me it sounds very much metal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdGXg56dXCU
The release is on discogs: https://www.discogs.com/release/24282044-Tornado-Apeman

Is it not a valid release or something else is wrong here?

Obscurity Rising: Deathcore/Djent/Hardcore/Electronic. Probably not acceptable, though surprisingly borderline.

One Nation Flag: Straight up just Heavy Metal. Surprised this isn't on the site already. Will submit.

Openyourmind: Metal, but all the singles share artwork.

Orital: Death metal, it was released physically; confirmed by the band. Will submit.

Our Own Demise: Mentions an EP, but I don't see it. Will message.

Our Souls Evolve: Djent/Hardcore

Outsider: Has art for what looks like a single. Messaging for details.

Overcome the Juggernaut: With such a unique name you'd expect an easy search. Dead facebook and not much in my searches.

Oxydus: Recorded an Demo in 2010, but the youtube link is dead.
